Locked up in China part one — Cheng Lei on state paranoia and staying sane in isolation
When journalist Cheng Lei moved back to the country of her birth after the dramatic opening up of China to the world, she was a part of something exciting and historic. That all changed after Xi Jinping came to power, and Australia's relations with China deteriorated. In this first episode of a two-part series, Lei explains how eventually, she found herself detained on bogus espionage charges, and held for more than three years in a Chinese detention centre. For the first six months of her detention, Lei was isolated and alone except for the rotating female guards who stood over her 24 hours a day. Lei was not allowed to speak to these guards, she was forced to sit on the edge of her bed for 14 hours a day, she had to ask permission to do anything, she was not allowed to close her eyes and intermittently she was taken to a room, tied down in a chair and interrogated about allegedly sharing state secrets with foreigners. Lei learned how to ration books, she practised German vocabulary, wrote scripts in her head and thought of her two children to stay sane under torturous conditions. Families brawl at Disneyland over photo bombing, line-cutting
This is the dramatic moment a brawl broke out at Disneyland after a couple and family-of-three allegedly clashed over queue-jumping. Footage captured by a stunned onlooker shows two men and a woman in a rabbit-ear hat scuffling amid young children. In the shocking video, one man in a black T-shirt and the other in white begin wrestling each other at Shanghai Disneyland in China. A woman wearing a hat with rabbit ears is seen flailing her arms and appearing to hit them both. She then charges at another woman carrying a young child who tries to break up the fight. After being pushed back, the woman breaks down in tears and crouches to the ground, clutching the infant tightly. The man in the white T-shirt, believed to be part of the family, is then wrestled to the ground after falling on some steps. When he hits the floor, the woman with the child appears distressed and reaches out towards him. She then stands up and grabs the woman wearing the hat. Shocked visitors rush towards her, reaching out as if to take the small child away from the chaos. The couple and family came to blows over queuing, according to local media. It was also reported that the couple had tried to take a photograph together, but were blocked by the family. Theme park security are said to have stepped in to break up the scuffle. It is not yet known whether anyone involved is facing consequences. Disneyland has been approached for comment. It comes as a street brawl broke out in North London, during which a driver reportedly ran over a cyclist. Footage shows a man crossing the road wielding a baseball bat, seemingly ready to use it as a weapon. Before he could strike, he was charged at, knocked to the ground and forced to scramble backwards while being chased. The Metropolitan Police were contacted for comment. Meanwhile, chaos broke out at a cup final in Brazil between players and supporters, with one star caught on camera kicking out at rival fans.

Hazlewood and Kohli's Bengaluru win first IPL title
Royal Challengers Bengaluru and their talisman Virat Kohli ended a 17-season drought by winning their maiden IPL title, beating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final in Ahmedabad. Put into bat on Tuesday, Bengaluru posted a modest 9 for 190 before restricting Ricky Ponting-coached Punjab to 7 for 184 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Kohli top-scored for his side with 43 but it was their bowling which secured Bengaluru's memorable victory. Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood claimed one wicket, but fellow Australians Josh Inglis (39) and Marcus Stoinis (6) both ended up on the losing side. Bengaluru finished runners-up in 2009, 2011 and 2016, but finally claimed the prize, thanks largely to Krunal Pandya's sensational 2-17 in four overs. Kohli was in tears once he realised Bengaluru were about to shed the underachiever's tag that has stuck to them since the inaugural 2008 edition of the league. Afterwards, a jubilant Hazlewood said: "The wicket was a little bit up and down. Our guys batted really well to post that score - everyone just chipping in - and the bowlers held their nerve, so great result." Asked what it would mean to Kohli to end his side's title quest at last, Hazlewood said: "It probably means everything to him.
