HONOLULU (KHON2) — Counterfeit cash is circulating through Hawaii, while Honolulu police data shows forgery cases are up in 2025.

A fake $100 bill — apparently made by bleaching a $1 bill and reprinting it with $100 markings — was recently passed to a longtime local business owner.
'And I had a couple other girls in here at the same time, so I didn't really closely look at the $100, which if I would have did that I could it probably prevented it,' said Kevin Costello, Siam Imports owner.
Costello has owned Siam Imports for 28 years and will be closing up shop at the end of July.
'I'm so used to having good customers coming through my shop over the years that I get lackadaisical ago, sometimes,' he said.

Honolulu police data shows counterfeiting and forgery in 2025 has spiked 16.5% compared to the same time in 2024.
'We're seeing more and more of these bleaching of dollar bills, and then they're being printed with 50 or 100 on them,' said Retail Merchants of Hawaii President Tina Yamaki.
Experts said to always check if the blue strip on $100 dollar bills really is a hologram instead of a sticker. The pen to check counterfeits did not work for Costello.

'It still feels kind of like a paper bill because you're still using the same, you know, paper. It's like if you throw money through the wash. Right? It still feels like a bill, but we're seeing a lot more people now holding it up to the light, finding out that the pens don't always work,' Yamaki said.
Both retail experts and affected businesses gave the advice to take the extra time to really get a look at those bigger bills since counterfeiting and forgery crime is on the rise in Honolulu.
'Just to be a little bit more vigilant when you are taking money. Even if your lines are long, be sure that you check your bills thoroughly,' Yamaki said.
'Take the extra couple seconds, actually, all it would've took,' Costello said. 'And hopefully by you guys doing this report, it prevents someone else from getting, taken by those same people or a group of people or whatever.'

How to find upcoming tokens using the best crypto launchpad

The New York Post may receive revenue from affiliate/advertising partnerships for sharing this content and/or if you click or make a purchase. Cryptocurrency investors eager to discover the next breakout project will find it essential to understand how to navigate launchpads. These platforms are a gateway to early-stage tokens, offering tools for discovery, research and purchasing. Among the top options for tracking new crypto projects is Best Wallet — a user-friendly app that helps investors identify token launches, analyze tokenomics and manage digital assets more efficiently. Launchpads are a vital resources for cryptocurrency investors eager to hop on the next big thing. Art_Photo – This guide outlines how to use leading tools and methods, with insights from industry experts. Download a trusted exchange app — Start by choosing a licensed crypto exchange. We recommend starting with the Best Wallet app, available in both the iOS and Android app stores. Create and verify your account — Sign up using your email, Google, or Apple ID. To complete registration, you'll need to verify your identity with a government-issued ID and enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for added security. Fund your account — Deposit money into your account by linking a bank account or credit card or even using gift cards. Choose an option that best fits your lifestyle for convenience or anonymity. Buy your first cryptocurrency — Use the app's marketplace or swap tool to purchase crypto by entering the ticker symbol — like BTC for Bitcoin or ETH for Ethereum — and follow the prompts to complete the transaction. Choose how to store your crypto — Decide whether you'll keep your crypto in the exchange, move it to a digital wallet (hot wallet), or store it offline (cold wallet) for extra protection. Early access to token sales can give investors a significant advantage. 'Moonshot and DexScreener are currently dominant. New apps launch all the time. Users are not very sticky,' Zaki Manian, a prominent blockchain developer and advisor, told The Post. In other words, user retention is low — people often switch between platforms, try new tools, and move on quickly if something more appealing comes along. This is especially common in the fast-moving world of crypto, where new apps and services frequently emerge, and hype or incentives can draw users away from established platforms. Solana's low fees and high throughput have made it a hub for emerging tokens. photo_gonzo – To stay ahead, monitor crypto discussion forums, Telegram and Discord groups and follow announcements on platforms like CoinDesk and Cointelegraph. Tools like BestWallet and CoinLaunch offer curated listings of new and upcoming projects. Solana's low fees and high throughput have made it a hub for emerging tokens. Investors can track launches through Raydium's AcceleRaytor, view token activity on Solscan and connect using Phantom Wallet. Staying engaged with these tools ensures timely access to new projects. Uniswap is a decentralized exchange (DEX) built on Ethereum that allows users to trade and list tokens without relying on a centralized intermediary. Uniswap As one of Ethereum's primary decentralized exchanges, Uniswap is a hotspot for early-stage tokens. Users can spot new listings through the 'Explore' section, or use DexScreener for detailed analytics. Following Ethereum developer channels and crypto influencers on X is also helpful. PancakeSwap is a decentralized exchange built on the Binance Smart Chain that allows users to trade cryptocurrencies, provide liquidity and earn rewards through yield farming and staking. Pancakeswap PancakeSwap, built on BSC, is ideal for accessing new projects in the Binance ecosystem. Check its homepage for new listings and announcements, or explore tools like CoinLaunch for aggregated token data. Community groups on Telegram often provide early alerts. Phantom is a user-friendly, non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet built for the Solana blockchain. Phantom Phantom is more than a wallet — it's a gateway to the Solana ecosystem. Investors can use its interface to identify and manage new tokens, often before they appear on broader exchanges. Phantom's integration with apps and token explorers enhances its value for discovery. Raydium enables fast, low-cost token swaps. Raydium Raydium's AcceleRaytor is a launchpad for vetted Solana-based projects. It provides information on upcoming sales, participation requirements and project documentation. Staying subscribed to Raydium's updates and engaging with its Discord can keep users ahead of the curve. Solscan offers deep insight into Solana transactions and token histories. By tracking wallet movements and monitoring contract deployments, users can spot emerging tokens. It's a research tool that adds confidence to early-stage investing. The Binance Smart Chain ecosystem is fast-moving and densely populated. PancakeSwap is the leading platform, but BSCScan is crucial for following new token contracts and deployments. Tools like DexScreener and BestWallet can be synced to filter for BSC-based launches. Early access to token sales can give investors a significant advantage. Yingyaipumi – Token creation is governed by blockchain protocols and smart contracts. 'Tokens are created through blockchain protocols, often via smart contracts, where developers define the token's supply, distribution, and functionality before deploying them on a blockchain network,' said Martin Leinweber, director of digital asset research and strategy at MarketVector Indexes. 'Tokens are just computer programs. As a result, the mechanisms are limited only by imagination and economic constraints. But the more 'unique' your token is, the more work it will be to make the token available and discoverable by users,' added Zaki Manian. Finding reliable launchpads begins with trusted news sources and research. 'Investors can find launchpads by researching reputable platforms on crypto news sites like CoinDesk or Cointelegraph, following social media channels like X and Telegram for project announcements, or exploring curated lists on sites like CoinLaunch,' said Leinweber. Launchpads help blockchain projects fundraise and reach early supporters. 'A crypto launchpad is a platform that helps new blockchain projects raise funds by offering early-stage token sales to investors, often providing vetting and marketing support,' said Leinweber. To stay ahead, monitor crypto discussion forums, Telegram and Discord groups and follow announcements on platforms like CoinDesk and Cointelegraph. Maximusdn – Manian added: 'Launchpads work by standardizing token designs to make tokens easier to design.' No launchpad is perfect for every investor, but a few have established strong reputations. 'There's no one-size-fits-all answer, but platforms like Binance Launchpad, CoinList, and DAO Maker are widely regarded for their credibility, user base, and past project success. However, this doesn't mean that every token launch will be a success. Investors have to do their own research,' said Leinweber. Manian called 'the most famous launchpad right now' though, he added, 'there are many many more.' 'People choose launchpads for idiosyncratic reasons or because they are lacking features like dividing creator trading fees or anti-sniping mechanisms on launch or built-in airdrop features,' said Manian. Exchanges vary in quality and reliability. 'The best crypto exchanges prioritize security, liquidity, regulatory compliance (KYC/AML), and transparent custody practices,' said Leinweber. 'Based on different industry benchmarks, the most reputable names include Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, Bitstamp, Bullish, and Gemini.' Are You Crypto Curious? How to transform Apple Intelligence into a real AI chatbot without ChatGPT

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, BGR may receive an affiliate commission. With WWDC 2025 now over, many Apple fans were disappointed by the lack of newer Apple Intelligence features. Even though Cupertino is bringing some new AI functionalities to the platform, the most anticipated one is still a mystery. This is why Apple executives have addressed in a few interviews why the new Siri hasn't shipped yet. While it was initially expected to arrive with iOS 18.4, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman now reports that Apple aims for an iOS 26.4 release. Today's Top Deals Best deals: Tech, laptops, TVs, and more sales Best Ring Video Doorbell deals Memorial Day security camera deals: Reolink's unbeatable sale has prices from $29.98 While this might be even more disappointing for users (especially since OpenAI and other competitors keep evolving their AI models faster than ever), there's a possibility to take advantage of Apple Intelligence as a real AI chatbot (and I'm not talking about powering it with ChatGPT). This is still only available as part of the new features coming with iOS 26 and macOS Tahoe, which are in the early days of beta testing. As noted by my good friend and MacWorld reporter Filipe Espósito on Threads, it's possible to run your own Apple Intelligence chatbot if you have the iOS 26 or macOS Tahoe beta installed on your devices. The Apple Intelligence chatbot can be powered by Apple's AI features in the new Shortcuts app. As explained by Espósito, you can choose between the on-device model, which isn't as powerful, or the Private Cloud Compute option, which runs online and works pretty well as a chatbot. You can learn more in Espósito's Threads post. Here's how I created mine: With the Shortcuts app on iOS 26 or macOS Tahoe, choose the 'Get text from Input' option. Then select 'Use Private Cloud Compute model' with Text. Finally, Apple Intelligence needs to 'Show Response.' While Apple's AI chatbot doesn't have the same strong personality as other AI bots, it's pretty good for information. I asked what the best way to get from Paris to London during the summer was, and what the best portable power bank I could get was, and I got decent responses. When I asked how updated Apple's models were, the company sent me a support page with its Intelligence features. Also, this shortcut doesn't allow you to see past queries or even view the previous message if you interact with it again. If you really want to see how an Apple Intelligence chatbot works right now, the new Shortcuts app gives you the best preview yet. What WWDC tells us about the future of Apple and the iPhone

This post originally appeared in the BI Tech Memo newsletter. Sign up for the weekly BI Tech Memo newsletter here. WWDC was a bit of a bust. Apple's Liquid Glass design overhaul was criticized on social media because it makes some iPhone notifications hard to read. A few jokers on X even shared a screenshot of YouTube's play button obstructing the "Gl" in a thumbnail for an Apple Liquid Glass promo. Need I say more? The more serious question hanging over this year's WWDC was not answered. When will Siri get the AI upgrade it desperately needs? Software chief Craig Federighi delivered the bad news: It's still not ready. That knocked roughly $75 billion off Apple's market value. The stock recovered a bit, but it's still badly lagging behind rivals this month. Google, OpenAI, and other tech companies are launching powerful new AI models and products at a breakneck pace. Apple is running out of time to prove it's a real player in this important field. Analyst Dan Ives is usually bullish, but even he's concerned. "They have a tight window to figure this out," Ives wrote, after calling this year's WWDC a "yawner." AI is complex, expensive, and takes a long time to get right. Apple was late to start building the needed foundational technology, such as data centers, training data pipelines, and homegrown AI chips. By contrast, Google began laying its AI groundwork decades ago. It bought DeepMind in 2014, and this AI lab shapes Google's models in profound ways today. When I was at Google I/O last month, one or two insiders whispered a phrase. They cautiously described an "intelligence gap" that could open up between the iPhone and other smartphones. Many Android phones already feature Google's Gemini chatbot, which is far more capable than Siri. If Apple's AI upgrade takes too long, this intelligence gap could widen so much that some iPhone users might consider switching. At I/O, these insiders only whispered this idea. That's because it will take something pretty dramatic to get people to give up their iPhones. This device has become a utility that we can't live without — even for the few days (weeks?) it might take to get used to an Android replacement. Still, if Apple doesn't get its AI house in order soon, this intelligence gap will keep growing, and things could get really siri-ous.
