Review: The Violet Hour, at the DIG festival, is a real 'wow' show

Twilight…when tricks of the altering light can make you question what you see. Or what you think you see. This slippage between what's real, and what randomly exists in your mind's eye, is one of the fascinating undercurrents in Colette Sadler's latest dance-work, The Violet Hour, seen - for one night only - at this year's DIG.
Three dancers - Leah Marojevic, Samir Kennedy and Maëva Barthelot - bring Sadler's mesh of intriguing concepts before us with an unflagging devotion to detail that is simply astounding. At first, all three are 'marooned' on a narrow downstage dias - bodies close but, as yet, not touching. Marojevic is the first to step down and slowly test out the unknown terrain - a projection of an arid landscape at sunrise is the backdrop to her gradual discovery of how her own body behaves, stretching and balancing as the day fades into night.

Twilight star pushes back after being sued for $60K in allegedly unpaid rent
A Twilight star is being sued by his former landlord for months of unpaid rent. Cam Gigandet, 42, who played bad vampire James in Twilight with new dad Robert Pattison and Kirsten Stewart, allegedly owes $60,000 in for rent due between November 2023 and February 2024. A lawsuit filed my Ronald Goldhammer claims the Desert Dawn actor, 42, and his ex-wife Dominique Geisendorff leased the home from him, agreeing to pay $6,650 a month on a one-year lease, according to documents obtained by Goldhammer first claimed in a lawsuit filed in June 2024 that Gigandet, his wife and their three kids had lived in the house, during the disputed period, but had not paid him, and wanted them to pay-up or forfeit the lease. Goldhammer later amended his complaint claiming the couple, who have since divorced, moved out of the house in April 2024. Daily Mail has reached out to Gigandet's representatives for comment. The complaint reads, 'Defendants failed to pay the rent owed, but nevertheless, continued to occupy the [home].' In his response on May 15, Gigandet and his attorneys denied all allegations and said his actions were 'reasonable, lawful and in good faith.' Any damage Goldhammer claims took place on the property, the Love Hurts star's attorneys argued, were caused by a third party or parties, although they did not specify who that might be. '[Goldhammer's] claims are barred, in whole or in part, because the conduct of [Gigandet] was not a substantial factor in bringing about [Goldhammer's] alleged injuries and/or damages, if any, and therefore was not a contributing or proximate cause thereof.' In addition, his lawyer claimed, that his client 'is informed and believes and thereon alleges, he is excused from performance under the agreement alleged in the First Amended Complaint due to the acts, omissions, and/or material breaches of [Goldhammer] with respect to the matters and things alleged in the First Amended Complaint.' Gigandet and Geisendorff finalized their divorce in 2024 and their settlement provides an interesting look into the ups and downs of a journeyman actor such as Gigandet, who works steadily smaller budget projects, according to court papers obtained by He was awarded 100-percent interest in his business, a portion of his pension plan, his checking accounting with $6,380, another account with $280 and all earnings from the date of their separation, listed as May 1, 2022. The actor's former landlord claims he and his now ex-wife Dominique Geisendorff did not pay rent on the house they leased from him between November 2023 and February 2024; Pictured in Pasadena, CA in October 2009 The pair will share joint legal and physical custody of their three children; twins Everleigh and Armie, 16, and Rekker, 12. The Shrapnel star agreed to pay spousal support based on his income. MOVIE REVIEW: We see if 'It Feeds' satisfies horror fans' taste buds
Little originality on show but still works. on its own merits - just. It Feeds stars Twilight's Ashley Greene as clairvoyant Cynthia who is forced into action to protect her daughter Jordan (Ellie O'Brien) and young stranger Riley (Shayelin Martin) from an evil entity. Writer-director Chad Archibald's ( Bite, The Heretics) horror film somehow gets away with sharing DNA with the likes of Insidious to still work on its own merits - just. Cynthia's personal experience of traumatic loss drives her decision-making and for much of the movie all that matters to her is Jordan's safety and avoiding confrontation. But Jordan leaps into action to help Riley, especially after engaging with Riley's aggressive, secretive dad Randall (Shawn Ashmore). O'Brien's infectious and endearing selflessness drives the flick and Jordan's fate quickly intertwines with Riley's. Greene and Ashmore actually starred together in 2021's decent but inexplicably long thriller Aftermath and do a good job here as the main adults on show. Greene's character is clearly torn between doing the right thing and her family's self-preservation and despite using increasingly extreme measures, all Ashmore's Randall is out to do is also protect his daughter. I could've done without Juno Rinaldi's kooky Agatha, who only seems to exist to give Cynthia and Jordan a helping hand when the plot requires it, and would like to have seen more of the always offbeat and fascinating presence of Julian Richings ( Dr Whittaker). I was also torn between thinking the climactic showdown sequence was cool or dumb. It's very Insidious, with characters entering a dark world through their minds, but the visuals are immersive and the environment threatening. Quite why everyone ends up wearing goth-like clothing and is styled with eye-opening hair and make-up is pretty bizarre, though. It Feeds won't win any points for originality, however, Archibald's latest horror dishes out just enough scares, meaningful motivations and stirring shots to satisfy genre fans' taste buds. ● Pop me an email at and I will pass on any movie or TV show recommendations you have to your fellow readers.
