Wisconsin football reportedly beat an SEC power for top FCS transfer tight end Lance Mason
Wisconsin football notched a significant recruiting win on Friday, landing Missouri State transfer tight end Lance Mason.
Mason is a major addition at this late stage in the transfer process. He's fresh off a breakout 2024 campaign that included 34 catches, 590 receiving yards, 17.4 yards per reception and six touchdowns. That yardage total was the most for any tight end at the Football Championship Subdivision level, a standing supported by ProFootballFocus listing him as the league's top receiving threat at the position.
The rising senior projects to start at tight end for the Badgers in 2025, filling a vacancy created when winter transfer addition Tanner Koziol left for Houston.
In addition to Mason's projected impact, the circumstances surrounding his commitment make it even more notable. The Badgers hosted the tight end on a visit on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, those dates immediately following his trip to Norman, Oklahoma. According to Rivals' Parker Thune, he was the Oklahoma Sooners' top transfer target at the position.
Instead, Mason pledged to the Badgers. Thune's language is notable, saying the Badgers 'stole one from OU.'
The recruiting win continues Wisconsin's impressive offseason of transfer movement. The team rebuilt its quarterback room and defensive front seven during the winter transfer window with commitments from numerous highly touted prospects.
While Mason joins the Badgers as only the No. 835 overall player in the portal and No. 42 tight end, Wisconsin beating a top SEC power for his commitment is major news. This recruiting win should be highlighted if, and likely when, he plays an integral role in the Badgers' offensive success in 2025. New coordinator Jeff Grimes' scheme should highlight the position and give the former Missouri State Tiger plenty of opportunity to excel.

Green and Hensby at 10-under 61, were good for second place. Hensby had the rougher day of the two with a pair of bogeys, but six birdies by Green kept them in contention. "I think we just both really enjoy the golf course, and the conditions are beautiful," Green said. "It's a lot of fun to play and hit the right shots required on this golf course. I felt comfortable out there." Defending champion Ernie Els of South Africa and his partner Tim Herron are tied for third at nine under alongside Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee and Australia's Brendan Jones. Tied for fifth at eight under are Australians Cameron Percy and David Bransdon, fellow Australians Stuart Appleby and Michael Wright, South Korea's K.J. Manny Machado homers again as Padres defeat Brewers 2-0
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Manny Machado homered for a second straight game and five San Diego pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout as the Padres defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 on Friday night. Machado's eighth-inning homer off Grant Anderson was his ninth of the season. It came one day after he hit his 350th career homer in a 3-2 loss at San Francisco, making him the 33rd player to reach that milestone in his age-32 season or earlier. Machado turns 33 on July 6. San Diego's other run came when Luis Arraez singled home Tyler Wade in the third. Wandy Peralta (3-0) earned the win after replacing starter Randy Vásquez and striking out Christian Yelich to strand runners on second and third in the fifth.
