Trump Announces Plans To Visit Saudi Arabia

Gulf Insider07-03-2025

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he plans to travel to Saudi Arabia in the next month and a half, according to news agencies.
Trump has said he expects to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saudi Arabia at some point, but did not say whether he would during the upcoming trip.
After being sworn in, Trump's first call with a foreign leader was to Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
During his first term, Trump broke with tradition and made Saudi Arabia his first stop.
The Crown Prince recently said that his country has many things to discuss with the United States on the level of bilateral relations, as well as for the region, and in many areas.
He made the remarks during his meeting with the new US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Riyadh on Feb. 17 on the eve of talks on Ukraine.
On February 20, President Trump thanked Prince Mohammed bin Salman for making Riyadh the venue for US-Russian talks, describing Saudi Arabia as a 'special place with special leaders.'
During the opening of the FII Priority summit in Miami last month, Trump stressed that the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which were held in Riyadh, represent an important development on the path to ending the war.
'I would like to thank Saudi Arabia for hosting this historic summit, but in particular, we must thank Prince Mohammed bin Salman for hosting these historic talks that went very well,' he added.

Trump may get rid of his Tesla after Musk row: official

Trump may get rid of his Tesla after Musk row: official Washington, United States Donald Trump may now offload a Tesla he said he bought earlier this year in a show of support for Elon Musk, a White House official said yesterday, following a blazing row between the US president and his billionaire former advisor. The red electric vehicle, which retails for around $80,000, was still in a parking lot on the White House grounds on Friday, an AFP reporter said, a day after the very public meltdown between Trump and the South African-born tech tycoon. "He's thinking about it, yes," a senior White House official told AFP when asked if the Republican would sell or give away the Tesla. Tesla stocks had tanked more than 14 percent on Thursday amid the row, losing some $100 billion of the company's market value, but leapt back in early trading Friday. Trump, who does not drive as a president, said he was buying the Tesla in March to boost support for his mega-donor, whose brand -- and bottom line -- has been hit hard by public outrage over his role in slashing US government jobs. At a choreographed publicity stunt that turned the White House into a pop-up Tesla showroom, Trump praised the EV as a "great product" and lashed out on social media at "Radical Left" attacks against the world's richest person and his company. Trump's Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and another senior aide posed in the car as recently as last week, in a photograph posted on Musk's social media network X. "Taking President Trump's Tesla out for a ride," Trump's communications advisor Margo Martin posted. But the shiny red vehicle has now become an awkward symbol of the fiery political divorce between Trump, 78, and former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Musk, 53. Trump said he was "very disappointed" by Musk and threatened to end his government contracts after his ex-aide criticized the president's flagship budget and policy mega-bill as an "abomination."

Feud with Trump Sparks Elon Musk's Bold Move — A New Political Party?

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has publicly floated the idea of launching a new political party in the United States, responding to growing dissatisfaction with the traditional two-party system and following a recent public feud with former President Donald Trump. On Thursday, Musk posted a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking users whether America needed a new political party. The results, revealed on Friday, showed that 80% of respondents supported the idea. Reacting to the poll, Musk declared, 'The people have spoken. A new political party is needed in America to represent the 80% in the middle! And exactly 80% of people agree. This is fate.' He also announced the name of the prospective political movement: The America Party. Context of the Feud with Trump The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Musk and Donald Trump. Musk, who had publicly backed Trump in the November 2024 presidential election, has recently criticized the former president's proposed 'Big Beautiful' spending bill, labeling it an 'abomination.' In retaliation, Trump expressed his disappointment with Musk during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and threatened to cancel all federal contracts awarded to Musk's companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. Musk responded provocatively, claiming Trump would not have won the election without his support and accusing Trump of 'ingratitude.' At one point, Musk threatened to decommission SpaceX's Falcon rockets in response to Trump's threats, though he later withdrew this statement. Musk also alleged that Trump's name appears in the so-called 'Epstein files,' implying a controversial reason behind the lack of public disclosure. Political Landscape and Challenges Ahead Musk's proposal to create The America Party aims to challenge the dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties, which have ruled U.S. politics for over a century. While the U.S. Constitution does not prohibit third parties, the last time a non-traditional party candidate won the presidency was in 1850, making the path forward highly challenging. Political analysts say Musk's immense public profile and influence could bring significant attention to the new party. However, building a viable political organization capable of winning elections requires grassroots support, strong leadership, and a clear platform—elements that remain to be seen. What's Next? Elon Musk's announcement has sparked intense debate across social media and political circles. Supporters argue that America needs fresh alternatives to represent moderate voters, while critics question whether a billionaire entrepreneur with no political experience can effectively reshape the country's political system. As the idea of The America Party takes shape, all eyes will be on Musk to see if he can turn this bold vision into a reality or if it remains a symbolic protest against the existing political status quo.

Russia Launches Deadly Barrage on Kyiv Following Deep-Strike Drone Attacks

Russia unleashed a wave of missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's capital in the early hours of Friday, killing at least six people and sending powerful shockwaves across the country, according to Ukrainian officials. The pre-dawn assault, described as one of the most intense in recent months, lit up the Kyiv skyline with a series of loud explosions as air raid sirens blared across the city. Emergency crews scrambled through the rubble in multiple districts as authorities confirmed casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure. The strikes come in the wake of a dramatic escalation in cross-border hostilities, triggered by recent Ukrainian drone attacks that reportedly destroyed several Russian strategic bombers stationed deep inside Russian territory. In a pointed response, Russian President Vladimir Putin, through messages relayed via former U.S. President Donald Trump, warned of severe retaliation — a warning that now appears to have materialized. 'This was a calculated and devastating response,' said a senior Ukrainian military official. 'It underscores the growing risks of escalation as Ukrainian forces continue to take the fight closer to the Russian heartland.' Ukraine's air defense systems managed to intercept a number of incoming threats, but officials admitted that several drones and missiles slipped through, striking both residential and strategic areas.
