The New York Knicks stunned the basketball world when they decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau.
The Knicks are officially in the market for a new head coach. In the meantime, Thibodeau has broken his silence following his departure — by joining social media. In his first post, Thibodeau thanked both the fans and the organization, expressing his gratitude in a brief but telling message.

"When I was hired in 2020, I said this was my dream job. I am grateful that dreams became a reality. Thank you to our players and coaching staff who gave everything they had, and to everyone who makes this franchise special. I am proud of everything we accomplished together, including four playoff appearances and this year's run to the Eastern Conference finals — our first in 25 years.
"And to the fans, thank you for believing in me and embracing me from day one. Watching you support our team, and seeing the Garden ignite with that incomparable Knicks energy, is something I will never forget."

Thibodeau's dismissal came on the heels of the Knicks' loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, which was decided in six games. Despite guiding New York past the reigning champion Celtics in the second round and steering the franchise to its first conference finals berth in 25 years, it ultimately wasn't enough to secure his job.
During his five-year run, Thibodeau led the Knicks to the playoffs in four seasons and delivered back-to-back 50-win campaigns—something the franchise hadn't done since the 1990s. He wrapped up his tenure with a 250-197 overall record.
What's Next for the Knicks After Tom Thibodeau's Exit?
As Thibodeau's coaching future remains uncertain, the Knicks are now locked in on finding the right voice to lead them forward. However, it hasn't been easy for the team thus far.
The Knicks requested permission to speak to Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. Both teams denied the Knicks' request.
Additionally, UConn head coach Dan Hurley publicly declined the opportunity to become the next head coach of the Knicks.
It hasn't been the prettiest of starts for the Knicks thus far in the coaching search, but they still have plenty of time to find their guy.

New York Rangers trade veteran winger Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks
Kreider, 34, agreed earlier in the day to waive his no-trade clause to accept the move. 'Chris Kreider is the type of player we were looking to add this offseason,' Ducks GM Pat Verbeek said. 'He has size, speed and is a clutch performer that elevates his game in big moments. Chris also upgrades both of our special teams units, something we really needed to address.' Advertisement Moving on from Kreider is Drury's first offseason change to a roster that underachieved and missed the playoffs following a trip last year to the Eastern Conference final. Kreider joins former Rangers captain Jacob Trouba in Southern California after the defenseman was traded to the Ducks in December. Kreider is the franchise leader with 84 playoff goals and is third in regular-season goal-scoring with 326. He spent his first 13 seasons with New York after the team drafted him 19th in 2009. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Indiana Pacers are just two wins away from winning an NBA title. Myles Turner is one of the big reasons why they are in the NBA Finals in the first place. Turner is someone who has had his name in trade rumors for each of the last few years. It seems like for each of the last five years or so that he has been in rumors. It's clear that Turner is someone who is valued across the NBA. If so many other teams want him, maybe the Pacers should try to keep him long-term. Turner will be a free agent for the first time... Myles Turner #33 of the Indiana Pacers reacts against the New York Knicks during the fourth quarter in Game Three of the Eastern Conference Finals. Turner will be a free agent for the first time this offseason. More Photo byTurner is going to be a free agent for the first time in his career this summer. He is likely going to be the top free-agent center available this summer, and the Pacers know it. In order to keep him, the Pacers will need to pay into the luxury tax for the first time in 20 years. It sounds like that is the plan once the offseason hits. "The Indiana Pacers know they need to have Myles Turner back. They can't afford to lose him."@ShamsCharania says the Pacers are "prepared and expecting to pay the luxury tax" to keep Myles Turner 💰 — NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) June 12, 2025 Turner is the longest-tenured Pacers player on the roster. He has been there for ten years and has seen a lot of iterations of this team. This is the first time that he is playing in the NBA Finals. While his offensive production hasn't been great so far, his defense has been solid. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle has said that Turner is dealing with an illness, which could explain why he hasn't been able to hit the number of shots that he normally does. Keeping Turner for the foreseeable future is a priority for the Pacers. He fits how the team plays perfectly because of his ability to hit threes and block shots in the paint. The Pacers have already proven that this current core can compete for a championship. Keeping them together for as long as possible is what the organization should do, even if paying the luxury tax is the only way to do it. Turner is going to command a decent amount of money, as he should. He is the best center on the market and is hitting the market at the perfect time. The rest of the starting lineup is locked up for quite a few years, so they just need to do the same for Turner. If they do that, they will be a hard team to beat.
