Kent beat holders Gloucestershire in Blast thriller as Somerset see off Surrey

Crawley smashed four maximums in a rapid 37 from 17 balls while Daniel Bell-Drummond top-scored for hosts Kent with 60 in an imposing total of 208 for three in Canterbury.
It proved too much for Gloucestershire but only just as late hitting by Ben Charlesworth (38) revived their hopes before two for 22 by Tom Rogers made sure the champions got their South Group campaign under way with a defeat after being restricted to 204 for seven.

Somerset won a repeat of last year's semi-final with Surrey despite a fine innings of 92 by former England opener Jason Roy.
Roy, who last played for his country in 2023, scorched a scintillating 92, but received little support as Surrey limped to 146 for nine.
Overseas pace duo Matt Henry and Riley Meredith claimed three-wicket hauls for 2024 runners-up Somerset, who won by five wickets with 13 balls to spare after Will Smeed led the way at the top of the order with 35.
Liam Dawson had Essex in a spin to help Hampshire record a thumping 106-run victory at Ageas Bowl.
James Vince (62) was one of three Hampshire batters to pass fifty and it helped his team post a mammoth 230 for seven.
Michael Pepper struck 51 for Essex before falling to Dawson, who finished with four for 26 after recently being recalled to the England set-up.

Birmingham Bears topped North Group last year but started this season with a seven-wicket loss to Nottinghamshire in a high-scoring encounter.
Sam Hain's unbeaten 92 proved the bedrock of Bears' 226 for five, but he was outclassed at Trent Bridge by Jack Haynes.
Haynes blitzed 89 not out from 41 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes, to lead Nottinghamshire home in the final over.
A superb individual display by David Willey inspired Northamptonshire to a 13-run victory over former club Yorkshire in another run fest.
Northamptonshire captain Willey struck 54 and along with Justin Broad's 67 it helped the away side make 237 for four at Headingley.
Both James Wharton and Will Sutherland hit 58 for Yorkshire, but three for 42 for Willey made sure his new team fought back to limit the hosts to 224 for nine.
Shan Masood guided Leicestershire to a five-wicket triumph over Derbyshire with 45 not out.
Derbyshire made 170 for six, but were indebted to 70 down the order from Martin Andersson after three for 37 from Logan van Been had them reeling on 51 for five.
A mature innings from Pakistan captain Masood endured Leicestershire chased their target with minimal fuss with Pat Brown, who earned an England Lions recall last winter, smashed for 47 off his 2.4 overs.

Ronnie O'Sullivan ‘finally' confirms next career move amid plans to quit the UK

Ronnie O'Sullivan 'finally' confirms next career move amid plans to quit the UK Snooker legend Ronnie O'Sullivan has dropped another major announcement following his revelation that he planned to quit the UK for the Middle East, where he has his own academy Ronnie O'Sullivan is looking for a fresh start on and off the table (Image:) Ronnie O'Sullivan has revealed his latest venture by stepping into the world of YouTube content creation. The seven-time world snooker champion had a reduced presence over the second half of last season after smashing his cue in frustration during a round of Championship League action in January. O'Sullivan withdrew from the Masters, which he was due to defend, and numerous other events before returning for the World Championship with a new cue. ‌ Although he reached the semi-finals, O'Sullivan often appeared vexed, voicing unhappiness with his performance and equipment. He even made the bold move of having his cue's tip and ferrule changed mid-match against Zhao Xintong. ‌ After a 17-7 defeat to eventual champion Zhao, O'Sullivan divulged his intentions to spend more time in the Middle East and be selective about future tournament engagements. Now, he's pursuing a new passion beyond the baize by setting up a YouTube channel. Sharing a link to footage of his landmark 1000th professional century at the Players Championship final in 2019, O'Sullivan announced on social media: "Finally gone and got a YouTube channel... I will be uploading all sorts here from some of my favourite shots and matches to me cooking to me meeting and chatting to some interesting people. Hope you guys enjoy it!!" However, upon visiting the channel, the only clip available was one of him hitting a 147 in practice while in Saudi Arabia before the World Championship. The 1000th century break clip appeared to have been removed. One fan responded: "Subbed already. Can't wait for more content. Good luck!" Another supporter commented: "Good luck Ron, keep grafting & playing for as long as you can." A third jokingly remarked: "Ronnie O'Sullivan cooking must be Fast Food!" Following his exit from the World Championship, O'Sullivan shared his plans to leave the UK. The Essex cueman, who has an academy in Saudi Arabia, said: "I think I'm going to be moving out of the UK this year. A new life somewhere else. ‌ "I'll still try and play snooker but I don't know what the future looks like for me really. I'm moving away soon so I'll just see how it goes. There's a lot of more important things in life to worry about than a game of snooker. "For me, it's a big part of my life, but I've got to try and figure out what my future looks like, whether it's playing or not. I'll be moving away to the Middle East but we'll see how it goes. I might be back in six months, who knows?" O'Sullivan is looking to become a social media star (Image: Getty ) Article continues below O'Sullivan, who recently split from long-term partner Laila Rouass, added: 'There are going to be a few changes in my life so we'll see how that goes.' He insisted his cue issues weren't necessarily to blame for his Crucible struggles, saying: 'I don't even know if it was the cue, the ferrule or me. There were three things. I just don't even know where the white ball's going. I'm at a loss, to be honest with you. 'I don't even know what to say. Sometimes you've got to try something different, you know? It didn't feel great before so I tried to go back to the old brass ferrule.'

The Edinburgh club will face Crawley during a week-long training camp in south-east Spain to prepare for the start of season 2025/26. The friendly match will take place behind closed doors, giving McInnes his first look at players following his appointment as Hearts head coach last month. The 53-year-old is working on more new signings before the trip after Christian Borchgrevink, Alexandros Kyziridis, Elton Kabangu and Oisin McEntee all agreed deals to move to Tynecastle Park. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Hearts' first competitive match of the new campaign takes place on 12 July at Tynecastle against Neil Lennon's Dunfermline Athletic. That is the opening fixture in the Premier Sports Cup group stage, and McInnes is eager for his new-look side to be ready for business. 'Trips like these are a vital part of preparing properly for the season ahead,' he told the official Hearts website. 'The benefits the players will get from intense training sessions in that kind of heat are clear, and that is crucial for us as we look to hit the ground running when the season starts. 'It's also good for the players to spend time with each other. We've got some new faces, mine included, so for everyone to be in the one place and around each other for a whole week will be great for building relationships.' The warm-weather training will be intense for Hearts' first-team squad, with a week of double and triple sessions planned on top of gym work. Temperatures are expected to be touching 30 degrees by early July and the heat will place extra demands on players. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad New Hearts signings for season 2025/26 New recruits Borchgrevink, Kyziridis and McEntee will report to Riccarton with the rest of the squad on 20 June when Hearts' pre-season programme begins. Initial body testing and fitness work will take place at the club's training base on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Preparations will then step up once they land in Spain. McInnes has made clear that he will demand the highest standards from everyone at Hearts. Speaking last week, he outlined his feelings. 'I don't want to come in here and shout from the hip: 'We're going to do this and we're going to do that.' I just think we've got to work confidently, quietly, under the radar,' he stressed. 'We don't need to drum things up, the fans are there. They're just waiting for it. They're just waiting for something to happen, really. We just need to get their trust and I need to earn that trust. The players need to earn that. They need to know that when they turn that every week, they've got a team who are going to compete. 'We want to be brilliant every week. The Scottish league doesn't always allow that. When you're working with players, you've got to accept as a manager, you know your players aren't going to be tip-top every weekend. What they can be is committed and driven, motivated. That's the only way I work with players who are that. I'll not accept bad practice. I'll not accept lazy days. The fans need to know that when they've got a team there that represents them well. It's my intention to give them that team.' READ MORE: New contract for Hearts man as he faces a critical season

Jamie Smith in a ‘great place' to attack India in marquee Test series

Promoted to open in the Metro Bank series, Smith repaid the faith by crunching 64 off 28 deliveries – his first ODI fifty – on his home ground of the Kia Oval as England clinched a 3-0 victory in style. His barnstorming innings was all the more impressive following a duck at Sophia Gardens 48 hours earlier but Smith is prepared to tread the fine line between success and failure. That's some way to go to your first ODI fifty… 💪 Jamie Smith dominating at the top of the order 🏏@IGCom | #ENGvWI — England Cricket (@englandcricket) June 3, 2025 'There will be times when it is a bit like feast or famine,' he said. 'It's probably the nature of how I'm going to go about it. I won't be consistent by blocking or things like that to try and get a score. 'I'll always be trying to be positive and put us on the front foot regardless of if I've had a few failures or not. That's how I'll be judging myself. 'It's not a natural role. I was a little bit surprised (to be chosen to open). I guess for me it is a stepping stone. If that spot is at the top of the order, I'll happily do that.' Before last week, Smith had never opened in List A cricket before but he believes facing the new ball in ODIs represents ideal preparation for his next assignment of facing India's Jasprit Bumrah and co. 'There's an opportunity there to go and play and experience opening when the ball is still swinging and nipping around against quality bowlers – it's definitely great practice for India,' Smith said. 'The majority of my experience hasn't been great for Surrey when I opened when I was a little bit younger and a bit afraid to hit the ball. So it was nice to go out there and play with the freedom.' With Smith not in England's squad for three T20s against the Windies, he can now devote all his attention to the much-awaited five-Test India series that gets under way at Headingley on June 20. Surrey team-mate Gus Atkinson is a major doubt for the opener with a right hamstring strain he suffered in last month's win over Zimbabwe, with fellow quicks Jofra Archer and Mark Wood also on the sidelines. Atkinson was withdrawn from the ODI series squad to face the Windies but England had expected him to be fine to spearhead their fast bowling attack against India following a breakout 2024. England will announce their squad in the next few days, with Smith certain to resume wicketkeeping duties and batting down the order, meaning he does not immediately have to go up against Bumrah, the world's top-ranked Test bowler. 'Hopefully down at seven, I can watch other lads go and face him first, but it's certainly a challenge,' Smith added. 'It feels like we're close to it now, we're almost there. 'One sort of knows the magnitude of what you've got coming up but if we can try and stay in the present then it's a good time to test ourselves against the best. 'We feel in a really good place and I think everyone's really excited and in a great place to go and attack them.'
