Summer special trains to clear extra rush
Visakhapatnam: In order to clear extra rush during summer season Indian Railways has decided to run special trains. As part of it, special train between Charlapalli – Srikakulam Road – Charlapalli (07421/07422) will be operated. Charlapalli – Srikakulam Road Special Express (07421) will leave Charlapalli at 6:55 am from May 20, 27 and June 10, 17 and 24. It will reach Duvvada the next day at 7:55 pm and depart at 7:57 pm, Vizianagaram at 9:25 pm and depart at 9:35 pm. It will reach Srikakulam Road at 10:45 pm on Wednesdays.
In return, Direction Srikakulam Road – Charlapalli Special Express (07422) will leave Srikakulam Road at 12:30 midnight on Wednesday from May 14, 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18 and 25. It reaches Vizianagaram at 12:45 midnight and depart at 12:55 midnight, Duvvada at 3:20 am and departs at 3.22 am before reaching Charlapalli the next day on 3 pm on Wednesdays.
The train will halt at Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Piduguralla, Sattenapalle, Guntur, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Anakapalle, Duvvada, Kottavalasa, Vizianagaram, Chipurupalli between Charlapalli – Srikakulam Road - Charlapalli.
Similarly, a special train between Charlapalli – Srikakulam Raod – Charlapalli (07425/07426) wil be run.
Charlapalli – Srikakulam Road Special Express (07425) will leave Charlapalli at 4:30 am on Mondays from May 12, 19, June 2, 9, 16 and 23.
It will reach Duvvada the next day at 2:30 pm and depart at 2:32 pm, Vizianagaram at 4:15 pm and depart at 4:25 pm. It reaches Srikakulam Road at 5.30 pm on Mondays.
In return, Srikakulam Road – Charlapalli Special Express (07426) will leave Srikakulam Road at 7:30 pm on Monday from May 12, 19, June 2, 9, 16 and 23. It reaches Vizianagaram at 8:15 pm and departs at 8:25 pm, Duvvada at 10 pm and departs at 10.02 pm before reaching Charlapalli the next day at 9:15 am on Tuesdays.
The train wills stop at Kazipet, Warangal, Mehbubabad, Khammam, Rayanapadu, Eluru, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Tuni, Duvvada, Kottavalasa, Vizianagaram, Chipurupalli between Charlapalli – Srikakulam Road - Charlapalli.
A special train between Charlapalli – Brahmapur – Charlapalli (07027/07028) will be operated for eight trips.
Charlapalli - Brahmapur Special Express (07027) will leave Charlapalli at 8:15 pm on Fridays from May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 13, 20 and 27. It will reach Duvvada the next day at 9:25 am and depart at 9:27 am to reach Brahmapur at 2:15 pm on Saturdays.
In return, Brahmapur – Charlapalli Special Express (07028) will leave Brahmapur at 4:45 pm on Saturdays from May 17, 24, 31, June 7, 14, 21 and 28. It reaches Duvvada at 9:43 pm and departs at 9.45 pm before reaching Charlapalli the next day at 11:35 am on Sundays.
The train will halt at Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Sattenapalle, Guntur, Vijayawada, Eluru, Tadepalligudem, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Annavaram, Elamanchili, Anakapalli, Duvvada, Pendurthi, Kottavalasa, Vizianagaram, Chipurupalli, Srikakulam Road, Naupada, Palasa, Sompeta, Ichhapuram between Chipurupalli - Brahmapur-Chipurupalli.e are requested to make use of these special train services.

Connecting bridge: on Kashmir, India and the Chenab Rail Bridge
'Kashmir to Kanniyakumari' is a figurative expression to denote the geographical expanse of India, from its northernmost point to its southern tip, and for the first time in history these are connected by rail. With the inauguration of the 272-kilometre Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project which has been 28 years in the making, the Kashmir Valley has been connected to the national rail network. The tough, unsurmountable topography of the Himalayas challenged the engineering capabilities of the Indian Railways, but it has come out with flying colours. The engineering marvel, the Chenab Rail Bridge, that stands 35 metres higher than the Eiffel Tower, is the world's highest railway arch bridge at 359 metres above the riverbed. Spanning 1,315 m, it will endure wind speeds of up to 260 km per hour and has been built to last 120 years. Nearby, the Anji Khad Bridge, rises boldly across the rugged terrain as India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. Towering 331 m above the riverbed and stretching 725 m across, it is anchored by 96 high-tensile cables; 8,200 metric tonnes of structural steel went into its construction. Built at a cost of ₹43,780 crore, the USBRL link witnessed drilling of mountains to set up 36 tunnels that span 119 kilometres and 943 bridges through ridges and mountain passes. Kashmir's decades of geographical isolation have finally come to an end. The Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar in the Kashmir region and Katra in the Jammu region, which was also flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cuts the surface journey to three hours between the two points. Later this year, a scheduled direct train service between the national capital New Delhi and Srinagar will allow commuters to touch base in just 13 hours compared to over 24 hours in the past. The Vande Bharat Express, a long-distance high-speed service, is bound to end the psychological barriers, multiply the development dividend and act as a game changer for the economy of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). The train service has brought renewed hope to the region not long after the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 pushed India and Pakistan to a short conflict. India's 'Operation Sindoor', against terror infrastructure across the border, saw Pakistan ending the ceasefire agreement and targeting civilians, leaving 18 dead and over 1,500 houses damaged. While inaugurating the train service in Katra, Mr. Modi rightly described the rail link as 'a symbol of a new, empowered J&K'. The bridge will go a long way to bring the people of Kashmir closer to the rest of India.

New Tatkal Ticket Rules: Taking a big step for Tatkal ticket booking, Indian Railways has announced that from July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar verified users will be able to book Tatkal train tickets. The Railway Ministry issued instructions to all railway zones on June 10, 2025, stating that these rules are to 'extend the benefits of Tatkal scheme to common users'. In the official notification, it was told that 'From 01-07-2025, tickets under Tatkal scheme can be booked only by Aadhaar verified users through the website / app of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).' Further, the ministry has stipulated that from July 15, 2025, passengers will have to complete an additional step of Aadhaar-based OTP authentication for instant booking. Details of Tatkal Ticket Rules 2025 (New Tatkal Ticket Rules 2025): From July 1, 2025, train tickets under the Indian Railways' Tatkal scheme will be booked only through the IRCTC website or mobile app and will be available only to those users who have completed Aadhaar verification. Additionally, from July 15, 2025, the Ministry has made an additional Aadhaar-linked OTP verification process mandatory during instant booking. The instructions also mention restrictions on Tatkal booking for authorised ticketing agents of Indian Railways. These agents will not be able to make bookings in the first 30 minutes of Tatkal ticket booking on the first day. This restriction will apply from 10.00 am to 10.30 am for air-conditioned classes and from 11.00 am to 11.30 am for non-air-conditioned classes. The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC have been directed by the ministry to make necessary changes in the system and disseminate these updates to all zonal railway divisions.

Attention Railway passengers! From July 1 2025, only users who have Aadhaar authentication on the IRCTC app and website will be able to book Tatkal tickets, the railway ministry has said in an official statement. The railway ministry, in a circular dated June 10, told all zonal offices that it had taken this decision 'to ensure that the benefits of the Tatkal Scheme are received by the common end users.' 'With effect from 01-07-2025, tickets under Tatkal scheme can be booked through the website of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)/ its app only by Aadhaar authenticated users,' the railway ministry said in its circular. As the rule comes into effect, users will also be required to mandatorily put an Aadhaar-based OTP for authentication. This will come into effect from July 15. 'Tatkal tickets shall be available for booking through computerized PRS (Passenger Reservation System) counters of Indian Railways/authorized agents only after authentication of a system-generated OTP, which shall be sent through the system on the mobile number furnished by the users at the time of booking. This shall also be implemented by 15/07/2025,' the ministry said in its notification. The circular also specified that authorised ticketing agents of the Indian Railways will not be permitted to book opening day Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the Tatkal booking window. Specifically, they will be restricted from booking Tatkal tickets for air-conditioned classes from 10.00 am to 10.30 am and for non-air-conditioned classes from 11.00 am to 11.30 am. The ministry has directed the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and IRCTC to make the necessary modifications to the system and communicate these changes to all zonal railways. The railway ministry also said Wednesday that a trial had been launched to confirm the status of waitlist passengers 24 hours before the departure of the time, instead of the current 4 hours. Ministry officials assured that the pilot project would become part of the policy only after receiving a positive response from the passengers. 'We have started this pilot project in the Bikaner Division, where charts are being prepared 24 hours before the train departure. The current practice is doing so before 4 hours', Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, said. He noted that this trial was being done keeping in mind the concerns of passengers who remain uncertain about their journey due to a waiting ticket. "Now, if they know 24 hours before that their tickets are confirmed, they can plan their travel better," he added. However, once a ticket is confirmed, passengers will lose a substantial chunk of the ticket amount as penalty in case of cancellation. According to the cancellation policy, if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 48 hours and 12 hours before departure, passengers will receive 25 per cent of the ticket amount back. If cancelled between 12 hours and 4 hours before departure, they will receive only 50 per cent.
