Met Office issues weather latest for Liverpool as heatwave comes to an end

Yahoo3 hours ago

Sizzling temperatures have cooled in Liverpool with the recent heatwave coming to a halt. Glorious sunshine basked over the region for much of the past week, with temperatures climbing to around 30C.
It was perfect weather for the many outdoor events which took place in the city this week, including the On the Waterfront festival. But the region saw a change in conditions on Saturday (June 21) with spells of rain, amid a UK warning for thunderstorms which saw parts of the country further north badly hit. The Met Office is forecasting much cooler temperatures over the coming days compared to last week.
Highs of 20C are forecast in Liverpool today (Sunday June 22) beginning with cloudy skies.

Outbreaks of rain are forecast to sweep through during the afternoon. The air will feel fresher than of late with a strengthening southwesterly wind. Rain is expected to be at its heaviest at around 4pm.
Anyone who has been struggling to sleep in the recent heat will welcome the news of cooler overnight temperatures with lows of 13C expected in the city overnight.
The Met Office expects Monday to be mostly dry and cloudy with some sunny intervals. The chance of rain is low.
Tuesday and Wednesday will see dark clouds in the sky with a higher chance of rain on the former.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be sunnier but still cloudy, with temperatures reaching highs of 22C.

Dangerous Heat Wave Expands Over Central and Eastern United States

A relentless and intensifying heat wave is expanding across the central and eastern United States this week, bringing well-above-average heat to millions of people from the Midwest to the East Coast and prompting health advisories across several states. After pushing temperatures to around 100 degrees in parts of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota on Saturday, the heat is expected to continue over the Midwest and shift eastward on Sunday. By midweek, the heat is expected to affect major urban areas, including New York City, Philadelphia and Washington. 'This is the deadliest weather threat we face in New York City — treat it that way,' the city's Emergency Management said on social media on Saturday. 'Don't wait until you feel sick. Heat builds. It compounds. It kills quietly.' New York City officials noted that more than 500 residents die prematurely each year from heat-related causes, and they expect oppressive temperatures to persist through at least Tuesday. In Philadelphia, the Department of Public Health issued a heat health emergency, beginning at noon on Sunday and continuing through Wednesday evening. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Louisville under heat advisory for multiple days. What to know from the National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Louisville issued a heat advisory June 22 for counties in Kentucky and southern Indiana, as heat index values are expected to top 100 degrees for several days. The advisory is in effect until June 24 at 8 p.m. For Louisville, meteorologists with the weather service estimate heat indices, which factor in the humidity, will be as high as 104 degrees June 22 and 24. The city may not see a day without a heat index value above 100 until after June 27. "The combination of temperatures in the low to mid 90s and dew points in the mid 70s will result in heat index values between 100-105 over the next several days," NWS Louisville officials stated in a Facebook post. "During this time, stay hydrate(d) and avoid being outside for long periods of time and take frequent breaks. Always remember to double check your vehicle for children and pets." In a statement issued June 22, meteorologists with the National Weather Service's central office reported a "dangerous heat wave" is active over the Midwest. Residents in densely populated urban areas are considered to be the most vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. "Light winds, sunny skies, and a lack of overnight cooling will pose a significant risk to those without adequate cooling and/or hydration," NWS officials stated. Louisville may not see a high temperature below 90 degrees for several days, according to a National Weather Service forecast issued June 22. Low temperatures are expected to be around 75 degrees or higher each day through June 27. After sunny and hot conditions impact Louisville on June 22, here's a closer look at the forecast over the next three days: Monday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 103. Light southwest wind. Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 76. Light southwest wind. Tuesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 94. Calm wind. Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 75. Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 94. Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 76. Heat indices to range from 97 to over 100 degrees across North Texas as summer begins

Summer is officially here! The longest day of the year containing 14 hours and 18 minutes of daylight has passed. Sunday will still be long, just three seconds shorter than Saturday. Cloud cover will decrease, becoming sunny by the afternoon. The solar radiation will allow for temperatures to peak in the lower to mid-90s, with a heat index values ranging from 97 to 103 degrees. Winds are coming from the south, gusting around 25 mph. North Texas should stay dry this week, however, there is a possibility of an isolated storm or two popping up in the evening. If one does ignite, lightning and brief rainfall is expected. Due to a lingering ridge of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere, the dry and warm pattern continues into the first full week of summer. Highs will stay in the middle 90s and lows in the mid-to-upper 70s. Stay tuned for the latest forecast updates!
