Leaders from Russia, Pak., Australia, Israel express condolences for victims of air crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin, Bangladesh interim government's Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese were among the world leaders who condoled Thursday's air tragedy in Ahmedabad that left at least 242 people dead and dozens injured.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the country is monitoring the situation and promised support.
'The news of a passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad is absolutely devastating. In this time of tragedy, Australia's thoughts are with everyone affected. Our government is receiving regular updates and we will continue to monitor the situation closely,' said Mr. Albanese in his message.
Mr. Putin wrote to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his condolence message saying, 'Kindly convey the words of sincere sympathy and support to the families and near ones of the victims, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured in this catastrophe.'
'Heartbreaking tragedy'
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a social media post, said, 'Saddened by the tragic crash of Air India flight near Ahmedabad today. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims grieving this immense loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.'
Mr. Yunus expressed shock at the crash of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and said, 'At this trying hour, our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their loved ones. We stand in solidarity with the people and Government of India, and offer our full support in any form,' said Mr. Yunus in his letter of condolence sent to Mr. Modi.
Israeli Foreign Minister Sa'ar said, 'Our hearts are with the Indian people following this terrible incident.'
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the country is monitoring the developments. 'Heartbroken to hear the news of tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. My prayers are with all who lost their loved ones in this horrible incident. We stand with the emergency responders working to help those impacted,' he said.
French President Emmanuel Macron said, 'In this time of sorrow, I extend our heartfelt thoughts to the victims' loved ones and to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.'
