LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, February 19, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Propstore, one of the world's leading entertainment memorabilia auction houses, is set to unveil an extraordinary selection of film-used Star Wars collectibles at its upcoming Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction in Los Angeles, taking place across three days from March 26 – 28, 2025.
Two standout lots are expected to generate major excitement: Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) Medal of Yavin from Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) and Chewbacca's (Peter Mayhew) Bowcaster, featured in all three films from the Star Wars Original Trilogy.
An incredibly significant Star Wars prop, Luke Skywalker's (Mark Hamill) screen-matched Medal of Yavin from A New Hope (1977) is a symbol of the Rebel Alliance's victory over the Empire. Presented by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in the film's iconic finale, this medal appears in one of cinema's most memorable moments, set to John Williams' The Throne Room march.
Only two medals are believed to have been made for the film; this medal was seen worn by Hamill in the film itself, but was also worn by Harrison Ford in behind-the-scenes photos taken during rehearsals. The first and only medal to be offered for public sale, it originates from the collection of Gerard Bourke, who worked on the original Star Wars films. This rare hero prop is estimated between $300,000 and $600,000 and is expected to be one of the auction's most sought-after lots.
Another showstopper is Chewbacca's Bowcaster, wielded by Peter Mayhew's beloved Wookiee warrior in all three films of the original Star Wars trilogy - George Lucas' A New Hope (1977), Irvin Kershner's The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Richard Marquand's Return of the Jedi (1983) - as well as in iconic publicity photos of the character.
The Bowcaster was built around a real-world Horton crossbow, modified with custom components and detailed dressing to give it a futuristic yet battle-worn look. This particular prop is believed to be the only Bowcaster used throughout the trilogy, with no evidence of a backup version, making it one of the rarest Star Wars hero props in existence. The Bowcaster had some of its dressing components removed after filming but retains key original elements, including its unique shoulder stock extension, which was custom-fabricated for Peter Mayhew during the filming of Return of the Jedi (1983). The piece also photo-matches to production stills from each of the original trilogy films. It has been sympathetically restored to its Return of the Jedi (1983) configuration, with the missing dressing components faithfully recreated. With its unmistakable silhouette and deep connection to one of Star Wars' most beloved characters, this photo-matched piece is expected to be a major highlight of the auction, with an estimated value of $250,000 to $500,000.

Meta Looks for Exclusive Hollywood Content for its New Headset, WSJ
Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) is negotiating exclusive immersive content for its future premium virtual reality headgear, internally named "Loma," with Disney, A24, and other companies. The device, which is set to be released next year, will cost less than $1,000 and look like giant eyeglasses attached to a pocket-sized puck. To compete with Apple's $3,500 Vision Pro, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) is paying millions for VR-only versions of popular IPs. Loma intends to combine immersive video with portability and will have higher-fidelity images than current Meta Quest devices. Disney and James Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment have previously teamed up with Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:META) to create a Star Wars virtual reality experience. While allowing content to be monetized later on other platforms, the business is giving priority to time-limited VR exclusivity. In 2024, Meta Platforms, Inc. Alien: Ridley Scott Addresses if He'll Ever Make Another Sequel
Ridley Scott is opening up about whether or not he'll ever do another movie. Scott directed Alien in 1979. While that was followed by a handful of sequels, Scott didn't direct another entry in the franchise until 2012's Prometheus, which was then followed by 2017's Alien: Covenant. He also served as a producer on the most recent Alien film, 2024's Alien: Romulus, and as an executive producer on the forthcoming Alien: Earth television show. Speaking with ScreenRant, Scott discussed the history of the franchise and if he might be involved with any other related projects further down the line. 'I think I felt [the franchise] was deadened after 4,' Scott said. 'I think mine was pretty damn good, and I think Jim's was good, and I have to say the rest were not very good. And I thought, 'F—, that's the end of a franchise which should be as important as bloody Star Trek or Star Wars,' which I think is phenomenal. At least, I think the first one by George is seminal – it was as seminal as 2001. To me, it was that important in terms of film language and where you go next. From George's [Star Wars], I was then offered, almost a year after, Alien. '…A number of years after, I said, 'I'm going to resurrect this,' [and wrote] Prometheus from scratch–a blank sheet of paper. Damon Lindelof and I sat then hammered out Prometheus. It was very present and very welcome. The audience really wanted more. I said, 'It needs to fly.' No one was coming for it, [and] I went once again [and made] Alien Covenant, and it worked too.' Scott added, 'Where it's going now, I think I've done enough, and I just hope it goes further.' In addition to Alien: Earth, a direct sequel to Alien: Romulus is also in development, though details regarding that project remain under wraps at this time. Scott's next film, meanwhile, will be The Dog Stars with Jacob Elordi, which releases in March 2026.
