Female prison warden killed in crash in Melaka
MELAKA: A female prison warden was killed after her motorcycle was crushed by a cement lorry at a traffic light junction along the Lebuh Sungai Udang–Paya Rumput–Ayer Keroh Highway yesterday evening.
The victim, Sergeant Amal Nurlidar Ghazali, 42, was pinned beneath the heavy vehicle and died at the scene at 5.50pm.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the victim was riding a Yamaha Ego Solariz motorcycle and was at the traffic light when the accident occurred.
The 49-year-old driver of the cement lorry, who was travelling in the same direction, reportedly lost control of the vehicle and swerved to avoid other vehicles, veering onto the road shoulder before striking and crushing the victim.
"As a result of the collision, the victim's legs were crushed and she sustained serious injuries," he said today.
Christopher added that the accident was believed to have been caused by brake failure and that the incident was recorded on a vehicle's dashboard camera.
The driver tested negative for drugs and is expected to be remanded at the Ayer Keroh magistrates' court this morning.
The cement lorry has been seized and will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) for mechanical inspection.

Woman nabbed for intimidating, sharing nude photos of hubby and 2nd wife
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit confirmed the arrest of the woman. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested a woman in a polyamorous marriage who allegedly threatened and shared nude photos of her husband's second wife. According to Berita Harian, the Melaka magistrates' court allowed the police to remand the suspect for four days to assist in their investigation. The woman's lawyer, Sheikh Ikhzan Sheikh Salleh, had opposed the remand order, arguing that this was merely a domestic case. The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, and Section 509 for outraging a person's modesty. A source said the 53-year-old woman was arrested at KLIA last night after returning from a holiday in Austria. She was wanted by police after the second wife – a 47-year-old teacher in Selangor – lodged a police report. The source said the victim was informed by her father that the suspect – a mother of four – had sent him photos of her (the second wife) and her husband in the nude. 'Fearing that the nude photos would be spread and having been harassed by the suspect, the complainant filed a police report on March 27,' the source said. Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit confirmed the arrest, but declined to disclose details of the case.

Lorry in FRU crash passed Puspakom inspection, says company owner
The crash which killed nine FRU personnel in Teluk Intan on Tuesday occurred when a gravel-laden lorry collided with a FRU truck transporting personnel. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The owner of the lorry involved in the crash that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit personnel in Teluk Intan on Tuesday says the vehicle passed a Puspakom inspection just last month. The man, who only wished to be known as Ravi, 58, told Utusan Malaysia that the lorry also had all the necessary documents. On Tuesday, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said while the preliminary findings into the crash suggested a steering issue, the accident could have been prevented if the vehicle had undergone a Puspakom inspection. 'Last month, I went to Puspakom and the lorry passed inspection. After that, I renewed the road tax,' said Ravi. Ravi added that the driver involved in the crash had only been working for about a month and a half. The driver, Rudi Zulkarnain Mat Radi, 45, was charged with causing death by reckless driving yesterday. The 8.40am crash, which also left two FRU officers critically injured, occurred when a gravel-laden lorry was involved in a collision with a FRU truck transporting personnel back to their base in Ipoh after they had provided security support at a festival in Teluk Intan. Ravi said he was deeply saddened by the incident and its impact on the victims' families. He said he was constantly thinking about the victims' families and hoped to meet them, if possible. 'Of course, I feel heartbroken,' he said. 'On behalf of the company, we apologise to the families of the victims, and I also extend my condolences to them. I would like to meet them to express my sympathies. 'I constantly think about how they must feel. They've lost family members, lost husbands — how will they go on with their lives? When the head of the family is gone, of course their lives will be difficult.'
