Abu Dhabi's Yas Island is getting some seriously fancy Waldorf Astoria residences

If you thought Yas Island was already a hotspot, it's about to get even glitzier. Aldar has just announced it's partnering with Hilton to bring the very first Waldorf Astoria Residences to Abu Dhabi – and yep, they're landing right on Yas Island.
Set against the sweeping greens of Yas Links Golf Course and the iconic Yas Marina Circuit, these high-end branded residences are Aldar's latest move to dial up the luxury factor in the capital.
Think plush furnished apartments and penthouses with front-row views of the fairways – and possibly even race cars zooming past your balcony. F1 fans, you're going to want in on this.
It's the first branded residential development of its kind on Yas Island and the debut of the Waldorf Astoria brand in the emirate. That's a double win for Abu Dhabi's ever-growing luxury scene.

What's in store for future residents? Aside from über-stylish homes designed for the most discerning, there's direct access to all the Yas Island big-hitters – we're talking Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, Etihad Arena, Gardenia Bay's breezy promenade and the lush mangroves of West Yas.
The launch is coming up in the next few weeks and judging by the buzz, these residences won't be sitting on the market for long. The project also marks another tick in Hilton's global expansion of luxury-branded homes – Waldorf Astoria Residences are currently sprouting up across the world, including the relaunch of the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York next spring.
So, if you're in the market for luxury living with hotel-level service and Yas Island's top attractions on your doorstep, you might want to keep your eyes on this one.

DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island Announces Four Key Leadership Appointments

Sitting on the shores of Marjan Island, DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island continues to stand out in Ras Al Khaimah's competitive market for its seamless blend of relaxation and adventure. As the resort continues to evolve alongside emerging trends and guest preferences, four dynamic leaders join the team, each bringing fresh perspectives and unique expertise. With Ansen Sousa as Director of Human Resources, Mohamed Hegab as Director of Engineering, Erica Quintero as Quality Manager, and Mahesh Ariyanathan as Recreation Manager, the property is poised to further elevate both hotel operations and the overall guest journey. A seasoned professional with over 14 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Ansen Sousa joins the DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island team as the new Director of Human Resources. Throughout his career, Ansen has built a reputation as a passionate, results-driven leader who always puts his team first. Prior to this role, Ansen worked at several Hilton properties, most recently serving as HR Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton Sharjah Waterfront Hotel & Residences, where he oversaw over 200 team members, introduced a performance management system that boosted engagement and productivity, and modernised onboarding processes. In addition to this, Ansen is a certified Hilton and DoubleTree Brand Trainer and a recent recipient of the 2024 HRME Award for HR Department of the Year. Combining his proven track record with his deep understanding of the brand, Ansen is set to shape a workplace culture that empowers its team and reflects the brand's evolving vision. Also familiar with the brand, Mohamed Hegab will ensure the property's infrastructure continues to meet world-class standards as the new Director of Engineering. Always leading by example and maintaining open communication with his team members, Mohamed has spent the past 13 years in hospitality engineering and facility management across the UAE, Oman, and Egypt. Most recently, Mohamed's role as Chief Engineer at Hilton Garden Inn Dubai saw him recognised as Hilton EMEA's Engineering Leader of the Year 2023, while overseeing a range of high-impact projects, including integrating smart room controls, and leading major refurbishments. Now, Mohamed's forward-thinking approach and natural leadership skills will help shape the next chapter of DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island, enhancing operational efficiency, elevating sustainability efforts, and ensuring a seamless experience for every guest. Stepping into the role of Quality Manager, the property welcomes seasoned hotelier Erica Quintero. With over a decade of experience working in front-of-office operations for some of the most prestigious luxury hospitality brands in the UAE and Qatar, Erica tackles every challenge with empathy, adaptability, and results in mind. Fluent in four languages, she thrives in fast-paced multicultural environments and has successfully led guest-facing departments such as concierge, guest relations, and VIP services. Her skills also span revenue generation, leading and developing high-performing teams, and optimising operations through effective budget and expense management. In her new position, Erica will apply her 360-degree view of hospitality operations to work behind the scenes, driving quality assurance and service consistency at the resort, ensuring stays that not only meet but exceed guest expectations. As the final addition to the leadership team, Mahesh Ariyanathan assumes the role of Recreation Manager, bringing with him a decade of experience in the UAE's hospitality scene across both lifestyle and luxury properties. Leveraging a strong understanding of local guest preferences, Mahesh will oversee and enhance operations across the hotel's spa, recreation, and beach facilities. Always putting himself in the guest's shoes, he tackles each project with a focus on both creating standout experiences and driving operational performance. In his previous role, he managed recreation across four hotel brands, leading a cross-property team of over 40 employees, all while balancing the launch of a highly successful wellness programme. His leadership style, rooted in service, accountability, and team development, makes him a natural fit to elevate the resort's family-friendly offerings and deliver memorable moments for guests of all ages. Pieter Van Beugen, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island, shared, 'We are delighted to welcome such a strong group of professionals to our team. Their diverse backgrounds and fresh energy will undoubtedly play a key role in enhancing the guest experience across every touchpoint, continuing to raise the bar for hospitality in the region.' With these strategic appointments, DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa Marjan Island continues to strengthen its leadership team, ensuring that the property remains at the forefront of delivering world-class hospitality for many years to come.

Africa's hospitality growth: Empowering the next generation of leaders

Africa's hospitality industry is undergoing rapid expansion with more than 100,000 rooms currently under construction – that is a 13% increase from last year, according to W Hospitality's 2025 Africa development report. This growth is fuelled by a rising middle class, a young population, and a desire to travel and prioritise experiences over consumer goods – placing hospitality at the centre of the continent's development. Hilton is proud to be leading this charge. Since opening our first hotel in Africa more than 60 years ago, we have steadily expanded our presence and introduced more of our award-winning brands to meet evolving guest needs. Today, with 63 trading hotels and plans to more than double our presence, our commitment to the continent is unwavering. And at the heart of this growth are our team members – the driving force behind our success and the very heartbeat of our hospitality. According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), the travel and tourism sector supported a total of 357 million jobs globally in 2024 – that is about 1 in every 10 jobs. At Hilton, we believe travel and tourism is a powerful engine of opportunity for all. With 13,000 team members across Africa, we remain steadfast in our commitment to spreading the light and warmth of hospitality to our guests and in the communities we serve. Guided by Conrad Hilton's belief that travel should be a force for good, we're helping shape the future of hospitality by investing in people, creating opportunities, and strengthening the communities where we live, work, and travel. One of the most exciting initiatives we're supporting is the Future Leaders Challenge (FLC) – a programme that brings together students, educators, and industry professionals to foster innovation and collaboration in hospitality. Following successful multi-year editions in Morocco and South Africa, with over 330 future leaders completing the programme, the challenge has now launched in Kenya, expanding its reach into East Africa. But our commitment goes beyond traditional hospitality roles. It extends into the broader social and economic fabric of the communities where we operate. In Nigeria, we're unlocking entrepreneurial potential. Long-standing partnerships with Ace Charity and the National Youth Service Corps have empowered over 50 women entrepreneurs to build successful enterprises and supported more than 400 young professionals – several of whom now hold leadership roles at Hilton. In addition, last year, the Wavecrest College of Hospitality was named a Hilton Global Foundation grantee, providing young girls technical and vocational training for careers in the hospitality industry. Meanwhile, in the Seychelles, we are using education as a pathway to opportunity. Hilton's very own Fitir Academy programme has trained over 60 students since 2022 – with nearly half now working across our seven resorts. Most recently, we launched a new engineering apprenticeship programme in partnership with the Seychelles Institute of Technology, further investing in future-ready talent. In South Africa, long-standing academic partnerships are paving the way for employment. Since 2013, Hilton Durban has supported nearly 600 students with hands-on training and career opportunities in partnership with institutions including The International Hotel School, University of Zululand, HTA School of Culinary Arts, and Durban University of Technology. These efforts have strengthened industry-academic ties and helped place students in meaningful hospitality roles at Hilton and across the broader sector. These initiatives reflect our Purpose in action – the belief that long-term success is rooted in uplifting and investing in the communities where we operate. It's also why Hilton continues to be recognised as the world's leading hospitality company to work for. From upskilling youth to empowering women, the stories emerging from our teams are proof of what's possible when we live our Purpose and invest in people. This Africa Day, we reaffirm our commitment to being more than a hospitality operator. We are a catalyst for growth, a partner in progress, and a launchpad for Africa's future hospitality leaders. Together, we are building something bigger than ourselves: a bright and promising future for Africa.
