Sarah Jessica Parker Explains Why She Turns Down Fans' Selfie Requests — and Reveals What She Offers Instead

Sarah Jessica Parker wants to get to know her fans rather than take a quick pic
During a recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the actress explained why she turns down fans' selfie requests
"I always am, like, startled by it. I much prefer to have a conversation," she explainedSarah Jessica Parker believes in living in the moment rather than capturing it.
In a clip from the actress's recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, published on YouTube on Tuesday, June 10, the Sex and the City star explained her hesitancy to fulfill fans' selfie requests. Parker, 60, detailed a recent situation in which a fan asked for a photograph at the airport.
"So here's what I've been trying to do, because I was just at the airport on Friday," she began. "A woman came up to me and she didn't say hello, she just said, 'Can I take your picture?' And I said, 'We didn't even meet. You didn't even introduce yourself. What's your name?' "
After learning that the fan's name is Julie, Parker then suggested that the two have a conversation rather than taking a photo. "I guarantee you it's gonna be so much more meaningful," she reasoned.
Parker then caught up with Julie after she got her family settled with food.
Stern replied: "It's like you're a schoolteacher teaching everyone how to behave. It's f------ annoying, yeah?"
Parker explained that while it's not annoying, it can be frightening when fans immediately try to capture a picture of her.
"Here's the thing: I kind of prefer it to somebody walking up to me with a camera already ready asking as they're clicking," she said. "I always am, like, startled by it. I much prefer to have a conversation — for someone to come up to me and say, 'Maybe this isn't your best time, my name is Veronica and I'm just here and I'm excited to see you.' "

The Hocus Pocus star, who is married to Matthew Broderick and shares three children with him, believes in keeping her personal life private. However, she did give a rare insight into the advice she offers her children: son James Wilkie, 22, and twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, 15.
While appearing on The E! News Sitdown with Bruce Bozzi last month, Parker explained that she wants her kids to gravitate towards work that inspires them.
'You want for them to be pursuing things that are exciting and challenging and hard and gratifying and to be able to ultimately take care of themselves, support themselves — emotionally, financially, and that they can be in the world and be a reliable person to themselves and to other people," she revealed. "And so we talk about work like that.'

Bruce Springsteen's Blockbuster Albums Storm The Charts Together

Bruce Springsteen is spending the summer traveling around Europe, performing dates on his Land of Hope and Dreams tour. The trek began two years ago under the name Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band 2023–2025 Tour, but when he picked up the guitar again in mid-May, he later renamed the venture and brought it to the United Kingdom. Springsteen and company recently played dates in Liverpool, marking his return to the nation, and this move has spurred a buying frenzy of his catalog. Half a dozen of Springsteen's albums appear on at least one chart apiece in the U.K. this week. Four of those titles return to the rankings, becoming bestselling releases once more. Born in the USA is the only one of Springsteen's titles that returns to a sales list and appears inside the top 40. The early-career classic breaks back onto the Official Album Downloads chart at No. 35. It also lands at No. 79 on the Official Albums Sales list after not appearing on that tally at all just a few days ago. Greatest Hits also reappears on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Physical Albums charts, where it can be found at Nos. 49 and 83, respectively. At the same time, the compilation rockets from No. 80 to No. 7 on the Official Album Downloads ranking – reaching a new high point in the process. Yet another compilation, titled simply Best Of, jumps back onto both the Official Albums Streaming list and the Official Albums chart. On those tallies, the compilation can be found at Nos. 84 and 93, respectively. Springsteen's catalog is so popular that one collection of smash singles isn't enough for the nation. The River is the only one of Springsteen's comebacks that doesn't make a home on several rankings. This time around, it only reenters the Official Album Downloads chart, where it comes in at No. 72. In addition to his quartet of returning favorites, one of Springsteen's oldest projects — his breakout set Born to Run — manages to debut on the downloads-only tally. The career-making set launches at No. 92, decades after it was first unveiled to the world.

Trump's History Of Degrading Comments About Women

It's no secret that Trump has been known for saying very demeaning things about women, especially when it comes to their appearance. In fact, he has said belitting things so frequently that he denies even remembering them. So, here are just a few of the shocking things Trump has said about women — a reminder of how deeply sickening and unacceptable this rhetoric truly is. In a 2007 interview on Larry King Live, Trump reportedly criticized Jolie's appearance and personal life, saying, 'Angelina Jolie is sort of amazing because everyone thinks she's like this great beauty… but she's not a beauty, by any stretch of the imagination. In terms of beauty, she's not a great beauty.' Trump went on to criticize her public persona and personal history during a separate interview on CNN's The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer. Trump was discussing Jolie's humanitarian work and public persona, and criticized her by saying:, saying, 'Now she's like a representative of the United Nations and world peace on hunger and all of this crap… and she had just said she made love to Billy Bob Thornton in the back of the limousine on the way over. And I wouldn't want to shake her hand, by the way.' One of the most repulsive things that happened was in 2007 when Maxim magazine did a reader poll that named Sarah Jessica Parker the most "Unsexiest Woman Alive." Agreeing with the magazine, Trump is reported to have echoed the sentiment in a Facebook post that publicly criticized her appearance. Sarah expressed her feelings over this in an interview with Grazia magazine. She described the experience as "brutal," stating, "It's so brutal in a way, so filled with rage and anger." Sarah also noted that the title affected her husband, actor Matthew Broderick, saying it "upset him because it has to do with his judgment too." She questioned the standards used to determine attractiveness, remarking, "Do I have big fake boobs, Botox and big lips? No. Do I fit some ideals and standards of some men writing in a men's magazine? Maybe not." In a 2004 interview with Howard Stern, Trump made a remark about Lindsay Lohan, saying that "deeply troubled" women are "always the best in bed," according to a review of the interview by CNN's KFile. At the time, Lindsay was only 18 years old and had recently completed filming Mean Girls. Lindsay's representative issued a statement at the time, expressing disgust and emphasizing that "money cannot buy class." Jamie Lee Curtis also publicly defended her. CNN's KFile also reported that Trump approved of Howard Stern referring to his daughter, Ivanka, as a "piece of ass" and went on to describe how he would go backstage at his pageants while contestants were naked. Trump has not publicly apologized or provided a direct response to the reported 2004 interview with Howard Stern. Just this May, Trump posted on Truth Social: 'Has anyone noticed that, since I said 'I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,' she's no longer 'HOT?'' The White House responded to Trump's comment with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying, "He is speaking about Taylor Swift's political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work." During a 2013 interview on Showbiz Tonight, Trump was asked what he thought about Kim Kardashian creating a baby shower registry even though she's wealthy. His response? 'She's gotten a little bit large. I would say this: I don't think you should dress like you weigh 120 pounds.' When host A.J. Hammer challenged him, asking, 'Why not? She feels good about herself?" Trump attempted to backtrack his statement, saying, 'I think that's great. If she feels great about herself, do it, Kim.' Trump reportedly insulted Alicia Machado, who won the Miss Universe title in 1996. He is said to have publicly mocked her in 1997, calling her 'Miss Piggy' and 'Miss Housekeeping,' derogatory nicknames targeting both her appearance and her Latina heritage. Alicia has spoken out about how Trump's insults deeply affected her self-esteem and mental health, saying the experience was "humiliating." She also used her story during the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign to highlight Trump's history of mistreating women. Trump publicly attacked Kristen Stewart on Twitter in 2012, accusing her of cheating on Robert Pattinson "like a dog." Trump is said to have made 11 tweets in total, mocking her by calling her "boring" and "untalented." On his late-night show, Stephen Colbert asked Kristen if these tweets helped teach her how to deal with bullies. Kristen responded, explaining that she had publicly asked Trump about his comments, but he didn't respond. She then added, "We're all different. That's okay. You know, celebrate the differences." In a 2015 interview with The New York Times, Trump took a jab at supermodel Heidi Klum, saying, 'Sadly, she's no longer a 10,' implying that she had lost her attractiveness with age. Heidi responded on Instagram with a video of a man in a Trump mask ripping a '10' off her shirt to reveal '9.99,' and later stated that every woman is a '10' in her book. Even some Republicans were upset after Trump made a very graphic insult of MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski. In response to criticism from Morning Joe, Trump tweeted in 2017: 'I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar‑a‑Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face‑lift. I said no!'Mika responded to this by posting a photo of a Cheerios box labeled "Made for little hands" on social media. In 2012, Donald Trump tweeted derogatory comments about Bette Midler, calling her 'extremely unattractive' and mocking her appearance. Jimmy Kimmel has talked about how much Trump reportedly hates Bette Midler on his show. In 2012, after Cher criticized Mitt Romney, Trump is said to have called her "somewhat of a loser," adding that she was "lonely," "unhappy," and "very miserable." Speaking on Fox News with Greta Van Susteren, he went on to say, "like Rosie…a total loser" before dismissing Cher as 'average talent who is out of touch with reality." After Romney became the Republican nominee, Cher tweeted: 'If ROMNEY gets elected I don't know if i can breathe same air as Him & his Right Wing Racist Homophobic Women Hating Tea Bagger Masters.' Cher later deleted this tweet. In 2006, on Entertainment Tonight, Trump called Rosie "disgusting, both inside and out," and a "slob" who "talks like a truck driver" with a "fat, ugly face." Trump said this because he was upset with Rosie O'Donnell after she criticized his decision to let Miss USA Tara Conner keep her title even though she was caught up in personal scandals. She accused him of being a hypocrite because of his own messy history with affairs and then, Trump has also said Rosie is a 'loser,' 'fat pig,' 'beast," 'mentally sick woman,' 'bully,' 'dummy', and countless other insults. Just days after Anna Nicole Smith passed away in 2007, Trump is said to have called Anna's lips "the most disgusting thing to look at…big fat pumped up tires" in a radio interview on The Howard Stern Show. CNN reported on the incident, quoting Trump. You can watch other Howard Stern interviews with Anna Nicole Smith here. During the final presidential debate in 2016, Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton by calling her a "nasty woman" while she was speaking about tax policy. Hillary was specifically discussing Social Security tax increases, saying her own taxes would go up along with Trump's, when he suddenly interjected with the insult. During a press briefing in 2020, Trump called Kamala Harris "nasty" and "disrespectful" for how she questioned Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh about reproductive rights in 2018. Trump was recalling a moment during the 2018 Senate Judiciary Committee, when Kamala pressed Brett about reproductive rights, asking, 'Can you think of any laws that give the government the power to make decisions about the male body?' After a noticeable pause, he said: 'I'm not thinking of any right now, Senator.'Trump has also called Kamala 'extraordinarily nasty... nasty to a level that was just a horrible thing' and 'the meanest, most horrible, most disrespectful of anybody in the U.S. Senate.' Got any others you want us to shed light on? Let us know in the comments and maybe we make a follow-up post.

Gen Z Daters Are Proving Samantha Jones Right

Credit - Photo-Illustration by Chloe Dowling for TIME (Source Images: HBO/Everett,, Paramount Pictures/Newsmakers, HBO/Entertainment Pictures) From the mid 90s to early 2000s, bisexual visibility was on the rise. Both Bisexual Pride Day and Celebrate Bisexual Day were created during this boom. But that doesn't mean that bisexuality became mainstream. In fact, a moral panic was simultaneously taking place, one in which bisexuality was seen as a gateway to homosexuality, a way for young people to get attention, or simply not a real orientation. In fact, this panic is depicted in an episode of Sex and the City, which aired in 2000, called "Boy, Girl, Boy, Girl..." in which Carrie Bradshaw is conflicted about dating a bisexual man. What would this mean for her own identity? Could she ever be comfortable with knowing that her partner desired not just other women but men, as well? In this episode, Carrie's friend Samatha Jones states confidently that 'the new millennium won't be about sexual labels. It'll be about sexual expression. It won't matter if you're sleeping with men or women. It'll be about sleeping with individuals.' Jones was prescient when she said this. Because, to her (and the writers' credit), 25 years later, young daters are more open to embracing dating people based on their general attraction, not their gender identity. Read More: The 10 Most Fabulous Samantha Episodes of Sex and the City According to new data from Hinge's D.A.T.E. Report, a third (33%) of LGBTQIA+ and heterosexual daters surveyed said that they had been attracted to someone outside of their preferred gender expression and that this largely had to do with the person's confidence and energy. Additionally, a 2024 Public Religion Research Institute study found that 28% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQIA+. This percentage is much higher than a 2022 Gallup poll that found that 7% of all Americans identify as part of the community. As bisexuality accounts for the majority of the queer population, this new data suggests that we've entered the next big wave of bi and pansexual (bi+) visibility. Bisexuality and pansexuality have often been erased identities, even within the queer community. Wanting to date and have sex with people of different genders can come with a certain amount of skepticism from peers and loved ones. Coming out as bi+ can be met with incredulity and calls to 'pick a side'. And while it's true that bisexuality can sometimes be a bridge between a heterosexual identity and a homosexual one (or vice versa), that's not always the case. Contrary to the 'chaotic' label, bisexuality can be a lifelong, stable sexual identity. Today, this surge in interest in dating people based on pure attraction is more normalized, partly due to the increased visibility of bisexuality in mainstream media. There were few to no 'bi icons' in mainstream media in the 90s to normalize dating across the gender spectrum. Whereas we now have Frank Ocean, Cardi B, Doechii, Hannah Einbinder, Lil Nas X, Janelle Monae, and so many more who have publicly claimed sexual identities that range from bi to pan to defying categorization. They've given younger generations multiple models for how bisexuality can look with no apology, no caveat, and no expectation of toning this part of themself down for the benefit of others' comfort. Though stereotypes about bisexuals being indecisive or noncommittal still persist today, there is also a movement to embrace these qualities as part of the identity. Bi+ people can be all things, good and bad, and that's kind of the point. Rather than be forced to conform to a particular mode of queerness, bi+ people have pushed back on one-dimensional characterizations. We've seen the 21 year old reality TV star, JoJo Siwa, grapple with her sexuality as it has evolved from lesbian to queer. (Siwa is currently dating a man and has suffered backlash for this after previously identifying as a lesbian. She said recently that 'I realize for myself that I just like humans.') Similarly, the singer Fletcher, whose work has previously centered her relationships with women, revealed that she too is in a relationship with a man. Fletcher, who is a Millenial-Gen Z cusper, is using her new album to share the ever-evolving realities of having attractions to and relationships with people of different genders. We've also seen a tremendous amount of work being done to share the bi+ stories of historical figures who have had their sexualities altered or erased. And social media has been instrumental in spreading these histories to a wide audience. Accounts like Queer Love in History and yesterqueers reveal the real and complicated sexual lives of both famous and everyday people. Bringing these identities forward validates the enduring historical presence of sexual attraction across the gender spectrum. In the 90s, many feared what the rise in bisexual visibility might portend. For a sexuality that has been consistently misunderstood and maligned, it has also provided proof that sexuality can be unbound from the constraints of gender. What we all get to see now, in this next wave of bi+ visibility, is the everyday realities that people face, the fears they have about defining themselves for a wider audience, and the messiness that can result when you allow your sexuality to evolve and change. Gen Z has seen more clearly how orientation isn't always fixed, and that has given more of young people permission to follow their desires, no matter who they lead them to. So, as per usual, Samantha Jones was right: Gen Z is closer to everyone being pansexual than we ever have been before. Or perhaps they're just the generation brave enough to admit it.
