Sean ‘Diddy' Combs Faces Four Additional Sexual Assault Suits as Gender-Motivated Violence Act Lookback Window Closes

Yahoo28-02-2025

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has been hit with four new lawsuits from plaintiffs alleging sexual assault, all filed under the Gender-Motivated Violence Act with a lookback window closing on March 1.
The suits, filed in New York, all detail similar allegations of sexual assault, with accusers claiming they were drugged and subsequently subjected to sex acts against their will. The GMVA was granted an amendment in 2022 that allowed survivors whose claims were previously time-barred to file a suit against their abuser during the window period of March 1, 2023 and March 1, 2025. With the Act coming to a close, more suits are expected to be filed before week's end.

The first suit against Combs comes from Aristalia Benitez, who lived in New York City in 1995 at the age of 20. A sophomore at New York University, she was employed by Peppe Jeans, a Tommy Hilfiger sister brand, and was invited by Andy Hilfiger to a party at a restaurant where Combs was present. She was seated next to Combs and was given a non-alcoholic drink, after which Combs allegedly 'forcibly groped and fondled [her] breasts, butt, and genital area under her clothes.' She claims to have been rendered unconscious and awoke in the back of a cab hours later with no recollection of how she got there. The fare had been paid, and she noticed her groin area was sore. Upon belief, the suit claims, she was 'vaginally penetrated by Defendant Combs' and his associates while unconscious.
Another plaintiff, Justin Gooch, claims that he was 16 years old in 1999 while living with his grandparents in New Jersey. In January, he visited the popular New York City club Tunnel, where he met Combs. Combs allegedly invited Gooch to one of the club bathrooms and once inside a stall, he gave him ketamine, proceeding to anally penetrate him without consent. After the incident, Combs apparently asked, 'That wasn't so bad, was it?'
Leslie Cockrell filed a third suit regarding an incident that occurred in 1999 when she was 24. She ran a scouting business in the music industry, and during that summer she went to one of Combs' parties in the Hamptons along with the artist Jay Stone, thinking it was a good networking opportunity. At the party, Combs offered her a drink and touched her as he gave her a tour of the house, which was 'packed inside and outside with naked people who were engaging in sexual activities together.' After her second drink, she began to feel lightheaded, and was guided to a lie in a room by herself. Drifting in and out of consciousness, she woke up to Combs vaginally penetrating her without consent. When she came to, she was sore and was told not to tell anyone what happened.
A fourth lawsuit was filed against Combs and VH1 by Kendra Haffoney, who worked for a designer showroom in Los Angeles in 2007. She applied to a new VH1 show 'I Want to Work for Diddy,' and was selected, moving to New York that year. One night, she was invited to an afterparty where she was invited to a backroom where Combs was with other individuals and took a drink that she believes was laced. She sat down next to Combs, who allegedly 'guided her head down to have her perform oral sex on him.' She passed out and awoke to Combs sitting at the foot of the bed, knowing she was drugged and that 'her vaginal area felt sore.' She claims that she was later invited to Combs' L.A. mansion where she was subsequently abused.
Representatives for Combs responded in a request for comment to Variety, 'No matter how many lawsuits are filed—especially by individuals who refuse to put their own names behind their claims—it won't change the fact that Mr. Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor. This lawsuit is nothing more than a collection of media headlines, stitched together with fragments from other lawsuits and baseless rumors. With the deadline for New York's Gender-Motivated Violence Act expiring tomorrow, opportunists are scrambling to file last-minute, meritless claims. We live in a world where anyone can file a lawsuit for any reason, but that does not make the claims true. Mr. Combs is confident he will prevail in court.'
The filings come shortly after a male escort sued Combs over accusations of sexual assault that allegedly occurred in 2012. Combs is currently detained at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, where he will remain until his criminal trial, slated for May 5.

Emmy experts predict Drama Series race: ‘Severance' out front, but watch out for ‘The Pitt'

As Emmy voting begins, can Severance hold onto its momentum as the Best Drama Series frontrunner, or might another show steal its thunder? Four top Emmy experts — Variety's Clayton Davis, The Hollywood Reporter's Scott Feinberg, Indiewire's Marcus Jones, Deadline's Pete Hammond — predict the race with moderator and Gold Derby editor-in-chief Debra Birnbaum in our latest slugfest (watch above). "We have to talk about Severance — that's Apple's main play," says Jones. The sci-fi series has been the category's de facto leader all season long. HBO and Max have an incredible amount of product this year, he says, including The Pitt, The White Lotus, The Last of Us, Industry, and House of the Dragon. He also declares Hulu's apocalyptic series Paradise to be "one of the big newcomers" of the year, with "an amazing performance from Sterling K. Brown." Looking beyond the frontrunners, he's "impressed" by how many voters are telling him they're watching Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV+. But what about Landman? "That's a real wild card to me because, out in the real world, everybody's watching it, but it's TBD who's watching it in the TV Academy." Hulu "There are a lot of good possibilities in the drama series category," says Hammond. The Handmaid's Tale ended its final season amid "everything going on in the world, and seemingly this show has turned into a documentary, ... Handmaid's Tale is now true life!" As for The Pitt, he thinks it's "so hard to watch" because of all the realistic medical stories, and wishes there were commercials. "I need a break [from all the blood]." Davis is already looking ahead to the Emmy ceremony, claiming, "Win-wise, I think this is Severance vs. The Pitt for the rest of the year. I think The Pitt is so Homeland Season 1 coded. I want to know how many nominations it gets before I can really cross over and say it can do it." He also creates a stir when he mentions how Pedro Pascal should drop down to supporting for The Last of Us because it's "more appropriate" after what happens to his character in Season 2. As for shows that people are actually watching "in the real world," Birnbaum singles out Matlock, with its star Kathy Bates on the cusp of being the oldest winner ever for Best Drama Actress. "It's just such a strong narrative," she says. "You have to imagine voters are going to get swept up with that." Which Emmy expert do you agree with the most? R. Kelly's Attorneys File for Immediate Release From Custody, Alleging Officials Solicited Inmate to Murder Him

R. Kelly's legal team has filed an emergency motion seeking his immediate release from federal custody to home detention, claiming that his life is in danger and accusing the government of misconduct. In Tuesday's filing, reviewed by Variety, Kelly's attorneys claim that they have explicit evidence that officials solicited an inmate to murder him while in custody at a federal penitentiary in North Carolina, where he's serving a 30-year sentence. Kelly: 'If White People Can Elect Their Felon, I Can Dance to Mine' Lifetime Finds Success With True, Sensitive Stories That Become Watercooler Sensations R. Kelly and Universal Music Must Pay Over Half-Million Dollars in Music Royalties to Victims, Judge Rules His counsel provided a sworn declaration from Mikeal Glenn Stine, a terminally ill inmate, who stated that officials offered him freedom in his final days in exchange for Kelly's murder. Stine claimed that he was told Kelly and his attorneys were planning to expose damaging information, as the filing alleges that officials violated attorney-client privilege by intercepting personal correspondence. Stine stated that officials told him he would be charged with Kelly's murder, but that evidence would be mishandled and there would be no conviction. Stine, a leader of the Aryan Brotherhood, arrived at Kelly's unit this past March, and though he was prepared to kill him, he had a change of heart and instead told Kelly that Bureau of Prisons officials directed him to carry out his murder. Kelly's counsel alleges that in June, they learned of a second member of the Aryan Brotherhood who was directed by officials to kill both Kelly and Stine. They claim that Kelly is in danger as he remains in custody with other members of the Brotherhood. 'The threat to Mr. Kelly's life continues each day that no action is taken,' reads the filing. 'More A.B. members are accumulating at his facility. More than one has already been approached about carrying out his murder. One of them will surely do what Mr. Stine has not, thereby burying the truth about what happened in this case along with Robert Kelly.' Kelly's attorney, Beau B. Brindley, is asking the judge to release him to home detention on a temporary furlough. Variety has reached out to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Chicago for comment. The singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was initially convicted of nine counts of a superseding indictment in Sept. 2021. He was charged with violating the Mann Act and racketeering that involved the sexual exploitation of children. The following June, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. In Feb. 2023, Kelly was separately sentenced to 20 years in prison for child sex crimes, with the judge ruling that all but one year would be served concurrently with his previous 30-year sentence. This past February, an appeals court upheld Kelly's racketeering and sex trafficking convictions as well as his 30-year prison sentence. The court rejected his claims that trial evidence was inadequate and that the trial judge made improper rulings. Diddy Called Her 'Crack Pipe' — Then She Suggested He Go to Rehab, Ex Testifies

Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial continues after the judge struck down the defense's motion for mistrial One of his former girlfriends says she wanted him to get help towards the end of their relationship Jane, who is testifying under a pseudonym, was in a relationship with Diddy until his arrest last yearSean "Diddy" Combs' girlfriend asked him to seek help in rehab towards the end of their relationship, she told the jury at the music mogul's trial. The witness, who is testifying under the pseudonym "Jane," elaborated in court Combs' alleged relationship with drugs as she went under cross-examination on Tuesday, June 10. Jurors heard a voice note that Combs sent to Jane around March 2023, shortly after they returned from a trip to Turks and Caicos. 'You are the crack pipe. That's my new name for you: crack pipe," he said in the voice note. "Call you CP." Combs seemed unwell towards the end of their relationship, prompting her to suggest rehab, Jane told the jury. 'I felt he was developing jaundice,' she said. 'His gums were gray, probably from drug use,' Jane continued. 'I felt that his hands were shaky probably from over-consuming alcohol.' When she suggested he go to rehab, Combs responded: 'What the hell, you think I need rehab?' This wasn't the first mention of drugs in the trial. During her testimony last week, Jane alleged Combs made her transport drugs across state lines on at least two occasions, and she was able to do so with advice from his former chief of staff Kristina Khorram. Jane has also alleged Combs often gave her drugs such as ecstasy to get her prepared for "Hotel Nights," days-long sex sessions where she was allegedly forced to engage with other men, she told the court. Combs has not been charged with any drug-related offenses. Jane's testimony rings remarkably similar to several claims by Combs' other former girlfriend, Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, the prosecution's star witness. Similar to Jane, Ventura also alleged Combs forced her to engage in sexual encounters with men, often for days on end — though in her case, they were allegedly called "Freak Offs." Combs has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution; he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
