Foxconn Ships 97% of India-Made iPhones to U.S.

Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) efforts to sidestep steep U.S. tariffs on China-made handsets are crystalizing in India, where Foxconn shipped roughly 97% of its $3.2 billion in iPhone exports to the U.S. between March and Mayup from a 50.3% U.S. share in 2024. May alone saw about $1 billion of India-made iPhones land stateside, the second-largest monthly tally after March's $1.3 billion, according to customs data. In the first five months of 2025, Foxconn has sent $4.4 billion worth of devices from India to Americaalready surpassing the full-year 2024 total of $3.7 billion. Apple CEO Tim Cook told investors that most iPhones sold in the June quarter in the U.S. would be built in India, part of a broader push to diversify manufacturing beyond China. Foxconn's plants and Tata Electronics' three South India facilitieswhere 86% of their March-April output also went to the central to that strategy. Apple has even lobbied Chennai airport officials to cut customs clearance times from 30 hours to six, smoothing the export pipeline. While India faces its own tariff negotiationsa baseline 10% import duty and a paused 26% surcharge proposed by the Trump administrationApple's shift underscores how global supply chains are realigning around tariff arbitrage. In parallel, former President Trump has threatened 25% levies on iPhones not made in the U.S. and floated 55% duties on Chinese goods, highlighting the political stakes. Why It Matters: With India becoming a primary export hub for U.S. iPhone sales, Apple could trim tariff drag and fortify its supply resiliencebut must navigate evolving duties and geopolitical headwinds. Buy, Sell, Or Hold Boeing Stock At $200?

AHMEDABAD, INDIA - JUNE 13: A commercial aeroplane is seen over of site of crashed Air India Boeing ... More 787, on June 13, 2025 in Ahmedabad, India. (Photo by) Boeing (NYSE:BA) declined by 5% on Thursday, June 12, following the devastating crash of an Air India 787 Dreamliner, resulting in the death of 241 individuals. Although the 787 is generally regarded as a very safe aircraft, Boeing has encountered considerable scrutiny and penalties over the past year due to ongoing quality control problems, especially regarding its 737 MAX fleet. Refer to – Boeing Stock Faces Fresh Crisis After 787 Dreamliner Crash. Despite its current price of approximately $205, which may seem like a reasonable valuation, we do not consider Boeing stock to be a compelling investment at this moment. Our evaluation, which compares Boeing's existing valuation to its recent operational performance and financial health, reveals several significant issues. We evaluated Boeing across critical criteria: Growth, Profitability, Financial Stability, and Downturn Resilience. Our results demonstrate that the company exhibits very poor operating performance and financial health, making it an undesirable investment at this time. However, if you are looking for potential upside with lower volatility than individual stocks, the Trefis High Quality portfolio offers an alternative — having outperformed the S&P 500 and delivered returns exceeding 91% since it was established. In terms of what you pay per dollar of sales or profit, BA stock is currently valued similarly to the overall market. Boeing's Revenues have experienced modest growth over the recent years. Boeing's profit margins are significantly lower than most companies in the Trefis coverage universe. Boeing's balance sheet appears moderately solid. BA stock has performed significantly worse than the benchmark S&P 500 index during several recent downturns. Concerned about the effects of a market crash on BA stock? Our dashboard How Low Can Boeing Stock Go In A Market Crash? provides a detailed analysis of how the stock has performed during and after prior market crashes. In conclusion, Boeing's performance in the parameters outlined above is as follows: Based on our evaluation, Boeing's lackluster performance across essential metrics is not adequately reflected in its seemingly moderate stock valuation. This discrepancy is why we believe BA stock is currently very unattractive and represents a poor investment. Naturally, our assessment may be incorrect. If Boeing successfully addresses its 737 MAX challenges and substantially ramps up production and deliveries, the stock could rise to higher levels. Nevertheless, from both an operational and financial viewpoint, it remains a risky choice. Be aware that there is always a significant risk involved when investing in a single stock or just a few stocks. Consider the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio which, with a selection of 30 stocks, has a history of comfortably outperforming the S&P 500 over the last four-year period. What is the reason? As a collective, HQ Portfolio stocks have generated better returns with less risk compared to the benchmark index; resulting in a less turbulent investment experience, as demonstrated in HQ Portfolio performance metrics.

A tragic incident has shaken Indian aviation, and it was the first fatal crash for a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The plane has a strong safety record and the cause of the crash remains under investigation, but the incident has cast a somber shadow over the industry. The Dreamliner, a key component of Air India's long-haul fleet, has been central to the airline's international expansion in recent years. The Air India Group, which includes the main airline Air India and its low-cost subsidiary Air India Express, is the largest operator of Boeing aircraft in India with a total of 132 planes. Air India mainly uses Boeing jets for its widebody operations and is the country's biggest operator of Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft. Meanwhile, Air India Express is the largest operator of Boeing 737 aircraft in India. Airline Boeing Airbus Air India Group 132 173 IndiGo 7 356 Akasa 30 0 SpiceJet 29 0 In contrast, IndiGo's fleet consists of 98% Airbus narrowbody aircraft, with nearly 213 A320s and 143 A321s. IndiGo is the largest operator of both the A320 and A321 aircraft in India. Indigo's dominance in the domestic Indian aviation market is evident with a market share of over 60%. As a result, Airbus aircraft account for more than 80% of the total domestic market, according to data from Cirium Diio from the last 12 months. In the international market, Boeing's market share rises to 44%, bolstered by strong widebody operations from Air India's fleet of Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft. Market - Latest 12 Months Airbus Boeing India - Domestic 81% 12% India - International 55% 44% Despite being the largest operator of Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft in India, Air India's entire narrowbody fleet consists of Airbus aircraft, totaling nearly 129 models from the A319, A320, and A321 families. This makes Airbus the larger carrier for both Air India and Indigo. Air India has also begun inducting new Airbus widebody aircraft (A350s) and has already started flights to London (LHR), New York (JFK), and Newark (EWR) from Delhi using these new jets. However, Boeing aircraft still account for nearly 90% of Air India's total long-haul capacity. Airline Airbus Boeing Air India 57% 43% IndiGo 98% 2% Of this capacity, Boeing 787 Dreamliners represent nearly 50%, playing a crucial role in Air India's long-haul strategy. According to Planespotters, the average age of Air India's Boeing 787 fleet was 9.6 years, whereas the average age of Air India's Boeing 777 fleet was 15 years. The importance of Boeing jets can't be understated for Air India's long-haul strategy. Combined with the 777, Boeing jets contribute nearly 90% of the total capacity for Air India. Besides Air India, 13 other airlines operate the Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft to and from India. Among these, UK-based British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have the most significant exposure to 787 operations, followed by KLM, based in Schiphol.
