Lori Holloway Appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Community Support Association
TORONTO, May 30, 2025 /CNW/ - The Ontario Community Support Association (OCSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Lori Holloway as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective June 30, 2025.
A recognized leader in Ontario's health and community care sectors, Holloway brings over 20 years of experience driving system change, championing equitable access to care, and strengthening community-based services. Her appointment marks a full-circle moment—returning to OCSA after previously serving as Chief of Operations over a decade ago.
Holloway's extensive leadership portfolio includes roles as CEO of Bellwoods Centres for Community Living, National Director of Health and Wellness at the Canadian Red Cross, and Interim CEO of CANES Community Care. She is known for her collaborative leadership style and proven ability to lead organizations through complexity while keeping people and purpose at the centre.
"Lori is a values-driven leader with deep roots in our sector," says Steve Sherrer, Chair of the OCSA Board of Directors. "At a time when demand for home and community care is growing and the policy landscape is shifting, her strategic insight and operational expertise will be invaluable in advancing OCSA's mission. Holloway takes over from outgoing CEO, Deborah Simon. "We extend our deepest gratitude to Deborah for her tireless dedication and lasting contributions," says Sherrer. "Thanks to her leadership, OCSA is well positioned to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead."
This leadership transition comes at an important time as OCSA calls for more support for the sector through its Everyone Needs Home and Community Care campaign. "I felt powerless when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and when my close friend, Kenroy, passed away from this disease," said Carlos Brathwaite, international cricket star. "I'm proud to bring my passion for cricket to Canada to help launch this event and raise funds for cancer research that can help transform cancer care and treatment everywhere– including my home, Barbados." With 2 in 5 Canadians facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, the event was more than just a game—it was a community movement for collective impact. Proceeds will benefit life-saving research at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the world's leading cancer research and treatment centres. Top fundraising teams had the unique opportunity to draft celebrity players onto their teams through a celebrity draft including notable ambassadors Jully Black, Jamaal Magloire, Dwayne De Rosario and Carlos Brathwaite. These household names joined local teams on the pitch, highlighting the inclusive and celebratory nature of the event. "As a daughter of Jamaican immigrants, cricket was a source of endless joy in my family," said Jully Black, Canadian singer-songwriter and artist. "This cause is deeply personal. Cancer has touched every corner of my life—my father is a proud survivor, sadly my mother and grandmother passed away from the disease, and at 27 years old, I too, faced my own cancer scare. Canadian Medical Association welcomes Dr. Margot Burnell as new president Français
OTTAWA, ON, May 31, 2025 /CNW/ - New Brunswick's Dr. Margot Burnell is now the president of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), following an installation ceremony at its annual general meeting today. An oncologist for more than three decades at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Dr. Burnell has seen the impact of a health system under pressure. During her address to physician-colleagues, Dr. Burnell emphasized her commitment to improve access to care as a core issue of her year-long mandate. She is also eager to advance Indigenous reconciliation in health care, strengthen Canada's health workforce, reduce physicians' paperwork and improve physician well-being. "Canadians deserve a health system that is there for them when they need it," she says. "I strongly believe that ideas and lived experience from patients, physicians and others at the front lines are critical to building a future for health care that Canadians can take pride in." With the start of Dr. Burnell's presidency, Dr. Joss Reimer of Winnipeg becomes the CMA's past president. Rural Canada is a cornerstone of national prosperity—rich in resources, innovation, and untapped potential. With modern infrastructure, reliable connectivity, and updated fiscal tools, rural communities are ready to drive growth in critical sectors and expand Canada's global trade footprint. But unlocking this potential requires a renewed, results-driven partnership across all orders of government—because when rural communities thrive, the entire country moves forward. Advance climate resilience by partnering with rural municipalities to strengthen infrastructure, protect communities, and support long-term sustainability. Recognizing all communities, including rural and urban areas, as essential partners in delivering national priorities, alongside provincial and territorial governments. This is the first national rural report of its kind in seven years — grounded in the voices of rural leaders from coast to coast to coast. It calls on the federal government to work with rural municipalities through a National Prosperity Partnership to unlock rural economic potential, fully connect communities with reliable internet and cellular service, and ensure safety and strength in every corner of the country. As Canada modernizes how municipalities are funded, rural realities must be front and centre.
