Drunken dispute turns violent, man stabbed outside supermarket in Tawau
TAWAU: A dispute between two men believed to be under the influence of alcohol turned violent when one of them was stabbed outside a supermarket here yesterday afternoon.
The incident took place at 3.43pm after an argument broke out between the two labourers, who are known to each other.
Both were reportedly intoxicated at the time.
The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, which ended with one man stabbing the other with a sharp object.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, a 37-year-old foreigner, was arrested at 5pm at the scene.
"Checks showed that he did not possess valid identification documents to be in Malaysia," he said in a statement.
Police also seized the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon.
The suspect is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid travel documents and is being detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the same Act.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing the victim lying on the ground with serious injuries.
Several bystanders were seen surrounding him at the scene. The victim was later rushed to hospital for treatment.

Miri man loses over RM1.54 mln in latest online investment scam

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the Miri Commercial Crime Investigation Division (BSJKD) received a police report on the matter yesterday. 'The victim came across a stock investment advertisement on Google. He then clicked on a link and dealt with an individual who introduced herself as 'Susan' at 013-9236855 via WhatsApp,' he said in a press statement today. He added that the victim sunsequently made 22 separate transactions to eight different bank accounts as instructed by the suspect, amounting to over RM1.54 million. Mohd Farhan said the victim only realised he had been duped when the suspect gave various excuses as he tried to claim the returns from the investment. He said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. This marks the second major online investment scam reported in Miri within a week. It follows an earlier case involving a female civil servant in her late 30s who lost over RM1.1 million to a non-existent investment platform. Mohd Farhan advised the public to remain vigilant and not to easily trust investment advertisements that promise high returns within a short period. He urged individuals to verify the legitimacy of any investment opportunities through official channels such as Bank Negara Malaysia's Financial Consumer Alert List ( and the Securities Commission Malaysia's investor alert list ( 'If you have just made a fund transfer to a mule account or scam syndicate, contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) immediately by dialling 997,' he added. Drinking session turns deadly: Man killed in fight with colleague
KUALA LUMPUR: A 37-year-old man was killed after a fight with a colleague at a scrap metal shop off Jalan Ipoh, here yesterday. Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari said they were alerted to the fight at 11.33pm. The victim, a Malaysian, is believed to have been involved in an argument with a Myanmar national. Police found the victim shirtless while holding a parang in his left hand. "There were injuries on his right shoulder, left side of his head, neck, left chin, and a puncture wound on his shoulder," Ahmad Sukarno said in a statement today. Initial investigations found that before the incident, the victim and the suspect were believed to have been drinking alcohol together at the premises before an argument broke out. "The suspect fled after the incident and is now being hunted. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said. Conviction for murder is punishable by the death penalty or imprisonment for a term of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years. If not sentenced to death, the offender shall also be punished with not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
