The Family Development Foundation (FDF) reaffirmed its commitment to promoting humanitarian values by celebrating the Zayed Humanitarian Day with members of the Emirates Humanitarian City, in honour of the founding father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The occasion reaffirmed FDF's commitment to upholding the philanthropic and humanitarian legacy he established in the UAE and globally.
The event also witnessed outstanding participation from Palestinian guests, who engaged in a range of educational and recreational activities aimed at promoting the principles of generosity and solidarity. Interactive competitions were featured in the event to encourage community participation and unity among the attendees, resulting in a positive and supportive atmosphere that complemented the special day.
Her Excellency Mariam Mohammed Al-Rumaithi, Director General of the Family Development Foundation , highlighted how the Zayed Humanitarian Day is an annual occasion to derive inspiration from late Sheikh Zayed's legacy of giving and tolerance. According to Her Excellency, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan fostered a culture of charity and humanity among Emiratis, establishing the nation as a global leader in humanitarian assistance. The Family Development Foundation puts this approach into action by promoting social cohesion and creating a welcoming environment for all groups, especially those who visit the city. H.E. Al-Rumaithi added that the FDF's participation in the event alongside guests of the Emirates Humanitarian City is in accordance with its mission to strengthen social responsibility and adhere to the sustainable humanitarian work model established by the late Sheikh Zayed.
Additionally, H.E. Al-Rumaithi explained that FDF's participation in the Zayed Humanitarian Day reflects the vision and directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, 'Mother of the Nation,' Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, which aims to instil humanitarian values and enhance the spirit of social cohesion among community members.
Mubarak Al-Qahtani, official spokesperson for the Emirates Humanitarian City, confirmed that the City values its guests and works to provide a safe and comprehensive environment that meets their humanitarian and social needs. In addition to providing housing and other amenities required to guarantee a stable and respectable life, the City provides comprehensive support through integrated services, such as healthcare, education, and psychological rehabilitation. Al-Qahtani also praised the FDF's efforts to assist and care for families and their well-being, as well as its excellent treatment of the City's humanitarian guests by offering them social and psychological support through a range of programs designed to meet their unique needs.
Wafa Al Ali, Acting Director of the Family Development Department at FDF, indicated that the FDF's participation in the Zayed Humanitarian Day aims to raise awareness among guests and provide individuals with psychological and social support, in line with its commitment to the humanitarian values embraced by the UAE. Al Ali pointed out that one of the most notable events hosted by FDF was the 'Zayed Humanitarian Library: Zayed's Legacy,' which highlighted the principles and values of charity instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. As a result, visitors had an opportunity to learn about the visionary leader's charitable legacy, and foster a culture of tolerance and solidarity among communities and cultures.

Eid begins in Gaza with outdoor prayers amongst ruins and food growing ever scarcer - War on Gaza

Palestinians across the war-ravaged Gaza Strip marked the start of one of Islam's most important holidays with prayers outside destroyed mosques and homes early Friday, with little hope the Israeli genocidal war will end soon. With much of Gaza in rubble, men and children were forced to hold the traditional Eid al-Adha prayers in the open air and with food supplies dwindling, families were having to make do with what they could scrape together for the three-day feast. 'This is the worst feast that the Palestinian people have experienced because of the unjust war against the Palestinian people,' said Kamel Emran after attending prayers in the southern city of Khan Younis. 'There is no food, no flour, no shelter, no mosques, no homes, no mattresses ... The conditions are very, very harsh.' The holiday begins on the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhul-Hijja, during the Hajj season in Saudi Arabia. For the second year, Muslims in Gaza were not able to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the traditional pilgrimage. Since the Israeli genocidal war in Gaza started on October 2023, the occupation army has killed more than 54,600 Palestinians, most of them women and children, with over 125,500 others injured, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The Israeli brutal war has destroyed large parts of Gaza and displaced around 90% of its population of roughly 2 million Palestinians. After blocking all food and aid from entering Gaza for more than two months, Israel began allowing a trickle of supplies to enter for the UN several weeks ago. But the UN says it has been unable to distribute much of the aid because of Israeli army restrictions on movements and because roads that the military designates for its trucks to use are unsafe and vulnerable to looters. The UN's Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome said Thursday that Gaza's people are projected to fall into acute food insecurity by September, with nearly 500,000 people experiencing extreme food deprivation, leading to malnutrition and starvation. 'This means the risk of famine is really touching the whole of the Gaza Strip,' Rein Paulson, director of the FAO office of emergencies and resilience, said in an interview. The UN says that the number of Gaza children facing acute malnutrition has soared since February, with more than 2,700 now suffering from it. Over the past two weeks, shootings have erupted nearly daily in the Gaza Strip in the vicinity of new hubs where desperate Palestinians are being directed to collect food. Witnesses say nearby Israeli troops have opened fire, killing more than 80 people. The US so-called Humanitarian Foundation, a newly formed group of mainly American contractors that Israel wants to use to replace humanitarian groups in Gaza that distribute aid in coordination with the UN, said Friday that all its distribution centers were closed for the day due to the ongoing Israeli violence. It urged people to stay away for their own safety, and said it would make an announcement later as to when they would resume distributing humanitarian aid. * This story was edited by Ahram Online. Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment Statement on World Environment Day June 5, 2025

On this World Environment Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to protecting our precious environment. Inspired by the vision of our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who recognised the link between a healthy environment and a thriving society, the UAE remains steadfast in its dedication to safeguarding our natural heritage. We envision a future with thriving ecosystems and protected life both on land and in the sea – a legacy we build together as a community. This year, World Environment Day calls for collective action to tackle plastic pollution, a challenge that demands our immediate attention and unified efforts. In response to this pressing issue, the UAE is implementing a comprehensive system to ensure proper and effective management of plastic products. Starting 1 January 2026, the UAE will implement a comprehensive ban on the import, production, and trade of single-use plastic products. This builds upon the phased approach initiated in 2024 with the ban on plastic bags. This decisive action underscores our resolve and commitment to environmental stewardship, driving us towards a future where waste and pollution are designed out of our systems. As part of our global efforts to reduce plastic waste, the Clean Rivers, one of Erth Zayed Philanthropies' initiatives, tackles plastic pollution in river systems by empowering communities and driving innovative solutions to create plastic-free waterways. Our Circular Economy Policy is a key driver of this transformation, optimising resource use in critical sectors such as green infrastructure, transportation, manufacturing, and responsible food production and consumption. The policy prioritises reducing plastic waste and promoting innovative solutions for sustainable packaging and recycling. Furthermore, we are resolutely committed to managing hazardous waste and aggressively reducing plastic waste at every level. Each of us, as responsible members of our community, can play a leading role in realising our nation's vision by joining the mission to eliminate unnecessary plastic from our daily lives. Let us become active agents of change, leading a powerful movement towards thriving communities, and a vibrant, resilient environment. Let us protect the land and the sea that are so integral to our lives, for ourselves, our loved ones, and for generations to come. Let us renew our focus on the ecosystems that sustain us, remembering that this year's theme, Beat Plastic Pollution, is a call to action for every member of our community. Together, we can build a brighter, greener future for all.

UAE sends over 1,000 tons of food aid to Gaza amid humanitarian crisis - War on Gaza

The UAE sent a new humanitarian aid convoy to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday as part of Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, state news agency WAM reported. The latest convoy delivered 1,039 tons of food supplies and flour as part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to support displaced Palestinians and address the worsening humanitarian crisis. The aid is intended to assist around 1.3 million people in the besieged enclave, where residents face growing shortages of essential goods after months of Israel's war. Under the same operation, the UAE has supported 31 bakeries across Gaza to ensure the continued supply of bread and basic food for families displaced by Israel's brutal war on Gaza. Despite ongoing logistical and security challenges, the UAE has pledged to sustain the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. According to WAM, the operation reflects the UAE's "longstanding and unwavering commitment" to supporting the Palestinian people. In mid-May, Israel slightly eased its blockade of Gaza after nearly three months, allowing a limited amount of humanitarian aid into the territory. Experts have warned that Gaza is at risk of famine if more aid is not brought in. UN agencies and major aid groups say Israeli restrictions, the breakdown of law and order, and widespread looting make it extremely difficult to deliver aid to millions of Palestinians in Gaza.
