Officials identify north GA man who killed wife, girlfriend before turning gun on himself
Police in Dalton have identified three people shot and killed earlier this week.

Dalton police said 37-year-old Kevin Andrew Akins of Dalton shot and killed his wife, 35-year-old Rebeca Nicole Akins, at her apartment on Murray Avenue sometime during the early morning hours on Wednesday.
Investigators said that Kevin Akins then went to an apartment on Shadow Lane, where he shot and killed his girlfriend, Cindel Mae Rhoden, 33, and then shot and killed himself.
Friday evening, officers conducted a welfare check on Rebeca Akins after coworkers reported that she had not been seen or heard from in several days.

Surveillance video showed Kevin Akins leaving the apartment at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Investigators were able to track the suspect's vehicle to another apartment complex.
While waiting for a search warrant for an apartment unit at the location in the early morning hours on Saturday, police saw a man arrive at the scene and enter the apartment using a key.
DPD later learned that he was Rhoden's father and had come to check on Cindel after she had not been heard from for a few days. The man then came back outside and called 911 to report that he'd found his daughter and another man shot to death.
No word on a motive. The investigation is ongoing.

A father-daughter day on a lake in Lunenburg, Massachusetts ended with a 911 call they say because of a stranger who hurled rocks and racial slurs at them. Police said that stranger, David McPartlan, is now facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and assault to intimidate. CBS Boston Lunenburg police say McPartlan said the father and daughter were fishing too close to his dock and asked them to leave. However, Brown, a competitive fisherman since 1998 who's fished on the lake for years, wanted to be in the no wake zone because it was the safest place for his daughter to fish on a busy holiday weekend. "He just starts telling me, I can't fish here I shouldn't be here and I should go somewhere else and I'm like, but you didn't say anything to anybody else, I said there were three boats that were actually fishing close to your dock," said Brown. Words escalated to the frightening confrontation. "His mannerism was more aggressive, I don't know what he's going to do, he already threw the rock, so I'm recording him, and I said I'm going to call the police," said Brown. Investigators said, "Because of David's racial remarks combined with the assault on Sheron, and his minor child, his intent was to intimidate them due to their race." "Stand up to bullies" As painful as that experience was, Brown knows there's a lesson in there for all of us. "If anything, I'm showing my daughter you stand up to bullies, if someone harasses you and racism has no place in the world," said Brown. McPartlan has been summoned to Fitchburg District Court. He's expected to be arraigned June 16.

Man who died after Fort Lauderdale boat explosion operated the vessel, FWC says
A father of four died from his injuries after a boat he was driving exploded off Fort Lauderdale on Memorial Day, the man's loved ones announced in a GoFundMe fundraiser. Joshua Fifi, a 29-year-old who lived Fort Lauderdale, was identified as the man who died after the blast, according to the fundraiser page. The fundraiser, organized by Hannah Galindo, said Fifi's 'sudden passing has left his family, friends, and community in shock and grief.' The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state police agency investigating the incident, released a statement Monday night saying Fifi was the operator of the 39-foot Sea Ray cabin cruiser. He was driving the vessel north in the Intracoastal Waterway shortly after refueling around 5:45 p.m. when he tried starting the port, or left side, inboard engine and the boat exploded, according to the FWC statement. Fifi was one of the 14 people on board the vessel, which was near the large sandbar by the New River when the flash explosion occurred. Eleven people — including two young children — were hospitalized with injuries. Some were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's burn unit in Miami, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said. 'Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Mr. Fifi during this difficult time,' the FWC said in its statement. 2-year-old shot at Ohio apartment complex; Man arrested on tampering charges
A 2-year-old was shot at an apartment complex in Cincinnati over the weekend, and a 21-year-old man is now facing charges, according to our media partners, WCPO-9 TV. In part, she said she's 'outraged, heartbroken and deeply disappointed to learn that yet another child — a 2-year-old — has endured unimaginable pain and trauma after sustaining a gunshot injury this weekend.' It is unclear if Anderson will face additional charges. This shooting remains under investigation by the Cincinnati Police Department.
