Apple has made a lot of changes to the iPad over the years, but iPadOS 26 might be one of the most important updates yet. The new software brings a more desktop-like experience to the iPad, and according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, it could be the perfect time for Apple to introduce a larger model — possibly a long-rumored 15-inch iPad. One of the biggest improvements in iPadOS 26 is the new multitasking system. Apple has replaced the Stage Manager feature with a more flexible and user-friendly way to manage multiple windows. You can now freely move apps around, resize them more smoothly, and use new toggles to tile windows side by side. A new Exposé mode shows all open apps at once, and there's even a Mac-style menu bar to help you navigate. Past versions of iPadOS tried to bring desktop features to the iPad without going too far. But now, Apple seems more comfortable letting the iPad compete directly with the Mac — and the software feels more mature because of it. That shift could open the door to a larger iPad. Right now, the biggest model is the 13-inch iPad Pro. But if Apple really wants to make the most of these new multitasking tools, a 15-inch version could make a lot of sense. It would give users more space to work and offer a better fit for the new windowing features. Gurman reports that the company is working toward a future where iPads and Macs share many of the same design elements and apps. The main difference would be how users interact with them: touch on iPads, keyboards and trackpads on Macs. He also says Apple is planning a 19-inch foldable device for 2028 that would combine elements of both. Of course, releasing a larger iPad won't be enough on its own. Apple still needs to get developers to update their apps for bigger screens and make sure the iPad remains a strong option for both casual and professional users. But with iPadOS 26 finally bringing a more complete multitasking experience, the idea of a 15-inch iPad is no longer just a rumor — it might be the missing piece. I am personally looking forward to this future, iPadOS 26 already feels completely different using it with the new windowing system and having a larger 15" model, would definitely take that experience to that next level.

Market analysts report that people have been upgrading their tablets recently. You can grab a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ with a 12.4' 120Hz OLED display and a bundled S Pen. This slate is powered by the Dimensity 9300+ and has expandable storage, plus a 10,090mAh battery with 45W charging. The tablet is dust and water resistant with an IP68 rating. The FE series are a cheaper option for those that don't need flagship performance – or those that prefer an LCD. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE and Tab S10 FE+ have 10.9' and 13.1' IPS LCDs, respectively, both with 90Hz refresh rate. These slates are powered by the Exynos 1580 plus an 8,000mAh or 10,090mAh batteries. These two also come bundled with an S Pen. The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are comfy, have good audio quality and improved active noise cancellation (ANC) compared to the originals. Apple's head of AI likely not long for Cupertino following WWDC
This year's WWDC ( Worldwide Developers Conference ) event had one person curiously missing from the show: John Giannandrea, head of AI at Apple. Industry insider Mark Gurman — in today's edition of his newsletter Power On — shares his fears that Giannandrea might not be long for Cupertino. Apple's AI failure exposed many internal happenings at the company, including the fact that Giannandrea has always felt like an outsider. His approach to AI has also remained quite different from other Apple executives, and he was recently demoted after Apple Intelligence had failed to improve. However, at last year's WWDC event, Apple's head of AI was very much present and even participated in a few interviews. WWDC 2024 was also the event where the company had proudly shown off upcoming Apple Intelligence features, which were nowhere near ready for launch. These features — in particular the hotly anticipated revamped Siri digital assistant — are still incomplete and missing. This year, Apple took the much more cautious approach. Apple executive Craig Federighi made a small mention of how the company's AI still needed a little more time to be perfected. Most of the event was instead spent showcasing the stunning new Liquid Glass overhaul for iOS 26 and other operating systems. Whether this is because Apple thought that he wouldn't have much to add, or whether because the company has lost faith in him, is unclear. Gurman believes that Giannandrea's absence from WWDC may be a clear sign that he won't be around at Apple for long. Giannandrea previously worked at Google, and served as the Chief of Search and Artificial Intelligence. His work was indispensable, part of why Apple hired him in the first place. Unfortunately, he just never felt at home in the company, and it's shown with how Apple Intelligence has been handled. Other Apple executives, like Craig Federighi , also delayed the company's foray into AI because they believed it wouldn't be as important as it turned out to be. Federighi only really saw the potential of AI after he used OpenAI's ChatGPT to help code a small personal project for him. The entire Apple Intelligence ordeal has been a disappointment for many, but if Giannandrea is let go, he'll hopefully find another lucrative offer soon after.
