VW ID. Every1 Is an Affordable, All-Electric Compact EV

Volkswagen is showing off a concept battery-electric vehicle that is set to fill the hole in the brand's portfolio made with the Up!'s departure.
VW says a production version of the ID. Every1 should arrive in 2027.
The concept hatchback features a 94-hp motor that drives the front wheels.
Volkswagen Up! fans, it looks like VW isn't abandoning the small car after all. Instead, it appears Volkswagen is pushing the Up! successor into its battery-electric line of ID. cars.
Meet the Volkswagen ID. Every1—a spiritual successor to the VW Up!, which could have a production version as early as 2027 with an affordable entry price.
Powering this battery-electric show car is a 94-hp electric motor driving the front wheels. According to VW, this is good enough to jettison this concept car to its 81-mph top speed.
Volkswagen didn't give too many details about this concept's battery pack, but does note the production version will ride on the brand's front-wheel-drive MEB architecture and can travel 155 miles on a single charge.
More important than the powertrain, this all sits underneath the new ID. Every1 shell. This concept's footprint is roughly about the same length as a 1980 VW Golf at 152.8 inches.
This also puts it between the former VW Up! and VW Polo. The concept is 71.5 inches wide, which dwarfs the first-gen Golf's 63.4-inch-wide shell. It's also wider than the VW Polo.
On the inside, this show car could hint at the future of VW's ID. EVs. The dashboard is home to a large, central touchscreen, with the driver display integrated into the dashboard. The company says most of the fabric comes from recycled PET bottles.
Volkswagen says a production version of the ID. Every1 is coming in 2027 and should have a starting price of around 20,000 euros. Of course, it's hard to say if this VW will join the US lineup of BEVs, but judging by VW's ID. 7 sedan's fate, it might not be likely.
Do you think there's space in the US for a small, affordable EV like the VW ID. Every1? Tell us your thoughts below.

Costco cards good for 'hot dogs & rotisserie chickens,' not airports, TSA says

Costco cards good for 'hot dogs & rotisserie chickens,' not airports, TSA says The deadline for travelers to obtain a Real ID for domestic flights and accessing federal facilities was May 7. Show Caption Hide Caption Real ID explained: what it is, why it matters, and how to get yours Real ID requirements: everything you need to know about getting compliant for travel and ID. Costco memberships come with a variety of perks, including access to discounted products and services; however, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently debunked the rumor that customers' warehouse club cards substitute for a Real ID. TSA proclaimed in an X post on Wednesday, June 4: "We love hotdogs & rotisserie chickens as much as the next person but please stop telling people their Costco card counts as a REAL ID because it absolutely does not." TSA Pacific spokesperson Lorie Dankers told SFGate that the rumor of Costco cards being accepted as official identification pops up every year or so. When people try to use their warehouse club cards at airports, for instance, it could lead to delays and travel headaches, she added. Travel: You don't need a passport at these 7 US destinations that feel international As of May 7, travelers need a Real ID or other acceptable identification for domestic flights and accessing federal facilities. Those who haven't gotten one yet may be scrambling to figure out what they need to do before booking their next trip. One thing is for certain: They should probably leave their Costco membership cards at home. Here are the acceptable forms of identification, according to the TSA, as well as some background on how the most recent version of the Costco card rumor originated. Acceptable identification at the TSA checkpoint According to the TSA, valid forms of ID at airports include: Real ID-compliant driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent) A temporary driver's license is not an acceptable form of identification. State-issued Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) or Enhanced ID (EID) U.S. passport U.S. passport card DHS trusted traveler cards (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) U.S. Department of Defense ID, including IDs issued to dependents Permanent resident card Border crossing card An acceptable photo ID issued by a federally recognized Tribal Nation/Indian Tribe, including Enhanced Tribal Cards (ETCs) HSPD-12 PIV card Foreign government-issued passport Canadian provincial driver's license or Indian and Northern Affairs Canada card Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Employment Authorization Card (I-766) U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC) How did the Costco card rumor come back up? Food blog Chowhound claimed in the initial version of an article titled "How Your Costco Card Could Save You At The Airport," that people's Costco cards could pass through TSA because it is considered a photo ID. The article cited Reddit, where users claimed their warehouse club cards helped them through airport security when they forgot or lost their regular ID. On June 4, the day TSA debunked the rumor on social media, Chowhound issued an update to the article, saying, "A previous version of this article stated TSA is likely to accept a Costco membership card in lieu of a valid form of ID. TSA does not explicitly state you can use a Costco card as a form of identification, explaining, 'The TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process which includes collecting information such as your name and current address to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint, where you may be subject to additional screening.'" The update concludes with: "Now with the Real ID requirements, (a Costco card) is even less likely to get you through TSA quickly or successfully." If someone tried using a Costco card at an airport, they would likely be pulled from the TSA checkpoint line for further questioning about other personal information, such as their two previous home addresses, Dankers told SFGate. Ford's Hot Hatch Is Now Officially History

The end is here for Ford's last hot hatch as the company confirmed to Motor1 that every factory build slot for the Focus ST is spoken for. "All Focus ST factory orders until the end of production have now been reserved," European communications manager Finn Thomasen said. Dealers across the Continent may still have a few unclaimed cars hiding in back lots, but once those are gone-and when Focus production stops in November-the book will officially close on Ford's 45-year hot-hatch chapter. The Focus joins a growing list of Ford passenger cars already in the rear-view mirror. The Fiesta bowed out in 2023, the Mondeo in 2022, and the tiny Ka back in 2020. Without them, Ford's European portfolio is dominated by crossovers such as the Puma and Kuga. The shift has taken a bite out of sales: through April, Ford moved 149,601 vehicles in the EU, U.K., and EFTA markets-down 2.2% year-over-year and less than a third of Volkswagen's haul over the same period. Even Hyundai and Kia have pulled ahead, underscoring how much ground Ford has ceded without its affordable hatchbacks. Yes, the seventh-generation Mustang still flies the performance flag, but it's hardly a volume play. EU taxes punish engines bigger than two liters, dogging the 5.0-liter V-8, while the smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost was pulled from European order books at the end of 2020. The pony car, therefore, lives on as a niche halo, not a substitute for the daily-drivable, budget-friendly thrills once delivered by ST-badged Fiestas and Focuses. Whether Ford ever revisits the hot-hatch formula likely depends on batteries, not boost pressure. Former Ford of Europe boss-now VW sales chief-Martin Sanders has hinted that the Blue Oval could tap further into Volkswagen's MEB electric platform, the foundation for the forthcoming Explorer and Capri EVs. VW has already promised an electric GTI; a battery-fueled Fiesta ST or Focus ST revival isn't unthinkable if the economics line up. For now, though, enthusiasts must look to the used market or pivot to rival brands still flying the internal-combustion hot-hatch flag. The Fiesta Supersport of 1980 lit the fuse; the Escort RS, Fiesta XR2, and decades of ST variants kept the fire roaring. With the Focus ST's curtain call, the combustion-powered Ford hot hatch becomes history. What replaces it, if anything, will almost certainly hum rather than howl. Until that day arrives, the faithful will remember the glory years and, if they're lucky, snag one of the last STs before they're gone. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

FAW-Volkswagen to produce two new NEV models in Tianjin

FAW-Volkswagen, one of Volkswagen AG's main Chinese joint ventures, revealed plans to produce two new electric vehicle models based on its newly-developed Compact Main Platform (CMP) at its plant in Tianjin from 2027. The news follows the unveiling of three new passenger vehicle concept models based on its CMP - the and - at the Auto Shanghai 2025 show in April. The production plans were revealed following the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between FAW-Volkswagen and the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) government. The models will be designed specifically for the Chinese market, featuring the latest electrification and connected technologies. FAW-Volkswagen's Tianjin plant has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units. FAW-Volkswagen pointed out that the CMP platform represents 'a new generation of architecture independently developed in China at 'China speed' for tech-savvy local consumers.' The automaker claims to have shortened the development cycle for CMP-based vehicles by over 30% to keep up with fast-evolving competition in the local market. CMP-based models will include both battery-electric and plug-in hybrid drivetrains and will feature AI-powered cockpits, advanced driver-assistance systems, and over-the-air updates. Last month FAW-Volkswagen announced an internal restructuring programme in relation to its Volkswagen and Jetta brands, which have lost significant market share in China over the last several years as they struggled to keep up with the fast-growing NEV segment. Two new departments have been established, to speed up new product development and strengthen marketing operations.
