Teenager Orfi ends Sivasangari's British Open run [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: S. Sivasangari's British Open campaign came to an end in the quarter-finals after she was beaten by Egypt's rising star Amina Orfi in Birmingham on Thursday.
The 17-year-old, making her debut in the prestigious event, stunned the world No. 9 Malaysian with a 11-2, 4-11, 11-7, 11-9 win in 59 minutes.
It was world No. 5 Amina's fourth win over Sivasangari in five meetings, underlining her growing dominance on the tour.
For Sivasangari, it was also her first appearance in the quarter-finals of the British Open.
Remarkably, the teenager had to miss her high school graduation to compete this week, but she showed maturity beyond her years to set up a semi-final clash with compatriot and world No. 1 Nouran Gohar.
Two-time champion Nouran eased past Belgium's world No. 5 Tinne Gilis 11-9, 11-7, 11-3 to reach the last four.
National coach Ajaz Azmat admitted that Sivasangari was outclassed in the opening game.
"She was overwhelmed by Amina's aggressive play early on and lost 11-2," said Ajaz.
"But she bounced back well to take the second game 11-4.
"The third and fourth games were closely contested, but she made errors at key moments."
Sivasangari's next major outing remains uncertain as she waits to find out if she qualifies for the season-ending World Tour Finals in Toronto from June 23-27.
Only the top eight in the men's and women's rankings will feature.
Should she make the cut, Sivasangari is expected to skip the Asian Championships in Kuching from June
17-27.

Sivasangari gets invite to 'elite party'
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's S. Sivasangari has qualified for her first PSA Squash Tour Finals — in Toronto, Canada from June 23-27. The elite event will feature the world's top eight men's and top eight women's players. The other women's players who will feature in the Tour Finals are world No. 1 Nouran Gohar, world No. 2 Nour El Sherbini, world No. 3 Hania El Hammamy (all from Egypt), world No. 4 Olivia Weaver (United States), world No. 5 Amina Orfi (Egypt), world No. 6 Tinne Gilis (Belgium) and world No. 7 Satomi Watanabe (Japan). Asian champion Sivasangari, who won the Cincinnati Open in February, will arrive in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow from Birmingham to discuss with the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia whether to play in the Asian Championships in Kuching (June 17-21) or PSA Tour Finals (June 23-27). It is impossible for Sivasangari to play in both the Asian meet and the PSA Tour Finals due to a clash of dates.

KUALA LUMPUR: Again, it was Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah's trademark that saved their day — their famed fighting spirit. he world No. 4 Malaysian pair made a spectacular comeback in the Indonesia Open semi-final in Jakarta today, battling from a game down to beat China's world No. 6 Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min 12-21, 21-17, 21-11. For that, they were rewarded with their first ever Super 1000 final in their careers. Pearly-Thinaah will meet either China's world No. 1 Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning or South Korean world No. 3 Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee in the title decider tomorrow. Despite playing their fourth consecutive World Tour tournament, the Malaysian duo refused to let weariness get in the way. The 65-minute battle was indeed a testament of the grit and maturity that Pearly-Thinaah are known for. "Words can't describe how happy we are today. At one game down, we didn't want to give up easily," said Thinaah. "Today, it was not just about strategy but mental and physical strength and I am really thankful that Pearly was by my side. She smashed a lot. "We just have to be relaxed and maintain our calm, which gives us strength, in the final tomorrow." The faster and younger Yi Jing (23) and Xup Min (22) set the pace to run away with a 21-12 win in the first game but Pearly, 25, and Thinaah, 27, began their customary fightback after that and ended the contest with a flourish.
