Dolton police investigate shooting death near park, homicide reported in Matteson
Dolton police said Friday they are continuing to investigate the recent shooting death of a Chicago man near a village park, while authorities also reported a homicide in Matteson.
A Dolton spokeswoman said officers were dispatched to the area of 147th Street and Evers Avenue following reports of a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival, two gunshot victims were located, and one was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the spokeswoman. Police said the shooting appears to have been isolated.
The Cook County medical examiner's office reported the deceased shooting victim was 24-year-old Contrail Boone, of the 200 block of East 121st Place, Chicago.
He was pronounced dead at 9:43 p.m. May 17 at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, according to the medical examiner's office.
Boone had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homcide, the office said.
The location where the shooting took place is near the Dolton Park District's Lester Long Fieldhouse, where Village Board meetings are held.
In Matteson, the medical examiner's office reported the shooting death May 18 of Denard Allison, 37, of the 700 block of Notre Dame Drive.
He was shot multiple times and it was not clear whether the shooting took place inside or outside his home. A message left with Matteson police seeking additional information was not returned.
Allison was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m. May 18 at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital, and his death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner's office.

Union head Tony Clark, MLBPA hire separate lawyers in face of federal probe
In the face of a federal investigation, Tony Clark and the union he runs, the Major League Baseball Players Association, have hired separate lawyers. The Eastern District of New York is reviewing whether MLBPA officials used licensing money or equity to improperly enrich themselves, according to people briefed on the investigation who were not authorized to speak publicly. That could put the union and its membership in a place where they have divergent interests. Advertisement 'In close coordination with the players, MLBPA has hired outside counsel at Morrison & Foerster to respond to an investigation conducted by the Department of Justice,' the MLPBA said in a statement Tuesday. 'The MLBPA has, and will continue to, fully cooperate with law enforcement during this investigation.' Clark's outside counsel, Daniel Collins of Katten, Muchin and Rosenman, declined comment. The Eastern District of New York declined comment as well. The full scope of the probe is unclear, but investigators have also communicated with the National Football League's players' union and a licensing company co-founded by both unions, OneTeam Partners, the people briefed on the investigation said. In a statement it first issued last week, OneTeam positioned itself outside of investigators' crosshairs. 'We are aware of an ongoing investigation of allegations concerning our partners,' OneTeam said. 'We want to emphasize that OneTeam is not the subject of the investigation and has not been accused of any wrongdoing in any way. OneTeam is fully committed to cooperating with the investigation and remains steadfast in our commitment to following the best business practices, as has already been determined by the independent audit conducted earlier this year.' The NFLPA declined comment on Tuesday and said last week it would cooperate with investigators. The MLBPA co-founded OneTeam, a company that specializes in athletes' name, image and likeness rights, in 2019 alongside other sports unions and backers. Last year, an anonymous complaint was filed with the National Labor Relations Board alleging that Clark had wrongly received equity in OTP. The MLBPA has previously called that allegation 'baseless.' A similar concern, however, arose in football. The NFLPA in December hired the firm Linklaters to review, in part, whether OneTeam had improperly granted equity, said people briefed on that process who were not authorized to speak publicly. The NFLPA did not disclose its findings publicly, but Lloyd Howell, the head of the union, in March notified OneTeam's board of directors that Linklater's report found the NFLPA and OneTeam had been in compliance, per an email reviewed by The Athletic. Advertisement Collins, Clark's attorney, is a former federal prosecutor who 'regularly defends clients in investigations conducted by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and other government agencies,' per his firm's website. Clark and Howell both sit on the board of directors at OneTeam. Two other MLBPA officials and three other NFLPA officials do as well, per the company's website. The MLBPA reported $44.5 million in revenue from OneTeam in 2024, per a filing with the Department of Labor. (AP Photo / Godofredo Vásquez )

Pair pepper-sprayed employees, robbed downtown Chicago nail salons after receiving services
A couple who had just received hundreds of dollars in spa services was recently caught on video attacking and stealing from nail salon employees in downtown Chicago. Chicago Police have issued a warning to downtown businesses to stay alert after another similar incident days later. Nail salons rely on walk-ins. Yet when a man and woman came to get services on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 28, the owner of the Pure Rain Nail Spa, at 437 S. Dearborn St., said it felt like something was off. And it turned out something was indeed off — after three hours of full services, the couple pulled out pepper spray and ripped off employees instead of paying. There were screams of fear and pain as two employees of the nail spa tried to get the burning sensation out of their eyes. "They were screaming and screaming, and I was panicked," said Pure Rain Nail Spa owner Nadiy Nadmid. Video showed the man and woman attacking the salon workers with pepper spray before robbing them and leaving the business. Nadmid said the man and woman both got their feet and toes done. "Almost $200 for service, and they had been there almost three hours," she said. Yet during the services, video shows the man pacing through the salon. At one point, an employee realized her cellphone was missing. "She called her cellphone from the salon cellphone, and then it's ringing in the guy's bag," Nadmid said. The man claimed he accidentally picked up the employee's phone, so the employees snapped the images of the man and woman — thinking they might be trouble. But the employees never imagined it would get physical. When it came time to pay, police said the pair sprayed pepper spray and stole purses. "I just wanted to make sure people should be aware of this incident, like us," said Nadmid, "and that's why I'm releasing this video and pictures." Pure Rain has operated from its location on Dearborn Street off Ida B. Wells Drive for 15 years. The owners say they have never seen anything like the robbery before. But it turned out that days later, Chicago police said the same pair walked into OMG Nails & Spa, at 1620 S. Michigan Ave. in the South Loop, and did the very same thing. Police said on Sunday, June 1, they got services and then assaulted and robbed employees. Police said the man in the criminal duo stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 160 to 180 pounds, and his right hand is wrapped or bruised. The woman stands about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 220 to 240 pounds, and has a tattoo over her cheek. The CPD said posing as paying customers allows the employees to let their guard down. "I just hope they should understand we're trying our best, and everything to provide safety to our employees and customers," said Nadmid. As police search for the pair, the owner wants every salon in the area to be on the lookout before they strike again. "I hope they get arrested soon as possible," said Nadmid. Nadmid also said she is considering getting a security guard. Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to call Belmont Area detectives at 312-744-8263, or submit an anonymous tip to and use reference #25-3-025.

Boy shot, wounded near community center in Matteson, Illinois
A boy was shot and wounded Tuesday afternoon near a community center in the south Chicago suburb of Matteson. At 4:22 p.m., police and paramedics were called to the Matteson Community Center, at 20642 Matteson Ave., for a person shot. They found a boy of an unspecified age, but described as a juvenile, inside the community center with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The boy was rushed to the emergency room. Matteson police investigators learned there had been a fight between the boy and another person outside the community center that led to the shooting, police said. The shooting took place outside the community center, police said. The shooter ran off on foot, while the victim entered the community center seeking assistance, police said. The suspected shooter was taken into custody about two hours later in Richton Park after a brief pursuit, police said. Investigators are working with community center staff to review surveillance video, and the community center was closed for the investigation. It was expected to reopen in the morning. Police do not believe the community is in danger.
