A completely normal lad – football stars reflect on David Beckham as he turns 50

'He's a completely normal lad. Even over the years his brilliance on the football field and what his ability to earn off the field has become, he has always been such a level-headed lad and great fun to be with.
'He worked exceptionally hard when he was playing and training, despite what many people's sort of perception of him may be. The football always came first and when you were going in training with him day in, day out you understood that.
'One thing has sort of led to another – obviously he's married a Spice Girl, he's been stopping traffic in the middle of Times Square with a billboard that was the size of the skyscraper and eventually fulfilled his long-term ambition from when he finished playing to own a football club and in collaboration with others he's managed to do that.
'Everything that he throws himself into he does with aplomb and he does with a great deal of success. I couldn't be prouder and it was a great privilege to play in the same team as him and to grow up with him.'

'I have to say the five (Class of 92 members) that made the squad were unbelievable and among them was David Beckham. They were well-trained, well-educated young men, who came into quite a good squad of football players.
'I don't think anyone that knows about football underestimates the quality of David Beckham. I can't remember a player who delivered a cross and service to strikers at that quality.
'I think if you ask players like Ruud van Nistelrooy or Dwight Yorke who the best player they've ever played with is, they would probably mention him right at the top.
'He's a big superstar. There's no doubt about that. He's done really well for himself and he always wanted to do that.'
Edwin van der Sar – former United player, opponent and fellow football executive having served as Ajax CEO
'He went from being a player, fashion icon and global superstar to buying, or having ownership, of a football club – and still doing photoshoots and looking like he's 32!
'When Ajax played Valencia a couple years ago, I remember giving a tour to David, Gary (Neville), Ryan (Giggs), Phil Neville. They wanted to see the set-up of the youth academy, so we spent a couple of hours in Amsterdam before the game.
'I think he had already an eye for building a club and, of course, getting one of the global superstars of the game in Miami with Lionel Messi.'

Arsenal dealt blow as Nico Williams responds to Bayern Munich approach

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has told Bayern Munich he is 'very open' to joining them this summer, according to reports in Germany. Arsenal and Chelsea have Williams on their shortlist for the summer transfer window with both Premier League clubs wanting to strengthen in wide areas. Williams was one of Spain's standout stars at Euro 2024 and finished this season with 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao, who finished fourth in La Liga to secure a place in next season's Champions League. Bayern Munich have also entered the running to sign Williams having lost Leroy Sane, who arrived in Turkey on Wednesday ahead of his move to Galatasaray on a free transfer. According to Sky Germany, Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, and sporting director, Christoph Freund, have held talks with Williams' representatives. It's also claimed that Williams himself has told Bayern that he is 'very open' to joining them this summer. Bayern, however, will need to pay the €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in Williams' deal with Bilbao, as well as meet the 22-year-old's salary demands, which are understood to be in the region of €380,000 (£322,000) a week. More Trending Speaking in April, Williams gave no indication that he would push for a move away from Bilbao this summer. 'I'm super happy here and feel well,' the winger said. 'I've always wanted to feel important here.' Bilbao have also been in talks with Williams to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027. Jonny Evans makes surprise announcement on future after Man Utd release him

Jonny Evans has been released by Manchester United and the defender remains uncertain about what could come next in his career when he leaves the Red Devils this month Jonny Evans is in no rush to make a decision on his future after it was confirmed he would be released by Manchester United. The defender is set to see his contract expire at the end of the month with no renewal forthcoming. But despite the 37-year-old being firmly in the twilight of his career, no official announcement on a retirement has arrived, though he is expected to do so. The Northern Irish defender is set to reflect on his situation before making a decision over his next steps. ‌ Evans is set to end his second spell at Old Trafford having returned to the club in 2023 to take on a senior role in the dressing room and to provide additional depth in United's backline. The veteran probably played more than anticipated making 30 appearances in his first season back to see his contract extended by a further year. ‌ Evans was called upon less frequently last term in a difficult season and joins the likes of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof in exiting the club. Tom Heaton remains in discussions over potentially extending his stay. It had been suggested Evans' departure could mark the end of his career, after Evans noted 'It was stay here or retire' last summer. The defender is yet to make plans however. "I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about his future . "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything." In his eight years away from Manchester, Evans spent three years at West Bromwich Albion and five years at Leicester. The central defender added an FA Cup victory in 2021 to three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cup success across his two stints with the Red Devils. Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland and provided some analysis on where the nation stands during his appearance on BBC. The ex-Sunderland loanee is hopeful his former boss, Michael O'Neill can lead the country to World Cup qualification. ‌ "When you've got Michael O'Neill in charge, he gives everyone a little bit of hope," said Evans, "He's taken the team to a major tournament before and if you want anyone in charge, it's him. "When I look at this team it reminds me of ourselves. He's playing five at the back and he has Isaac Price, he's on a good run of form. "You look throughout the team, you see Dan Ballard and Trai Hume getting promoted, they'll be playing Premier League football and that'll only be good for the team. I'm excited. Over the next couple of years I think we'll see them progress together." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. Brooklyn Beckham embroiled in trademark dispute with Beck's beer as he tries to expand his hot sauce company in latest blow

Brooklyn Beckham has reportedly become embroiled in a trademark with Beck's beer after trying to expand his hot sauce business. The son of Victoria and David Beckham, 26, announced the launch of his new hot sauce brand Cloud23, available exclusively at Whole Foods shops in the UK, back in October. It was revealed in January that Brooklyn had planned to expand his hot sauce company and applied to trademark 'Becks Buns '. However Brooklyn has been dealt a blow after The Sun reported that Beck's beer, owned by Brauerei Beck & Co, has challenged it. A source told the publication that the parent firm of Beck's beer has opposed his Becks Buns trademark and has been granted a one-month extension to file documents relating to their challenge. It comes as Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, have been engulfed in an escalating family rift, with parents David and Victoria believed to be concerned about the influence the billionaire heiress has over their eldest son. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. A source told The Sun: 'It's one thing after another for Brooklyn. 'First his row with his dad blows up — and now he's got another Beck's looking like it's going to become a bit of a headache.' Cloud 23, named after the No.23 jersey his father wore at Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, comes in two variants – Sweet Jalapeno and Hot Habanero. Elsewhere on Wednesday, Brooklyn appeared to debut a new tattoo as he shared a shirtless snap - which also seemed to show him with cupping marks. Cupping is loved by celebrities and is a therapeutic technique that uses a vacuum force applied onto the skin's surface. It is thought to stimulate healing as it encourages extra blood flow. It comes after Cruz seemed to show he is open to reconciling with his brother Brooklyn amid their ongoing devastating family feud. The youngest of the Beckham brothers, 20, took to Instagram on Wednesday as he shared a black and white photo of Victoria holding a baby Harper on the sofa as Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz all nestled in. The musician left the adorable childhood snap uncaptioned, as he seemed to suggest he hasn't turned his back on his eldest brother. However on Wednesday it was revealed that Brooklyn has reportedly ' told his famous family that he wants no contact' with them in the latest devastating turn of their ongoing feud. While a source close to Brooklyn denied the claims, a source told Page Six: 'Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect.' According to the publication, the eldest Beckham boy has had no communication with his family following father David's knighthood being announced last week and only learned of the news in the media alongside the rest of the world. Denying he'd asked for no contact, a source close to Brooklyn told the publication: 'Everyone's focus should be David Beckham 's great honour'. Meanwhile a source close to Brooklyn also denied the claims as they told MailOnline, 'this seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honour being bestowed on Brooklyn's father.' MailOnline contacted David's reps for comment at the time. On Monday Cruz showed his support for his mum amid the bitter family feud as he debuted a dramatic makeover which channelled the designer's iconic 'Posh crop'. Gone were the budding musician's longer messy locks, instead sporting a much shorter sleeker do, reminiscent of his mum's style way back in 2008. Last month, MailOnline revealed that tensions in the family have grown so bitter that the musician was going out of his way to avoid his estranged brother. He has taken to contacting the family's favourite hangouts ahead of any visits to confirm that he won't cross paths with his sibling. Cruz is said to have sent messages to the owners of their haunts specifically asking questions such as, 'Is Brooklyn there?', to make sure the coast was clear. And he even follows that up with a request to 'let him know' if his brother later turned up, sources say.
