
'Tan Sri' arrested in Ponzi-linked money laundering probe taken to office, home
BAYAN LEPAS: The 'Tan Sri' who was detained in Penang on suspicion of being involved in money laundering linked to a Ponzi investment scheme in a neighbouring country was brought to his office in Jalan Mahsuri, Bayan Baru, yesterday.
The 53-year-old suspect was escorted by police in a vehicle and was seen arriving at the premises of his office at 4.20pm.
It is understood that the suspect was brought to the office for the purpose of inspecting the premises and related documents.
The suspect, who was seen wearing an orange lock-up outfit, was later taken out of his office at 6.05pm.
He was also reportedly taken to his home in Gelugor, near here, for a similar purpose, including asset seizure.
Meanwhile, Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) acting director, Datuk Muhammed Hasbullah Ali confirmed that the suspect was taken to both his company and residence to assist in the investigation.
"The investigation is still ongoing and a press conference will be held later regarding this latest arrest and the progress of the Op Northern Star probe," he said when contacted.
It was reported that another individual with the title 'Tan Sri' was arrested by police on suspicion of being involved in money laundering linked to an investment scheme known as MBI.

[UPDATED] MACC records Tan Sri's statement over highway sukuk funds misappropriation
KUALA LUMPUR: Graft busters have recorded a statement from the Tan Sri at the centre of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway. Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said two MACC officers took the statement at the Tan Sri's residence here. Azam said that the entire process took place between 9am and 3pm today, and was expected to resume tomorrow due to the Tan Sri's health condition. "To date, MACC has recorded statements from 51 individuals, including the Tan Sri and his family." According to a source, a raid was also conducted at the Tan Sri's residence at Melaka, but no seizures or confiscations were made. It was reported on June 7 that the Tan Sri had been admitted to hospital for medical treatment. MACC had previously obtained confirmation from his doctor before proceeding with questioning. MACC has so far seized RM143 million in connection with the alleged fund misuse. It was reported earlier that MACC investigators are tracking the Tan Sri's luxury vehicles and properties in Malaysia and abroad, including assets in London and Switzerland. The probe also covers the true value of the luxury alcoholic beverages reportedly in his possession. A notice of asset declaration has been served to the Tan Sri and other related parties. To date, seizures include 14 personal bank accounts totalling RM4.5 million; eight company accounts worth RM33 million; a luxury condominium and a plot of land valued at RM24.5 million; nine vehicles worth RM7.65 million; luxury watches worth RM25 million; designer handbags worth RM3 million; jewellery and diamonds worth RM6 million; four horses worth RM400,000; alcoholic beverages worth RM3 million; overseas assets valued at over RM15 million; and gambling-related activities estimated at RM20 million.

MACC to continue grilling ‘Tan Sri' in sukuk funds probe

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today spent six hours recording a statement from a 'Tan Sri' in its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds for the construction of a highway. MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said today's session lasted from 9am to 3pm, and will resume tomorrow, Bernama reported. He said the statement was recorded at the residence of the 'Tan Sri' in Kuala Lumpur because of health issues. 'So far, MACC has recorded statements from 52 witnesses, including the 'Tan Sri' and his family members. The same process will continue tomorrow,' he was quoted as saying. It was also reported that MACC officers visited the 'Tan Sri's' house in Melaka, but they did not seize anything during the operation. Previously, MACC seized RM32 million worth of assets, including luxury vehicles, watches, handbags, jewellery, cash and a high-end property, believed to be linked to a highway concessionaire with the same title.
