Can you use your old Switch controllers on Nintendo Switch 2?

Good news for Nintendo fans! Your existing Switch controllers, including Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers, will seamlessly work with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Gamers can also transfer game save data, system settings, and downloaded digital games. While most original Switch games will be compatible, some may require updates depending upon the nature. Whenever a shiny new console drops, the first thing on most gamers' minds, after the hype, of course, is this: "Will my current gear still work?" If you're also thinking about upgrading to the Nintendo Switch 2 but worried your current controllers will collect dust, then here's what you need to know! Yes, Your Switch Controllers Work with Switch 2 The Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro controllers are compatible with the Switch 2 (Image via Nintendo) If you already own a Nintendo Switch, your controllers, both Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller, will work with the new Nintendo Switch 2. That means you won't need to drop another $70–$95 on brand-new gear just to keep gaming. Whether you're playing local co-op with friends or just prefer your trusty old Joy-Cons, you can pair them wirelessly with the Switch 2 out of the box. No extra adapters or hoops to jump through. Save Data, Games, and More: The Ecosystem Lives On Nintendo has made it surprisingly seamless to transition from Switch 1 to Switch 2. Not only are your controllers compatible, but you can transfer: Game save data System settings Downloaded digital games (if supported) Nintendo Switch Online membership? That carries over too. So you'll still have access to online multiplayer, cloud saves, and classic game libraries without skipping a beat. How Well Do Old Controllers Work? Functionally, Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller work just as you'd expect. No weird latency. No mismapped buttons. They behave exactly like they did on your first Switch. That said, expect newer Nintendo Switch 2 games to support updated controllers with extra features, like enhanced haptics or better battery life, but the core experience remains intact with the originals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Will All Games Be Compatible? Mostly yes, but with a catch. The Switch 2 can play many physical and digital games released for the original Switch. But not all titles will run perfectly. Nintendo has acknowledged that some legacy games might not be fully compatible due to the Switch 2's updated hardware. They're working with developers and publishers to improve compatibility. Still, the vast majority of your existing library and controllers should work just fine. Should You Still Get New Controllers? If you're buying a Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time, your box may come with updated Joy-Cons (sometimes called Joy-Con 2s). These may include minor design tweaks or performance enhancements. But unless you're desperate for those upgrades, there's no urgent need to buy more controllers, especially if you already have extras at home. Nintendo made the smart move by keeping the Switch 2 compatible with original controllers. It's a win for long-time fans and budget-conscious players alike. You can dive into next-gen titles without rebuilding your entire accessory library. So, yes, keep your Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers. They've still got plenty of life left on the new console.
