Elon Musk turned up at the White House with a black eye on Friday. The Tesla and SpaceX boss said it wasn't from politics, or a fall, or even France. 'We were horsing around, and I said, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face.' And he did,' Musk told reporters, chuckling. He was referring to his son, X, who is five.Donald Trump, seated next to him in the Oval Office, jumped in: 'That was X that did that? …X could do it. If you knew X.'Musk explained that he didn't feel much pain at the time, but the bruise showed up later. When first asked about the injury, he deflected with a joke: 'I wasn't anywhere near France,' referencing the viral rumour involving French President Emmanuel Macron's wife. But while the exchange was light-hearted, the context was far from it.Earlier the same day, The New York Times published a detailed report alleging that Musk had been using ketamine in amounts that raised serious concerns. Musk had previously acknowledged using the drug under prescription. The timing of the article—just before the joint White House event—amplified scrutiny.During the press event, Musk was asked directly about the article. He didn't answer the question head-on. Instead, he took aim at the media outlet.'New York Times, is that the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on Russiagate? Is it the same organization? I think it is!' Musk said. He continued, 'I think the judge just ruled against New York Times for their lies about the Russiagate hoax and that they might have to give back that Pulitzer Prize.'The remarks drew attention but didn't provide clarity. On social media, speculation surged. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: 'Yoo did Elon Musk get straight up punched in the face? That's a left hook black eye if I've ever seen one. Might explain his delayed talk?'The press conference was meant to mark the end of Musk's stint as a 'special government employee.' For about four months, he had led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a role created to cut federal spending.Trump praised him: 'Elon's service to America has been without comparison in modern history.' He handed Musk a golden key bearing the White House seal as a parting gift.Though Musk promised $1 trillion in savings, that goal remained out of reach. Still, the role gave him sway in reshaping several federal agencies. His influence also extended to key appointments: allies of Musk now lead NASA and the Air Force, both crucial partners for SpaceX.Even as the bond between Trump and Musk cooled in recent months, the president made a show of unity. 'One of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced,' Trump called him.Musk said his departure was due to the legal limit of 130 days for such temporary roles. But signs of a growing rift with Trump had already emerged. He recently voiced displeasure over the administration's tariffs and criticised its domestic policy bill, saying it would worsen the deficit. Now, Musk says he plans to refocus on his private ventures. 'I hope to continue to be a friend and adviser to the president,' he added. His time in Washington may be over, but the headlines, the controversy, and the bruises—both literal and political—seem far from finished.

Donald Trump's proposed budget cuts 90 per cent funding. Shocking details here

The Trump administration's proposed budget for 2026 slashes about 90 per cent of the funding for one of the country's cornerstone biological and ecological research programs. Known as the Ecosystems Mission Area, the program is part of the U.S. Geological Survey and studies nearly every aspect of the ecology and biology of natural and human-altered landscapes and waters around the country, as per a report. The 2026 proposed budget allocates $29 million for the project, a cut from its current funding level of $293 million. The budget proposal also reduces funds for other programs in the USGS, as well as other federal science agencies, NYT News Service reported. The budget still needs to be approved by Congress and scientists are seizing the opportunity to save the EMA. In early May, more than 70 scientific societies and universities signed a letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, urging him not to eliminate the program. Abolishing the EMA was an explicit goal of Project 2025, the blueprint for shrinking the federal government produced by the conservative Heritage Foundation. That work cited decades-long struggles over the Interior Department's land management in the West, where protections for endangered species have at times prevented development, drilling and mining. The EMA is also a core part of federal climate research. The Trump administration has sharply reduced or eliminated funds for climate science across federal agencies, calling the study of climate change part of "social agenda" research in an earlier version of the budget proposal. Live Events "It's appalling," said Peter Groffman, an ecosystems ecologist at the City University of New York and a leader of the Ecological Society of America. "This is a division that does very important work, and does it very well," Groffman said. Universities and other institutions are unlikely to be able to carry on the work, he said. There are no immediately apparent plans from the administration to transfer EMA research to other federal agencies. The EMA runs dozens of biology and climate science centers, cooperates with universities in 41 states to identify and carry out pressing ecology and environmental health research, and more. Here is a snapshot of its work. FAQs Q1. What does proposed US Budget 2026 state? A1. The 2026 proposed budget allocates $29 million for the project, a cut from its current funding level of $293 million. Q2. What is full form of USGS? A2. The full form of USGS is United States Geological Survey.

The number of migrants reaching the UK in small boats in a single day hits a 2025 high

U.K. government figures Sunday showed that more than 1,100 migrants arrived in the country on Saturday in small boats from France across the English Channel, the highest number recorded on a single day so far this year. The latest Home Office figures show that 1,194 migrants arrived in 18 boats on Saturday in what were settled weather conditions, bringing the provisional annual total so far to 14,811. That's 42% higher than the same point last year, an increase that has piled pressure on the Labour government, which returned to power nearly a year ago partly on disillusionment with the previous Conservative administration 's efforts to get a grip on the the numbers making the crossing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Poor Posture Made Her Look 10kg Heavier—Until This Shoe Insert Snapped Her Back Into Shape Healthy Living Reports Try Now Undo Having ditched the Conservative government's plan to send migrants who arrived in the U.K. by unauthorized means to Rwanda, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his government would get control by smashing the gangs and the business models that sustain their smuggling operations. Since gaining power, Starmer's government has sought better intelligence-sharing internationally, enhanced enforcement operations in northern France and has adopted tougher rules in its immigration legislation. Live Events French police officers were seen watching Saturday as migrants boarded at a beach in Gravelines, between Calais and Dunkirk, and authorities were then pictured escorting the boats. French authorities said they rescued 184 people. "Pretty shocking, those scenes yesterday," Defense Secretary John Healey told Sky News. He added that it is a "really big problem" that French police are unable to intervene to intercept boats in shallow waters, adding that the U.K. is pressing for the French to put new rules into operation so they can intervene. "They're not doing it, but, but for the first time for years ... we've got the level of cooperation needed," he told Sky News. "We've got the agreement that they will change the way they work, and our concentration now is to push them to get that into operation so they can intercept these smugglers and stop these people in the boats, not just on the shore." Despite French and U.K. efforts, the cross-Channel route, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, remains a major smuggling corridor for people fleeing conflict or poverty. Many migrants favor the U.K. for reasons of language, family ties or perceived easier access to asylum and work. The Home Office says 36,816 people arrived in the UK on small boats in 2024, 25% more than in 2023 (29,437). The highest number of arrivals was in 2022, with 45,774.
