Portsmouth fire official discusses large warehouse fire
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – 10 On Your Side Keagan Hughes spoke live with Joseph Teartt from the Portsmouth Fire Rescue & ES.
Portsmouth Fire and Rescue was at the scene of a large fire on Duke Street Wednesday morning. Around 9:30 a.m., they received a call for a commercial structure fire to find the building up in flames.10 On Your Side's Keagan Hughes was at the scene in the 900 block of Duke Street, where a large fire could be seen at a warehouse. Photos from the scene show heavy smoke and flames coming from a building labeled 'Windows of the World.'
While at the scene, multiple transformers on nearby power lines were blown, with over four pops heard in the area. A nearby lab, the Metropolitan Solutions, told WAVY that they now have to shut down for the rest of the day.
Fire crews in the area are asking people to stay away from the building to keep safe.
Multiple WAVY viewers reported seeing the billowing smoke from the interstate.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Bond was denied on Wednesday for a woman accused of murdering her elderly father in May. Only on 10: Woman charged with murder in Rodney Lane homicide speaks out Jennifer Mulligan, 43, appeared in a Virginia Beach court Wednesday morning for a bond appeal hearing after she was initially granted bond. Mulligan is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of her 90-year-old father, Woodard McClure. During the appeal, the defense stated that Mulligan had only recently brought her father to her home to live on hospice after the retirement home McClure was staying in shut down. The defense argued that Mulligan's relationship with her father was abusive, saying that McClure kidnapped Mulligan at the age of 6. The prosecution, however, argued that the case is 'the execution of a 90-year-old,' saying that Mulligan had been drinking prior to pointing a gun directly to her father's head before shooting him. USS Gettysburg to return to Naval Station Norfolk after near 8 month deployment
NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Sailors aboard the USS Gettysburg are returning to Naval Station Norfolk Friday after a near eight-month deployment to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operations. The crew departed in Sept. 2024 as a part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, which consisted of the USS Harry S. Truman, USS Stout and USS Jason Dunham. Public health alert issued for ground beef believed to have E. coli: FSIS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAVY) – A public health alert was issued Tuesday for ground beef products believed to have E. coli, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The products in question, 1-lb. vacuum-packed packages of 'ORGANIC RANCHER ORGANIC GROUND BEEF 85% LEAN 15% FAT' with 'Use or Freeze By 06-19-25' and 'Use or Freeze By 06-20-25' represented on the packaging, were produced on May 22 and May 23. The FSIS is urging customers not to consume the product and mentioned a recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The product, which bears the establishment number 'EST. 4027,' distributor locations in Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland and was further distributed to Whole Foods Market retail locations nationwide.
