The Best Fast Food Chicken Nuggets, Ranked & Reviewed

It's widely known that people have feelings about the best fast food chicken sandwich and fries. But I'm betting folks feel just as strongly about chicken nuggets, too. These bite-size, crispy, dunkable bites of deliciousness have comforted most of us since childhood. While I'd never turn down a fresh nug, I'd be lying if I said they're all created equal.
To find the best fast food chicken nuggets of all time, I visited seven popular chains to taste them myself. Below, you'll find my honest reviews, original photos and overall ranking. Of course, this list is totally subjective, so grain of salt…but I do consider myself a fast food connoisseur of sorts. Read on to find out my favorites. Spoiler: All of them are pretty valid for the cost.

What It Is: white meat chicken in crispy, homestyle seasoned breading
Price (8-piece): $3
At a price point this cheap, odds are you're not getting a quality bird. But hey, it's fast food—you already knew that. That said, this is probably one of the more solid options on the Burger King menu (unless you're all about breading over meat; then it's Chicken Fries for you). My nuggets were black pepper-y and freshly cooked. The breading was crisp but less so than McDonald's (more on that later). That said, there was nothing wrong with these, but nothing outstanding either.

What It Is: white meat chicken nuggets in Original Recipe breading
Price (five-piece): $4
The smell of these reminded me of rotisserie chicken, and the seasonings give rustic, like chicken soup. The nuggets were sort of a middle ground between two chicken nugget camps: traditional nuggets, made from mechanically separated chicken, and boneless wings or chicken pieces. They were considerably smaller than other boneless options on this list and more uniform in size, both nugget qualities in my book. But even though the chicken pieces were straight poultry instead of a ground mixture, they were still a bit dry and old-looking rather than juicy. This batch, in particular, was also too salty for my taste.

What It Is: breaded, fried white meat chicken
Price (four-piece): $2
I'd only ever had the spicy nuggets at Wendy's, but there's a first time for everything. The chicken was juicy and freshly fried, and the breading was tasty and evenly salted, albeit a bit thinner and less crunchy than that of McDonald's nuggets. These were coated in more of a breading than a batter. While I still prefer the hot version, these nuggets were solid (and they tasted even better with honey mustard).

What It Is: white meatboneless wings marinated in Louisiana spices and fired
Price (six-piece): $7
Popeye's is sort of in its own league, not just in terms of quality but also flavor profile (all those Louisiana spices and whatnot). I tried the chain's boneless wings, as they don't explicitly use the word 'nugget' on their menu. The chicken was very tender and succulent, and the pieces were comparatively large. The breading was very crispy and well-seasoned, although subtle in flavor compared to the hot iteration.

What It Is: tender, juicy nuggets of fried, white meat chicken
Price (six-piece): $5
If it's a proper chicken nugget you seek, McDonald's is the best option. With a thick, batter-like breading that always reminds me of savory funnel cake (if that's a thing), the nuggets are dependably crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside and evenly seasoned with notes of black pepper and McD's signature onions. As long as they're fresh, they're going to slap. Have 'em with the chain's creamy Buffalo sauce, OK?

What It Is: white meat chicken marinated in jalapeño buttermilk and coated in tortilla chip breading
Price (five-piece): $6
Yup, Taco Bell has chicken nuggets now—and they give the heavyweights a run for their money. The chicken is marinated in jalapeño buttermilk, which not only infuses the meat with plenty of flavor, but also tenderizes it. Meanwhile, the tortilla chip-based breading was crisp and tasty without being excessively spicy or overwhelming; in fact, it looked thinner than some others on the list, but packed a mighty crunch. The chicken looked natural, more like a boneless wing than a nugget, but the portion and individual, uniform size of each piece was also larger than most competitors. Try them with the new, delightfully swicy Mike's Hot Honey Diablo Dip Sauce.

What It Is: seasoned pieces ofboneless chicken breast, freshly breaded and pressure cooked in peanut oil
Price (five-piece): $3
Chick-fil-A's offering was easily the juiciest, most succulent fast food chicken nugget of all. I got them in literally ten seconds after ordering, but they still tasted and looked very fresh. The nuggets are real chicken pieces instead of mechanically separated poultry. They're poppably small (meaning they offer nugget feel with a step up in quality, in terms of meat) and inconsistently sized, but that's the game you play with chicken pieces instead of molded nuggets. The breading was mildly seasoned but not bland in the slightest, making the nuggets an easy win and a crowd-pleaser, even for first timers.

High school grad goes viral for working at his Burger King job … still wearing his graduation outfit

Proudly wearing his high school graduation medals, Mykale Baker stopped by the Burger King in Dacula, Georgia, to mark the milestone with his coworkers. He had no way of knowing that a simple visit would lead to a life-changing viral moment. Baker wasn't scheduled to work the night he received his diploma, but when he saw the crew struggling to keep up with a surge of customers, he stepped in without hesitation. It was a natural instinct for the 18-year-old who had been named manager of a Wendy's at just 17. At that moment, Maria Mendoza happened to be waiting at the Burger King drive-through window for her order. She, like Baker, was coming from commencement, which had ended at 10 p.m. Although her daughter, Daizie Chavez, had graduated from Mill Creek High School the same year as him, the two had never met, which wasn't surprising in a class of more than 700 students. From the passenger seat, Mendoza, 45, craned her neck, curious about what was happening behind the counter. Who was preparing her Whopper? 'I'm kind of nosey sometimes!' Mendoza admits in an interview with 'And that's when I saw Mykale.' Around his neck hung medals honoring his achievements in marching band — as a percussionist, he was voted 'Most Selfless Person' — and in track and field, where he competed in hurdles. 'My whole world froze,' Mendoza recalls. 'My first thought was, he's working. He's not out celebrating like the rest of the kids. My child gets to be with me after the ceremony, and he's here.' And yet Baker was smiling, his face glowing with a wide beaming expression full of warmth and pure joy. "I was so happy I graduated," Baker tells "I couldn't take my eyes off of him," Mendoza says. She says something came over her, a sudden urge she couldn't ignore. She felt compelled to start recording, quietly capturing the scene without her husband or Baker noticing. Later that night, she posted the footage on TikTok, explaining that Baker had gone straight to Burger King after his graduation ceremony and that he looked 'so proud to carry his medals.' 'This young man deserves a scholarship!!!!' Mendoza wrote. The 43-second clip touched hearts across social media, and in just four days, a GoFundMe campaign for Baker — which Mendoza created and originally aimed to raise $5,000 — brought in more than $198,000 for his education. In the fall, Baker, a car fanatic, will attend Gwinnett Technical College to study automotive mechanics. With nine siblings, he says, there's never much to spare. 'Some of the money is going to go into fixing my car and the rest is going into a trust fund for school purposes only,' Baker, who was raised by a single mom, says. Soft-spoken and humble during the interview, Baker shies away from questions that focus on him but lights up when asked about Mendoza. 'It's brought our families together,' he says. 'She's a part of my family, and I'm a part of hers now.' He adds that he and Mendoza's daughter, Daizie, are now friends. Mendoza, for her part, is more than happy to brag about Baker if he won't do it himself. She shares that Mendoza's goal was to attend college and that he had been saving for it, holding jobs in the fast food industry since he was 16. If he didn't have enough, his plan was to join the Army, which would cover the cost of his education, a testament to his determination and resolve. 'He's incredible,' Mendoza says. "A lot of kids don't think that way." After hearing about the story, Burger King and the Burger King Foundation surprised Baker at work with a $10,000 scholarship. In recognition of Mendez's act of kindness, the foundation also awarded Daizie a $10,000 scholarship to support her studies in neuroscience at Georgia State University. Baker is training to become a manager at Burger King and will be working this summer, but he's most looking forward to an upcoming trip to Disney World with a friend. Demisha Scott, Baker's mother, describes him as 'the quietest' of her children, as well as 'very loving' and dependable. 'He doesn't think, he just automatically jumps in to help,' Scott tells TODAY. 'He's a very hard worker.' Scott says one of the band directors wrote a letter praising her son for always being the first to arrive and the last to leave practice. 'He'd load the van, break down the instruments and fix things if they broke,' she says. "That is who he is." Donations continue to pour in on Baker's GoFundMe, accompanied by messages filled with praise and admiration for his work ethic "Congratulations and God Bless You, Mykale! You are an inspiration and deserve to have the brightest future, and then some. You are already a leader and a role model at your precious, young age, and this world is made so much better by your presence," one person wrote. Added another, "Your story truly inspired me & touched my heart. It takes determination & humility to work after graduation. I pray that God continue to BLESS you beyond measure. As a PHD educated Black woman, I am truly moved by your GRIT. The future is yours! Go get it." This article was originally published on

McDonald's analyst grills new stock price target on McCrispy reaction

Okay, people, so what do you think of McDonald's' McCrispy Strips? "Hey @McDonalds please stop hyping up your much delayed chicken snack wraps with your new McCrispy strips that have the texture of octopus and the flavor of a tire on a dirt road," one person said on X. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter "You'll never be @Popeyes because they beat you to it, and these were delicious. Give up now, clown." All right, all right, don't sugarcoat it. Tell us how you really McFeel. "Yes," another poster said. "One bite of this clump of hard rubber was enough for me." "to me they were awful. rubbery and not crispy at all. super chewy and no flavor :/," another person declared on Reddit. "They're spongy and soggy," yet another complained. "Never again." Okay, so we're getting a social-media vibe now. And more important, an investment firm is getting a negative buzz as well. Now, to be fair, some people had nice things to say about McCrispy Strips, especially when they're paired with the new creamy chili dip. And many customers liked MCD's use of 100% white meat. "McDonald's promised that the strips are made with 'juicy, 100% white meat' and they weren't lying," Leah Groth wrote in on April 30. "McDonald's promised that the strips are made with 'juicy, 100% white meat' and they weren't lying," Leah Groth wrote in Eat This Not That on April 30. "While the uber-popular McNugget is made from ground chicken meat and shaped into a dippable form, the McCrispy is an actual strip of whole chicken meat, putting McDonald's on the shortlist of fast-food chains that use real chicken for their tenders," she added. Groth called the McCrispy tasty and spicy without the help of a dip, but she added that the creamy chili dip "seriously elevated the taste to next-level status." McDonald's (MCD) unveiled McCrispy Strips in April, and on May 5 they became available at all participating restaurants nationwide. The move marked the first time since 2021 that the fast-food giant introduced a permanent menu item in the U.S. Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski told analysts during the first-quarter-earnings call in May that the launch of McCrispy Chicken Strips should contribute to growth. But he warned that "we remain cautious about the overall health of the consumer. Related: McDonald's CEO sounds alarm on major customer problem "We entered 2025 knowing that it would be a challenging time for the [quick-service-restaurant] industry, due to macroeconomic uncertainty and pressures weighing on the consumer. "During the first quarter, geopolitical tensions added to the economic uncertainty and dampened consumer sentiment more than we expected." While the Chicago company narrowly beat Wall Street's earnings expectations for the quarter, revenue fell short and U.S. same-store sales shrank 3.6%, the worst showing since the 8.7% tumble of Q2 2020 and the Covid pandemic lockdown. McDonald's shares are up 6.3% in 2025 and up 18% from a year ago. "The key for us now for the balance of the year is about execution," Kempczinski said. "And in an environment where there is a pressured consumer, you've got to simply outexecute your competitors. "And that means you've got to outexecute them on your value programs, you've got to outexecute them when it comes to marketing and menu innovation." Kempczinski talked about a halo benefit from the McCrispy to set up the reintroduction of the Snack Wrap, which is slated to return to McDonald's menus on July 10. But Loop Capital analyst Alton Stump wasn't so sure and downgraded McDonald's to hold from buy and cutting his price target to $315 from $346. Related: Popular chicken chain launches its version of McDonald's wraps The analyst said on June 6 that he had "growing concerns" that McDonald's' domestic comparison growth profile would not rebound as much as expected over the remainder of 2025. Customer feedback about the chicken strips has to date been predominantly negative, he said. That does not bode well ahead of McDonald's pending Snack Wrap introduction, which will include the new chicken strip, he said. Stump said he'd based his prior positive view of the shares on the company's ability to rejuvenate U.S. same-store sales via these two new products. McDonald's did not immediately respond to a request for comment. I Tried Popeyes's 3 New Chicken Wraps: Honest Review Ranking

Popeyes just added three new chicken wraps to their menu for a "limited time only." As a massive fast-food fan (and former worker), I decided to try them all and give you my honest opinion. Let's get started! This news came just days before McDonald's announced the return of their famous Snack Wraps, which will be released later in June. I genuinely can't wait to order from both restaurants and compare which ones are also unveiled a new Blueberry Lemonade drink, which can be served chilled or frozen, so you know I had to try that too. The wraps are stuffed with a chicken tender, lettuce, shredded cheese, and pickles. There are three different signature spreads to choose from: Classic, Spicy, or Honey Mustard. Each wrap is sold for $3.99, but they currently have a "bundle" deal going where you can order two wraps and a premium lemonade for $9.99 total. At some Popeyes you can also order your wrap with their Blackened Chicken (which basically just means the chicken tender is marinated in Cajun seasonings and isn't battered or breaded). This is only available via online ordering at some locations, so unfortunately I didn't have this option when I went in person in NYC. First up was their Honey Mustard Wrap, which was my least favorite of the bunch (but was still enjoyable!). Popeyes is obviously famous for its chicken, and that part didn't disappoint. It was crispy and crunchy and just really freaking good. But with only one chicken tender per wrap, the ratio felt off, and at times other items severely overshadowed the chicken. I also had a few bites with zero chicken in it. But if you're a big fan of honey mustard then you'll probably enjoy this wrap because it adds a tangy sweetness to it. However, in my opinion, Popeyes has other spreads that better pair with these specific wrap ingredients. I ordered each wrap with the same exact ingredients because I wanted to give them all a fair comparison. If you're a pickle lover like me then you'll probably be a little disappointed because I only received two pickle slices on each wrap. But if you love cheese then you'll be happy because, damn, they really loaded those suckers up (to the point where I literally had to scrape off about half of the shredded cheese because it was SO overpowering and pretty much the only ingredient I could taste). I'm glad these wraps came with lettuce though – that really helped to balance things out, and it also added an extra crunch that was different from the chicken. They accidentally gave me an extra wrap, so I decided to open that up and take a photo so you can see exactly what it looks like on the inside. Each wrap had a ton of sauce at its base, but the top half was kind of dry. I wish it was spread more evenly. Next up was the Spicy Wrap, which was my second favorite of the three. I'm a huge fan of spice, but if you're expecting any actual heat then you should probably look elsewhere because this sauce was tame (it was basically just mayo with a little hot sauce and a few spices mixed in). I do think I would have liked this wrap even more with their Blackened Chicken, but I also think Popeyes is doing themselves a disservice by not coating their tenders in the same sauces they use for their wings (like their Signature Hot Wings, Sweet 'N Spicy Wings, and Ghost Pepper Wings). Still, though, this wrap was great, and I'd order it again. Finally, we have their Classic Wrap, which was easily my favorite. The mayo spread paired so well with the crispy chicken, and when I actually got a bite with pickles it was perfect. I do think this particular wrap would have been even better without any shredded cheese. Also, I should note that Popeyes's wraps are made with tortillas that are "inspired by" their famous biscuits, but, if I'm being honest, they just tasted like regular tortillas to me. Still, this was easily the best wrap of the bunch. Popeyes also released a new Blueberry Lemonade, which you can get as a frozen drink (kinda like a slushie) or just as a chilled one with ice. I opted for the frozen version but also ordered a regular Strawberry Lemonade (which they started serving back in 2021) so I could compare the two and see how the new drink holds up. It was HOT outside, so the first few sips of each drink absolutely hit the spot. The blueberry one was sweet and tart but extremely sugary (as was expected, obviously). It somehow tasted even more sugary as it melted and turned from a slushie into a pure liquid, and I couldn't finish more than half of it without feeling gross. The Strawberry Lemonade, though, was incredible (and dangerous! Like, I could drink these all day). This one was still sweet but not as sugary. It was perfectly refreshing. If you want to try something new and can only pick one Blueberry Lemonade then I'd order the chilled version over the frozen one. However, if you're stuck between which flavor to order then my vote absolutely goes to the Strawberry Lemonade. I wish I had one in my hand right now. So, do I think all of these new menu items are worth it? Well, that depends! First of all, my mind is perpetually stuck in 1996 where the price for almost every fast-food item was, like, $1. So, to me, $3.99 for a single wrap is kind of wild (but this is the same exact price that McDonald's will be selling their Snack Wraps for later this month, so I guess it's the new standard for 2025). If you're looking for something quick that you can eat on the go then I definitely think the Classic Wrap is worth it. I'd personally order their bundle deal with two Classic Wraps and a chilled Strawberry Lemonade for under $10, and I'd also get them without shredded cheese. I think a real game-changer would be to order these Chicken Wraps without a spread so you can top them with Popeyes's Blackened Ranch or Bayou Buffalo sauces instead. If you ask me, those are the new flavors Popeyes should try experimenting with when they (hopefully) re-release their Chicken Wraps. If they do that, I'll be first in line.
