Dodgers bring back former GM Farhan Zaidi in a special advisor role

PHOENIX — A familiar face is returning to the Dodgers' front office.
On Monday, the club brought back former general manager Farhan Zaidi in a special advisor role, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who wasn't authorized to speak publicly. In his new position, Zaidi will also assist team owner and chairman Mark Walter in the businessman's other sports interests.
Zaidi, 48, formerly served as the team's first general manager under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman from 2015 to 2018. During that time, he helped build Dodgers rosters that won four division titles and two National League pennants, the club's first since 1988; and aided in the acquisition of several unexpected stars, such as Max Muncy and Chris Taylor.
After the 2018 season, Zaidi was hired by the San Francisco Giants to become their president of baseball operations. Three years later, after the Giants won 107 games to outlast the Dodgers for the 2021 NL West championship, Zaidi was named MLB's Executive of the Year, overseeing what looked like a potential powerhouse in the making in the Bay Area.
However, the Giants never returned to the playoffs in Zaidi's tenure, going .500 or worse in each of the last three years while repeatedly missing out on several sweepstakes for superstar players (including as one of three runners-up to the Dodgers for Shohei Ohtani last winter).
After the Giants stumbled to an 80-82 record this year, missing a wild-card playoff spot by nine games, the franchise replaced Zaidi with longtime former catcher Buster Posey at the helm of its baseball operations department. Shortly after, as Zaidi told Foul Territory in December, he began discussing new job opportunities with the Dodgers and other teams. All along, a reunion with his former club seemed logical.
While the Dodgers have since filled Zaidi's void at GM with Brandon Gomes, Zaidi will take on a new role in Los Angeles now that includes closer coordination with Walter — who is also the owner of the Los Angeles Sparks, the Professional Women's Hockey League and was part of Dodger co-owner Todd Boehly's purchase of Premier League soccer club Chelsea in 2022.

New York Giants wrapped up OTAs with trip to bowling alley

New York Giants wrapped up OTAs with trip to bowling alley Took the boys bowling 🎳 — New York Giants (@Giants) June 13, 2025 The New York Giants wrapped up organized team activities (OTAs) on Friday in a Tom Coughlin-like way: Head coach Brian Daboll took the team bowling. As the Giants walked in, Russell Wilson quipped, "About to bowl a 200." The video, shared by the Giants on social media, continues, showing the players walking into the bowling alley, followed by a few shots down the lane. Then, Jaxson Dart says, "Theo (Johnson) is the worst bowler on the team." "That's crazy, I'm the best bowler on my team," Johnson replied. Then Dart is standing behind Johnson as he lines up for his next shot. "You see, he said he's nervous," Dart says. "You got it, big dawg. You can do it." Johnson bowled, leaving one pin standing. "There's a highlight," Dart said. "That's a good highlight." "That's not the worst on the team, though," Johnson laughed. Rookie Abdul Carter also showed up near the end of the video. "Today is actually not my best day," he said. "My teammates are doing well, though. You know I'm a team-first guy here, so I'm having a great time with my teammates, man. I'm loving it." And that, right there, is what it's all about—having a great time together, building camaraderie away from the field, creating connections, and building the bond between players so they can better anticipate what the others will do on the field. Daboll took a page out of the Tom Coughlin Book of Coaching for this one, understanding that what he's been doing hasn't been working and something has to change. With the group of players they have in 2025, there's no question the Giants are in a rebuilding year. And when you're starting over, camaraderie helps lay the foundation of what's to come. This Giants' team may be far better than any of us anticipate. They're enjoying their time together, they have some really talented players to work with, and the youth they have coming up provides hope for the future. Whether it all comes together this fall or not remains to be seen, but things are definitely moving in the right direction.

Shohei Ohtani's 2 homers, Clayton Kershaw's 7 sharp innings propel Dodgers past Giants 11-5

LOS ANGELES — Shohei Ohtani hit two homers and Clayton Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 11-5 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night. Ohtani led off with his 24th homer, ending a 10-game homer drought — his longest since joining the Dodgers last season. The three-time MVP added another solo shot in the sixth for his third multi-homer game of the season and the 22nd of his career. The 37-year-old Kershaw (2-0) gave a vintage performance in the sixth and best start of his 18th major league season. The lefty needed just 81 pitches to finish seven innings. Casey Schmitt hit a grand slam in his second straight game for San Francisco, connecting off Dodgers utilityman Kiké Hernández during the Giants' five-run ninth inning. Hernández recorded his first career strikeout when he caught Christian Koss looking, but he also allowed five runs on three hits and three walks while Los Angeles attempted to save its bullpen. Anthony Banda had to come on to get the final out. Mookie Betts had a two-run double during a five-run second inning for the Dodgers, who rebounded after the Giants pulled even with Los Angeles atop the NL West standings Friday night with a 6-2 victory . Landen Roupp (4-5) gave up six runs on four hits and five walks while failing to escape the second inning in the shortest start of his career. Teoscar Hernández added a two-run homer in the sixth and Miguel Rojas homered in the eighth. After Roupp walked two leading off the second, Andy Pages and Michael Conforto drove them in. San Francisco intentionally walked Ohtani to load the bases for Betts, who blasted a double. Ohtani came home on Will Smith's flyout. San Francisco put just one ball in play against Kershaw hit harder than 100 mph: Heliot Ramos' double-play groundout in the first. LA's Dustin May (3-4, 4.46 ERA) faces Kyle Harrison (1-1, 4.56) in the series finale Sunday. ___ AP MLB:
