Aamir Khan Recalls Making Ex-Wife Kiran Rao Cry: 'Woh Baat Karne Ki Koshish Kar Rahi Thi Aur Main…'

Aamir Khan opens up on how his ego once made Kiran Rao cry.
Aamir Khan, known for his perfection on screen, is also no stranger to introspection when it comes to his personal life. In a candid chat with podcaster Raj Shamani, the superstar opened up about a painful incident involving his ex-wife Kiran Rao that still lingers in his memory.
When asked about any red flags he may have shown in his relationships, Aamir was quick to admit that being a 'workaholic" was one of them. He shared how he used to be deeply consumed by work in his earlier years and confessed that emotional immaturity often got the better of him.
The Taare Zameen Par actor went on to reveal that in the past, whenever he felt emotionally hurt, he would completely withdraw and not speak for several days. 'Sitaare Zameen Par" was a cinematic triumph, but in real life, Aamir admits he struggled with emotions.
Recalling a specific argument with Kiran Rao, he revealed how things escalated emotionally despite them sharing the same room. He said he was so hurt that he shut down completely—even when they were physically close.
'Bilkul response nahin kar raha… itna hard… 4th-day raat ko woh mujhse baat karne ki koshish kar rahi thi aur main bilkul jawab nahin de raha tha to ek point pe woh rone lagi aur unhone kaha mujhe samajh nahin aa raha main kya karun aap to bilkul respond hee nahin kar rahe ho."
He described the mix of feelings that held him back from making peace, even though he knew things had gone too far. 'Deep hurt …ego is a very right word for that," he admitted, reflecting on how stubbornness and pride kept him from forgiving or reaching out.
Aamir acknowledged that he wanted to resolve things, but his emotional state didn't allow him to take that first step toward reconciliation. It was only through therapy, he said, that he recognised this pattern within himself. He called it a red flag—his inability to forgive once he felt deeply hurt.
