AP PHOTOS: Former US school buses get a second life in Panama
LA CHORRERA, Panama (AP) — They were once bright yellow buses carrying kids to school in suburbs across the United States. Now in Panama – adorned with neon paintings, glowing lights and booming speakers – they are getting a second life.
The Red Devil buses have become a symbol of Panama's capital city, often blowing black clouds of smoke as they roar through its bustling streets. They also act as a reminder of the Central American nations long-running connection to the U.S. Once a year, drivers and hundreds of Panamanians flock to a rural racetrack an hour outside of the capital to watch the buses transform into race cars.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gifts pink toy luxury car to Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and his wife have gifted Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter with a pink toy Porsche. Ohtani posted a video of him, Roberts and the toy car on his Instagram account. 'We had a little running practical-joke situation going on,' Roberts said Wednesday, 'but this was a gift for the baby.' Last May, Roberts joked that Ohtani should give him a Porsche when the slugger broke the Dodgers record for most home runs by a Japanese player. Ohtani obliged, gifting a purple toy model Porsche for Roberts' office. In breaking the record, Ohtani surpassed the mark set by Roberts, who was born in Japan, during his playing days. Ohtani went slightly bigger in March, when he left another toy Porsche in Roberts' parking space at Camelback Ranch in Arizona. Ohtani gifted Ashley Kelly, wife of Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly, a Porsche for her husband giving up his No. 17 when Ohtani signed with the Dodgers in December 2023. Thursdays Keep up to date on sports with Mike McIntyre's weekly newsletter. Ohtani's first child was born on April 19. He and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, have not revealed the baby's name or any other information in keeping with Ohtani's penchant for privacy. Ohtani's reaction to the gift from Roberts and his wife Tricia? 'He was very grateful,' Roberts said. ___ AP MLB:

Ford recalls nearly half a million 2016-17 Explorers due to door trim that can detach while driving
WASHINGTON (AP) — Ford is recalling nearly half a million older Explorer models because part of the door trim can detach while driving and cause a dangerous road hazard, U.S. auto safety regulators said Wednesday. A notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall covers 492,145 Ford Explorers, model years 2016-2017. The vehicles were produced between June 11, 2015 and April 19, 2017. Ford Motor Co. first recognized the problem as far back as 2019, but did not consider it an 'unreasonable risk to safety,' the NHTSA report said. In March of this year, the NHTSA shared with Ford dozens of vehicle owner reports of the problem, leading Ford to further investigate it, eventually leading to the recall. Ford concluded that lack of proper adhesion was causing the trim to loosen, adding that it is unaware of accidents or injuries related to the defect. The Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker expects to start sending notification letters to owners on June 9. Wednesdays Columnist Jen Zoratti looks at what's next in arts, life and pop culture. When a remedy to fix the faulty part has been determined, owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicles into a Ford or Lincoln dealership to have the trim fixed at no cost. The NHTSA recall number is 25V347. The manufacturer's recall number is 25S53.

Olympics get Honda as auto sponsor for 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The organizing committee for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles signed Honda as a 'founding partner' Monday, giving the upcoming Summer Games their sixth new sponsor this year and their first tier-one sponsor since 2021. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Price tags for this level of sponsorship have been reported to start at around $200 million. The deal fills a hole for LA28 in the automotive category, which is considered one of the most important in the Olympic world. Toyota had been the Olympics auto sponsor before declining to renew its deal after 2024. Delta and Comcast are the other top-level sponsors for LA28. John Slusher, the CEO of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Properties, told Sports Business Journal that the new deal brings the operation to more than $1.5 billion in sponsorship sales, with a goal of $2.5 billion. Part of this deal calls for Honda to work with the organizing committee on a vehicle fleet to help move athletes and officials around Southern California during the games. ___ AP sports:
