A proposal to extend the currently operational Jaynagar–Patna Namo Metro to Buxar via Ara has been submitted to the Railway Board by the East Central Railway. Running on conventional railway tracks, the Namo Metro features a metro-style design and can reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. It includes an automatic door locking system, ample standing space, and comfortable seating. Each seat is also equipped with a mobile charging point. Railway sources have disclosed that plans are in progress to extend the Namo Bharat Rapid Express, currently running between Jaynagar and Patna, up to Buxar this month. If the Railway Board grants approval, the train will offer passengers from Buxar and Ara a direct route to Jaynagar via Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Madhubani. Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of the Hajipur Railway Zone, stated that the Namo Bharat Express is currently maintained at Patna Junction after arriving from Jaynagar. The train remains idle in Patna for about five hours. To make productive use of this time and enhance passenger convenience, Danapur Division has proposed its extension to the Hajipur Headquarters. If approved, the extended route could serve over 600 passengers daily from Ara and Buxar. Namo Bharat Express Fare The Namo Bharat Express departs from Jaynagar at 5:28 AM and reaches Patna Junction at 10:30 AM, stopping at Sakri, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Barauni, and Mokama. On the return journey, it leaves Patna at 6:05 PM and arrives at Jaynagar at 11:45 PM. The sleeper class fare between Patna and Jaynagar is Rs 340, while the general class fare is Rs 85. However, the fare between Patna and the proposed new stops—Ara and Buxar—has not yet been determined. First Published: June 09, 2025, 15:32 IST
