Sushant Singh Rajput's father hopeful for 'justice'
The Bombay High Court is scheduled to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on February 19, which is expected to delve into a more detailed investigation into the deaths of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his former manager, Disha Salian.
The PIL demands the arrest and interrogation of Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray in connection with the two deaths under mysterious circumstances.
In an interaction with ANI on Saturday, late Sushant's father, KK Singh, expressed his hope of finding justice for his son under the new Maharashtra government.
"I hope that whatever comes out of the court will be right. And hopefully, it will come out soon. We hoped for justice with the CBI, but it didn't do its job on time. Now that it has come to the court, there is a hope that justice will be obtained. It is expected that the government is good. Whatever the current CM will do will be well and good. Yes, there is a lot of hope," he said.
The actor's father said it was a very emotional phase in his life after losing his young son. He reiterated that his son couldn't have died by suicide.
"It is natural to have an emotional moment of five years. There was only one boy. This happened to him. One can imagine what will happen to the father. We also listened to the media (about MLA Aditya Thackeray) but we don't know what the reality is. Now, it will be decided in the court about what the matter is. Those people will know. We can say that Sushant Singh would not have committed suicide," said KK Singh.
Sushant, 34, was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14, 2020, which created a huge controversy, with later the investigation being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
His postmortem report stated the cause of death was asphyxia. The postmortem was conducted at Mumbai's Cooper Hospital.
Now, almost five years after the death of the actor, the Bombay High Court is set to hear a PIL which was filed by Rashid Khan Pathan, President of the Supreme Court and High Court Litigants Association of India.
Sushant started his career as a theatre artist after dropping out of engineering college. He then entered TV serials in 2008 and ultimately became a full-fledged Bollywood star.
The actor made his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che. He gained a lot of fame and popularity after his career's biggest success, M.S Dhoni--The Untold Story.
His last big-screen appearance was Chhichhore, which was released in 2019 and was a hit.
The actor was last seen in director Mukesh Chhabra's Dil Bechara opposite Sanjana Sanghi, which was the official remake of the novel The Fault in Our Stars. The film came out on OTT a month after he died.

Kunal Kamra files petition against Mumbai Police report
Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking the quashing of the First Information Report (FIR) registered against him by the Mumbai Police. "Bail is a right for every citizen. I would request Kunal Kamra to be a part of the investigation and present the facts. We will present our facts, and whatever is right as per the law will take its own course," Kanal said. Kanal also wrote to BookMyShow, requesting the platform to halt ticket sales for Kamra's upcoming shows, citing concerns over the comedian's controversial content and its potential to disrupt public harmony. In addition to these developments, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police received a formal complaint from a Shiv Sena representative on April 3, demanding an investigation into Kamra's financial transactions. The complaint alleges that Kamra received funds from foreign sources linked to his content, raising questions about the origins of his income. Three separate cases have been registered against Kamra at the Khar Police Station, following complaints from the Mayor of Jalgaon, a hotelier, and a businessman from Nashik. These complaints pertain to his recent remarks, including a controversial joke allegedly referring to Eknath Shinde as a "gaddar" (traitor), which has further fueled the controversy. Earlier, the Madras High Court granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail until April 7, with conditions, after he sought transit bail, citing threats following his satirical comments.

Mob ransacks Indian comedy venue after Deputy CM of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde ridiculed
A mob ransacked a club in India's financial capital after a stand-up comedian ridiculed Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde from the stage, prompting a police investigation into the performer. Kunal Kamra, one of India's leading comics, is known for his acerbic commentary on Indian politics. His Sunday performance in Mumbai included a parody song referring to Eknath Shinde, the number two figure in the state government, as a "traitor". Soon after the show finished, supporters from Shinde's Shiv Sena party stormed The Habitat comedy venue and began wreaking havoc. Footage widely shared on social media showed dozens of men throwing chairs, smashing light fittings and breaking apart paintings mounted on the wall. At least 20 people were being sought in relation to the vandalism at the club, local media reported. The Habitat said in a Monday social media post that it was shutting its doors until it determined the "best way to provide a platform for free expression" without putting the venue "in jeopardy". Police were attempting to locate Kamra after an official complaint was registered against him for making defamatory remarks. Maharashtra state chief minister — and Shinde's boss — Devendra Fadnavis said the comedian "should apologise" and that "insult of leaders cannot be tolerated". "Everyone has a right to perform stand-up comedy. But freedom should not be unrestrained behaviour... Action will be taken against him as per the law," The Indian Express quoted him as saying. The "traitor" remark was a reference to Shinde's decision to switch his political allegiance in 2022, precipitating a weeklong political crisis in the state that forced the resignation of the then-chief minister. Kamra has yet to publicly comment on the incident, but the backlash against him is not the first time that an Indian comic has come under fire from supporters of politicians. In 2021, Muslim comedian Munawar Faruqui was held in prison for more than a month after being accused of insulting Hindu deities. He later cancelled three shows in Mumbai after a Hindu activist group threatened to set the venue on fire.

Indian cricketer Chahal and dancer Dhanashree part ways legally
A family court in Mumbai's Bandra on Thursday allowed a mutual consent divorce plea filed by Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma. Dhanashree and Chahal got engaged in 2020 and married in December of the same year in a private ceremony in Gurugram. "Divorce has been granted. The marriage has been dissolved. They are no longer husband and wife. The petition for divorce by mutual consent has been accepted,' Yuzvendra Chahal's lawyer told IANS. A day before, the Bombay High Court allowed an application filed by the estranged couple seeking waiver of the cooling-off period in their ongoing mutual consent divorce proceedings. A bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar of the Bombay HC directed the family court to decide the divorce petition on Thursday itself considering Chahal's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). The leg-spinner was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs18 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. The Justice Jamdar-led Bench took note of the fact that the parties had been living apart for over two and a half years and had duly complied with the consent terms regarding the payment of alimony arrived at during the mediation process. Under Hindu law, if the husband and wife have been living separately for one year or more, they may apply to obtain a decree of divorce by mutual consent. However, under Section 13B(2) of the Hindu Marriage Act, a statutory cooling-off period of at least six months from the date of presentation of the divorce petition is provided, to explore possibilities of settlement and reunion between the couple. The Supreme Court, in a landmark verdict in 2017, held that the 6-month cooling-off period is not mandatory, and the court may waive the condition if it is satisfied that there exists no possibility of parties resuming cohabitation. The 28-year-old dancer, Dhanashree is known for her fusion dance performances that blend traditional Indian dance forms with contemporary styles. Recently, Chahal was spotted amongst the spectators sitting next to social media star RJ Mahvash during the Champions Trophy Final.
