Paris gives Beirut maps that can help demarcate border with Syria

Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji on Thursday met with French Ambassador to Lebanon Herve Magro, who handed him a copy of the documents and maps of the French archive that are related to the Lebanese-Syrian border, the French Ministry said.
The move comes 'at Lebanon's request and based on the promise that French President Emmanuel Macron had made to President Joseph Aoun during his latest visit to France,' the Ministry added.
These documents and maps will help Lebanon in 'the process of demarcating its land border with Syria,' the Ministry said.

The global community must intervene immediately.' President Aoun also met with his Iraqi counterpart who reiterated the Iraqi support for Lebanon, underlining the bilateral ties in the various domains. The Lebanese President also hailed the roadmap made by the Supreme Iraqi Cleric Imam Sayyed Ali Al-Sistani to consecrate reform, corruption fight and the centrality of the military decision. President Aoun had said upon arrival: 'Today, I accept the invitation of my brother, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Iraq, Abdul Latif Rashid, which I was honored to receive following our meeting in Cairo on the sidelines of the extraordinary Arab Summit. My visit to Iraq will be an opportunity to meet with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, a milestone that confirms the depth of the fraternal and historical relations between Lebanon and Iraq. On this visit, I carry with me deep feelings of appreciation for the Iraqi leadership and the brotherly Iraqi people, in appreciation for the continuous support and assistance they have provided to Lebanon, especially during these difficult times and hardships.' He continued: 'We highly value the Iraqi oil shipments, which have been a vital pillar of support for Lebanon, and we consider them a noble expression of sincere Arab brotherhood. 'I'm pleased to meet the invitation of my brother, His Excellency President of Iraq Abdul Latif Rashid, after we met in Cairo on the sidelines of the emergency Arab Summit,' Aoun said at Baghdad's airport, adding that he will also meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and that the visit 'reflects the depth of the historic brotherly ties between Lebanon and Iraq.' 'I'm confident that the talks I will hold today will emphasize the identical viewpoints between Lebanon and Iraq, especially as to deepening coordination and cooperation between them in all security fields, especially in the field of combating terrorism and extremism, based on our common belief that security and stability in our countries are linked, and that confronting security challenges requires the rallying of efforts and the exchange of expertise and information,' the president added.
