LeBron James hypes Cooper Flagg before 2025 NBA Draft
Cooper Flagg gets the LeBron James stamp of approval.
James, on Tuesday's episode of the 'Mind the Game' podcast, said why he liked the presumptive No. 1 NBA draft pick's game.
'I personally think that he wants to be great. He had a hell of a year at Duke,' James said on the show he hosts with Steve Nash. '[Flagg is] a guy that can do so many different things out on the floor. Can play with the ball, can play without the ball. His jump shot is going to continue to get better. Super athletic, quick second jump.'
Ever since the Mavericks won the draft lottery in May, Flagg has been penciled in to be heading to Dallas — an unusual landing spot for a top pick as the team wasn't 'tanking,' is full of veterans and plans to be competitive this past season despite trading away Luka Doncic.
James believes this will work in Flagg's favor.

'He has the benefit, unlike myself, he gets to join a team that's established with Hall of Fame guys — Klay Thompson, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving — right off the bat. Hall of Fame coach, Jason Kidd,' James added. 'They can give him the whole blueprint while he continues to learn what his blueprint will be.'
In James' day, he was selected by the Cavaliers in 2003 when the team was fresh off an abysmal 17-65 season.
The then-18-year-old was immediately tasked with some heavy lifting for the franchise.
Flagg won't have this typical burden of a No. 1 pick with the veteran options like Davis, Irving and Thompson leading the team – and he'll get to learn a thing or two from them, too.

'I think that will be an incredible thing to have that type of presence, that type of leadership, that type of just basketball IQ and knowledge around him every single day from those pieces,' James said.
Flagg is coined as a unique prospect, as he doesn't blow other prospects out of the water in any one category, but still excels at just about anything.
The 18-year-old racked up just about every honor possible in his lone season at Duke as the Naismith Award winner, Wooden Award winner, the AP Player of the Year and a consensus All American.

A rumored exit gets silenced once and for all by Rashod Bateman. There are stepping-stone jobs and destination jobs. Coaching Duke football can be seen as a former role. Leading the Alabama Crimson Tide is the latter. Football is one of our great country's national sports. One never knows whether their current dwelling is their 'forever home' or another leg of the journey. Coaches, players, and their children feel it worse than anyone else, the spectre of possibly needing to adjust to a new city and environment. Take Rashod Bateman, for instance. He has been a Baltimore Ravens star since entering the league, but uncertainty about his future plagued most of his spring. Then, it happened. He agreed to terms on an extension on June 5th. It was a nice close to a few months that were filled with uncertainty. That didn't stop the rumors that followed. Though many of them were quiet, they began almost immediately. There were whispers that the Dallas Cowboys were interested. Then came conversations about the Green Bay Packers. Ultimately, the Ravens shut everything down before anything gained any traction. Then, there was the response by Mr. Bateman. Baltimore is where he wanted to be all along. "'I knew I wanted to be back in Baltimore, but I've seen the business, and obviously, you just never know. That's the first thing I told (Eric) DeCosta in a mature way when we first got on the phone, 'With all due respect, I want to be here,' that was the first thing I said. Every Tennessee basketball player drafted in Rick Barnes era
The 2025 NBA draft will be held Wednesday-Thursday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, home of the Nets. The draft will be televised at 8 p.m. EDT by ESPN with the first round taking place Wednesday and the second round slated for Thursday. The first round will also be televised by ABC. Tennessee guard Chaz Lanier is projected as a second round pick. ESPN projects the former Vol to be selected No. 38 overall by San Antonio. Prior to the 2025 NBA draft, Vols Wire looks at Tennessee's draft picks who played for head coach Rick Barnes. He has coached the Vols since the 2015-16 season. Eight Tennessee players who played for Barnes have been drafted since 2019. Grant Williams was a first-round selection (No. 22) in 2019. The two-time SEC Player of the Year was one of three Vols drafted in 2019. Admiral Schofield was selected in the in the second round (No. 42 overall) by Philadelphia and traded to Washington. Jordan Bone was selected in the second round (No. 57 overall) by New Orleans. The Vols had two players selected in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft. Both were selected after one year at Tennessee. Keon Johnson was selected No. 21 overall by New York and traded to the Clippers. Jaden Springer was selected No. 28 overall by Boston. Kennedy Chandler was drafted with the No. 38 overall by San Antonio in 2022 and was traded to Memphis. In 2023, Julian Phillips was selected No. 35 overall by the Celtics and was traded to Chicago.
