New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs clarified India's position on importing crude oil from Iran on thursday, stating that energy purchases are based on 'market factors and the prevailing global situation.'
'Our energy requirements, or the energy purchases we make, are based on market factors and the prevailing global situation,' MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in THEIR weekly briefing.
Further, the Ministry also expressed deep concerns about the situation in West Asia, including the Israeli attacks on nuclear scientists and certain universities in Iran.
In response to a question about targeting science students and scientists, the MEA spokesperson emphasised India's commitment to peace and diplomacy.
'As you would have seen in our statement earlier as well, we expressed deep concerns about the recent escalation of the situation in West Asia, including the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities. Subsequently, we have welcomed the ceasefire, as you would have seen,' Jaiswal stated.
The MEA spokesperson noted that India is closely monitoring updates from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding the radiation levels at the affected sites. 'India is closely following updates from the IAEA about the radiation levels in the affected sites,' the spokesperson said.
'We have noted that so far, IAEA has reported that the targeted facilities either confirmed no nuclear material or small quantities of natural or low-enriched uranium, and that radioactive contamination has been limited to the buildings affected by the strikes. We urge a return to the path of dialogue and diplomacy for an early restoration of regional peace, security, and stability,' Jaiswal affirmed. (ANI)

"Very Big One": Donald Trump Hints At "Great" Trade Deal With India

New Delhi: US President Donald Trump on Thursday hinted at a "very big" trade deal with India, weeks after a team of negotiators from the two countries held four-day closed-door talks on the agreement. Addressing the 'Big Beautiful Event' at the White House, Trump said he has a "great deal" with India. "Everybody wants to make a deal and have a part of it. Remember a few months ago, the press was saying, 'You really have anybody of any interest? Well, we just signed with China yesterday. We are having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India. Very big one," he said. #WATCH | "...We just signed (trade deal) with China. We're not going to make deals with everybody... But we're having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India, a very big one. We're going to open up India. In the China deal, we're starting to open up China.… — ANI (@ANI) June 26, 2025 Trump also asserted that the US will not make trade deals with every other nation. "We're not going to make deals with everybody. Some we are just going to send them a letter, say thank you very much. You are to pay 25, 35, 45 per cent. That's the easy way to do it, and my people don't want to do it that way. They want to do some of it, but they want to make more deals than I would do," he said. The four-day talks over the mega trade deal had reportedly primarily focused on greater market access for both industrial and agricultural products in either country, tariff cuts, and non-tariff barriers, people familiar with the matter said. While the US delegation was led by officials from the Office of the US Trade Representative, the Indian team of negotiators from the trade ministry was led by Rajesh Agrawal. Negotiations for the agreement reportedly aimed to take the annual bilateral trade between the two countries from the current $190 billion to a massive $500 billion by 2030. As the talks concluded on June 10, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India and the US were in the process of negotiating a fair and equitable trade agreement that will benefit both economies. "PM Modi and US President Trump met in February our leaders have decided to enter into a bilateral trade agreement which will be mutually beneficial for both the economies, businesses on both sides and the people of both countries. We are negotiating to make a nice, fair, equitable, and balanced agreement to promote business," he had said. Earlier this month, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick also said that a trade deal between India and the United States could be finalised soon, with both countries finding common ground that suits their interests. Us-China trade deal Trump, while addressing the 'Big Beautiful Bill' event, also mentioned that he had already signed a trade deal with China on Wednesday. While he did not elaborate on the details of the agreement, a White House official confirmed that the deal is focused on expediting rare earth shipments from China to the US. The two sides also reportedly agreed to an additional understanding for a framework to implement the Geneva agreement. The pact comes after escalating tensions between the US and China that had led to a virtual halt in bilateral trade.

Trump hints at

Washington, DC [US], June 27 (ANI): US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (US local time) that America has signed a deal with China and hinted that a 'very big' deal with India will follow soon. Trump made the remarks while speaking at the Big Beautiful Bill event. In his speech hinting towards trade deals, Trump said, 'Everybody wants to make a deal and have a part of it. Remember a few months ago, the press was saying, 'You really have anybody of any interest? Well, we just signed with China yesterday. We are having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India. Very big one. Where we're going to open up India, in the China deal, we are starting to open up China.' Trump asserted that deals will not be made with every other nation. 'We're not going to make deals with everybody. Some we are just going to send them a letter, say thank you very much. You are to pay 25, 35, 45 per cent. That's the easy way to do it, and my people don't want to do it that way. They want to do some of it, but they want to make more deals than I would do,' he said. 'But we're having some great deals. We have one coming up, maybe with India. Very big one. Where we're going to open up India, in the China deal, we're starting to open up China. Things that never really could have happened, and the relationship with every country has been very good.' However, Trump did not elaborate on the details of the deal signed with China. Earlier in June, CNN reported that the United States and China reached a new trade agreement, reviving terms first agreed to in Geneva last month, after escalating tensions led to a virtual halt in bilateral trade. The trade truce had brought temporary relief to global markets, businesses, and consumers rattled by months of tariff hikes and growing uncertainty. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social previously that the 'deal' was complete, confirming that both countries would ease export restrictions. 'Our deal with China is done,' Trump posted in all-caps, stating that China would supply 'full magnets, and any necessary rare front,' as per the Geneva framework. Earlier this month, while speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said that a trade deal between India and the United States could be finalised soon, with both countries finding common ground that suits their interests. 'I think to be in a very, very good place, and you should expect a deal between the United States and India in the not-too-distant future because I think we found a place that really works for both countries.' When asked if he was hopeful about the outcome, Lutnick said he was 'very optimistic,' and added, 'It could be sort of the way I come across,' he said. Meanwhile, on June 10, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India and the US were in the process of negotiating a fair and equitable trade agreement that will benefit both economies. Addressing a press conference over India-US trade deal and Future trade agreement with the European Union, Piyush Goyal said, 'PM Narendra Modi and US President Trump met in February our leaders have decided to enter into a bilateral trade agreement which will be mutually beneficial for both the economies, businesses on both sides and the people of both countries. We are negotiating to make a nice, fair, equitable and balanced agreement to promote business.' Highlighting that both America and India are 'very close friends, allies and strategic partners', Piyush Goyal said that the trade deal is an opportunity to expand bilateral trade and strengthen the partnership between the two nations. The Rath Yatra of Shri Jagannath Ji is a unique confluence of faith and devotion, which teaches us that moving forward while cherishing devotion, culture, and heritage is at the core of our being. The Rath Yatra ceremony is expected to attract a large crowd, making traffic management a key issue. (ANI)
