Take a bath under the stars at five-star Highlands hotel opens luxury cottage

Daily Recorda day ago

The Torridon has launched Chestnut Cottage, a luxurious new retreat with loch views, a stargazing bath, and a cosy log burner
The UK's most northerly five-star hotel has unveiled a luxury cottage offering guests unrivalled lochside views and the chance to stargaze while soaking in a warm bath.
The Torridon's newest gem, Chestnut Cottage, is positioned as the estate's most exclusive offering. The newly-refurbished private retreat perfectly blends luxury with a warm, homely feel, capturing the essence of heritage, elegance, and comfort in the heart of the Highlands.

Guests at Chestnut Cottage can indulge in an outdoor bath under some of the darkest and clearest skies in the UK, enjoy direct access to Upper Loch Torridon, and unwind by a cosy log burner that invites quiet moments with a good book.

Inside, the walls are adorned with wallpaper by renowned British designer GP&J Baker, featuring herons and lilies that bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, fully immersing visitors in the stunning Wester Ross landscape.
The cottage's style marries traditional Victorian touches, like a bespoke wardrobe crafted by Scottish artisan Danny Rusling, with contemporary elements, including a modern mulberry stripe placed horizontally for a fresh twist.
Bold colours, plush velvets and vivid patterns create a tranquil yet energising atmosphere, designed to lift the spirits.

Rohaise Rose-Bristow, co-owner and creative visionary behind Chestnut Cottage, explained the inspiration behind the space, saying: 'We wanted to create a space where guests feel inspired by the luxury touches, but comfortable enough to kick off your muddy boots.'
She added: 'It's the perfect spot for guests to escape and to switch off from the world for a while, to recharge and leave feeling a little bit happier.'

Rohaise and her husband, Dan Rose-Bristow, took ownership of The Torridon in 1998, with Rohaise blending original Victorian charm with her own modern design flair to transform the hotel into the unique sanctuary it is today.
Nestled within 58 acres of private parkland at the foot of dramatic mountains and overlooking a shimmering sea loch, The Torridon is one of the UK's most celebrated luxury retreats.

The estate boasts fine dining at its flagship restaurant 1887 and the Bo & Muc Brasserie, headed by acclaimed Chef Danny Young.
Guests can also explore the whisky bar, offering 356 different blends, or take part in a wide range of outdoor activities from loch snorkelling and kayaking to hiking and clay pigeon shooting.
The Torridon's grandeur echoes its history as a hunting lodge built in the 1860s by William King-Noel, the first Earl of Lovelace, and completed in 1887.

The Earl is notable for marrying Ada Lovelace, Lord Byron's only legitimate daughter, who was a pioneering poetical scientist.
According to The Torridon's website, the estate represents the kind of Scottish holiday home favoured by English nobility after Queen Victoria made the Highlands respectable once again.

Today, Dan and Rohaise Rose-Bristow, who inherited the property from Rohaise's parents, have meticulously restored and reimagined The Torridon into a boutique hotel that honours its surroundings.
The award winning hotel features 18 uniquely styled rooms and suites in the main building, plus 12 more in the Stables and The Boathouse for private getaways.
Dining options highlight seasonal and traditional Scottish flavours, while outdoor adventures range from guided tours of lochs and glens to stargazing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, gorge scrambling and archery.
Room rates start from £635, offering guests a luxurious Highland escape steeped in history, comfort and natural beauty.

Miley Cyrus took on mum's 'hurt' after painful Billy Ray divorce

Miley Cyrus has opened up about being caught in the middle of the collapse of the relationship and marriage of her parents, Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish who divorced in 2023 after 30 years together Miley Cyrus has explained why she changed her mind over the difficult relationship her parents Billy Ray Cyrus and Tish Cyrus endured. The 32-year-old singer and actress has said that she can appreciate the lives and actions of her parents differently now that she is an adult. Miley - who divorced her husband, Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, 35, in 2020 after two years of marriage - has claimed she took on some of the pain her mother felt while Tish and Billy Ray struggled in their marriage. Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray and manager Tish tied-the-knot in 1993. ‌ The marriage ended in 2023, however, and Miley thinks the music industry may have contributed to the collapse of the romance. It has been documented that the end of the marriage caused a rift within the family, with claims that Miley grew distant from her father. ‌ However, the Flowers singer has now reconnected with her dad after years of estrangement, and feels she can look at his past actions through new eyes. In a new interview, the star opened up about her changing thoughts. She told the New York Times:"As I've gotten older, I'm respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents - because my mom really loved my dad for her whole life, and I think being married to someone in the music industry and not being a part of it is obviously really hard." ‌ Miley went on to explain how her empathy for her mother led her to "take on" some of her emotions. She said: "[I] took on some of my mom's hurt as my own because it hurt her more than it hurt me as an adult, and so I owned a lot of her pain." The Hannah Montana star went on to explain she has a strong bond with her mum's new husband, the actor Dominic Purcell, and also said she is glad to see her father moving on, too. Billy Ray made headlines in April when it was revealed he had embarked on a romance with Elizabeth Hurley. Miley also explained that she isn't fazed by the fact that her family drama can lead to headlines. She said: "The thing I like about the new way that the world works is that everything is so fast. In the '90s, when something happened in a tabloid, remember how it would happen for a year? Now it's just gone." ‌ She explained she has "gotten so used to it that I'm like, 'If this is the symptom -- that sometimes we deal with these embarrassing or difficult public opinions -- then that's something I'm willing to take to have the life that we have.'" Billy Ray and Tish divorced after 30 years in 2023 and went on to find new love, with Tish marrying Dominic that same year. While Billy Ray is said to be happy with British acting icon Elizabeth, he did endure a difficult relationship in the intervening years. He was married to Australian singer Johanna Rose Hodges, who performs under the name Firerose. The pair tied the knot in October 2023 after a year of dating, and had also reportedly known each other for 10 years. Firerose had worked on the set of Hannah Montana, with Billy Ray meeting her through the fact that his daughter was the star of the show. But the marriage collapsed last year, and they filed for divorce in May 2024. The divorce was finalised in August last year.

Ncuti Gatwa shares emotional post after leaving Doctor Who

Gatwa's 15th Doctor regenerated in Saturday's finale (May 31), and regenerated into the returning Billie Piper. In a statement provided by the BBC, the Scottish-Rwandan actor said the "journey has been one that I will never forget". Now, he has shared a social media post thanking co-stars Millie Gibson and Varada Sethu. Gatwa regenerating in his final episode of Doctor Who (Image: BBC Studios/Bad Wolf/PA) Ncuti Gatwa shares emotional post after leaving Doctor Who Gibson played Ruby Sunday and was the main companion in Gatwa's first series as the 15th Doctor. Her character appeared less frequently in the second series, with Varada Sethu's Belinda Chandra taking the mantle as the new companion. Taking to Instagram, Gatwa shared a picture of the trio, and said: "Three queens of the sky, "Twas an experience like no other and thank God we were by eachothers side. "There aren't quite the words for how much you both mean to me but I am so grateful I got the opportunity to work, learn from and laugh with you both everyday. "You're both just simply incredible and it has been nothing short of a blessing to share this journey with both of you. "Ruby Sunday and Belinda Chandra will live in mine and the Whoniverse hearts forever. "Also shout out to the CAPTAIN of all 15's companions. Captain Poppy. Ultimate top dog of this season! (lil Sienna brought so much life and magic to us all on set ) I love you guys. We did it." It was the first of two Instagram posts Gatwa has shared since his exit. The second was a picture of himself in the TARDIS, with the caption: "Monsters, goblins, gods, human-eating Slugs, invisible brain-altering creatures, evil barbers, conspiracy theorists… you've had quite a busy two years. Well done and rest up son. "@bbcdoctorwho @disneydoctorwho @russelltdavies63 @bad_wolf_tv Thank you endlessly. XV." Doctor Who: All Fifteen Doctors in Order In a statement released by the BBC, on his decision to leave, Gatwa said:'You know when you get cast, at some point you are going to have to hand back that sonic screwdriver and it is all going to come to an end, but nothing quite prepares you for it. 'This journey has been one that I will never forget, and a role that will be part of me forever. "There are no words to describe what it feels like to be cast as the Doctor, nor are there words to explain what it feels like to be accepted into this iconic role that has existed for over 60 years and is truly loved by so many across the globe. 'I've loved every minute of it, but now is the time to hand over the keys to that beloved blue box and let someone else take control and enjoy it every bit as much as I have. "I'll truly miss it, and forever be grateful to it, and everyone that has played a part in my journey as the Doctor.' Is Billie Piper the new Doctor on Doctor Who? After Gatwa's exit, the 15th Doctor is seen regenerating into Billie Piper. Piper, 42, first appeared in the series as the companion to the Ninth Doctor in 2005, playing Rose Tyler alongside Christopher Eccleston's Time Lord. She stayed on and was the companion to the 10th Doctor, played by David Tennant. However, despite her introduction on the show, it has not been confirmed she is the 16th Doctor. Some fans are also not convinced, with the end credits reading: "And introducing Billie Piper." Many compared this to when Ncuti Gatwa was introduced as the 15th Doctor, when it read: "And introducing Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor." Previous actors have also received similar credit introductions. "Ncuti Gatwa as The Doctor" "Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor" "And introducing Billie Piper" ...but NO "as The Doctor" I FIND THAT VERY SUS. — Ben (He/Him) (@BenDW96) May 31, 2025 One said on X (formerly Twitter): "Billie Piper wasn't introduced as the Doctor, and this year was the 20th anniversary of Series 1... There's definitely more to this..." Another said: "She's clearly not the Doctor but some Bad Wolf shenanigans." Fueling speculation on her role in the show, Doctor Who TV simply says: "But just how and why she is back remains to be seen…" Recommended reading: On her return, Piper said: 'It's no secret how much I love this show, and I have always said I would love to return to the Whoniverse as I have some of my best memories there, so to be given the opportunity to step back on that Tardis one more time was just something I couldn't refuse, but who, how, why and when, you'll just have to wait and see.' Shortly after the finale aired, the actress shared a post on Instagram holding a rose with the caption that read: 'A rose is a rose is a rose !!!' If she is confirmed as The Doctor, Piper will be the second after Jody Whittaker's 13th Doctor.

Lionel Richie opens up about gruelling life on the road as he kicks off his first UK tour in a decade

THE LIONEL KING Lionel Richie opens up about gruelling life on the road as he kicks off his first UK tour in a decade Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HE is one of the most enduring names in music and, at 75, is still gaining new fans. As he kicked off his first UK tour in a decade, it is clear things are different for Lionel Richie these days, with his beloved red wine switched for electrolyte-filled water to keep him on top form on the road. He said: 'If The King wants to sing Easy like Sunday Morning with me, that's fantastic. It would be a hoot.' But despite his royal connections, Lionel admitted you might still find him in a British boozer. He said: 'I have my pub master Bernie. "He will take me to the latest and the greatest of the pubs.' And would he indulge in some of our great British pub snacks, like a bag of pork scratchings? 'Have I ever had some weird British food? Yes,' Lionel says with a laugh 'I had black pudding, I did not like it. "I was warming up on it for a moment and then they told me what it was and, psychologically, I just went off the rails. 'There will be no black pudding on tour for sure.' Charles always makes the same joke, says Lionel Ritchie as he opens up about friendship with King Opening up about going back on the road, Lionel explained: 'It's called play period. 'It's an excuse to leave the house and act silly all over again, otherwise life becomes boring. 'Going on tour is the best ever as my fans put on a show better than I can. "When I look out into the audience, I see all the afro wigs and moustaches . . . and that is just the girls. 'It is Lionel in the Seventies, Eighties, Nineties and Noughties — they put me all together in these various outfits. "It is amazing and fun to watch.' Now almost six decades into his career, Lionel travels with a small team including a physical therapist. Lionel said: 'You have to be in shape. "You might think that it's easy to walk on that stage but try two hours of that, plus running, plus singing. "You do that multiple times, well you better be in good condition. It is set up to wipe you out. 'PROTECT YOUR VOCALS' 'I have been doing it for so long now, it's like second nature. But don't take it for granted.' Another secret weapon in his touring armour is bringing along his own pillow on tour. He explained: 'I elevate the bed at an angle as that keeps the acid reflux at bay. "The most important part you are trying to protect is your vocals. 'Eating late is also a disaster because trying to sleep and digest food at the same time calls for a rough voice.' But while he has a team with him at all times, Lionel isn't dishing out a list of diva demands. Nor is he sitting in hair and make-up for hours. 7 Lionel Richie at the 7th Annual American Cinema Awards in 1990 Credit: Getty 7 Lionel in the 80s when he released single 'Hello' Credit: Getty He said: 'The one thing I can't do is a lot of hair and make- up. I don't know how people can do it.' 'I sweat a lot and on the first two songs, whatever make-up I had on, or whatever hair style I had, leaves immediately. "And I don't really need make-up by that point. 'I am on stage and enjoying it. "The last thing I would want is my mascara to be running. That is not a good look.' Even a pre-gig tipple is out of the question. Lionel laughed: 'Alcohol before a show? No, no, we don't do that. 'Back in The Commodores days you could do anything. You're bulletproof. 'But now, alcohol? No. Just get me out on stage with as much water and things to get the electrolytes going and that is it. 'I don't even know how we survived the Seventies and Eighties. It was fun though.' 7 Lionel and The Sun's Jack Hardwick Credit: Supplied Lionel added: 'Ten years ago I used to love red wine and I tried to let that be my potion to bring me down. "That phased out of my whole existence as purple teeth by the end of the tour was not going to be the way I wanted to go. 'I get a great bite to eat, lots of water and just wait for yourself to come down. 'Though I must admit, a good massage is needed. You need to just let your body come down. 'The worst thing to do is to try and jump into bed and think you are going to go to sleep. "You twitch for about four hours as your adrenaline is too high.' As we chatted in his dressing room, the rolling news channel on his TV showed King Charles, and conversation turned to His Majesty. Despite the invitation for a singalong, Lionel admitted: 'Listen, this guy is so busy. 'He is probably going to be the first royal to travel as much as you can imagine. 'I can see him moving around quite a bit but is he going to pop into the show and surprise me? You never know. 'Now Camilla, that would be possible. "She is a hoot in the kindest of respects. She is so funny and she has such a good sense of humour. "They both do. I love her sense of humour." We'd pay seriously good money to see that. 7 Lionel Richie performing at the Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle Credit: Getty Set list Overture Hello Running With The Night Easy - My Love Penny Lover Sela Stuck On You Sail On You Are Brick House Three Times A Lady Fancy Dancer Sweet Love Lady You Bring Me Up Truly Endless Love Destiny Dancing On The Ceiling Still Say You, Say Me We Are The World All Night Long Tour dates June 4 - Glasgow - OVO Hydro June 6 - London - The O2 June 8 Sheffield - Utillta Arena June 9 - Birmingham - Utillita Arena June 12 - Manchester - Co-Op Live June 13 - Manchester - Co-Op Live June 15 - London - The O2 Unlock even more award-winning articles as The Sun launches brand new membership programme - Sun Club.
