Slugger Adolis García sits again as Rangers look for him to make ‘mechanical changes' at plate
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Slumping Rangers slugger Adolis García was held out of Texas' lineup for the third consecutive day Sunday, with president of baseball operations Chris Young saying the club wants the 2023 ALCS MVP to make some mechanical changes.
'We need him to kind of commit to some of these changes that we think will get him back to the '23 version of himself and help him be the player that we know he can be,' Young said before Texas' series finale against St. Louis.
García is hitting .155 in the last 20 games with 25 strikeouts. He is hitting .207 overall, with seven homers and a team-high 27 RBIs on a team that has struggled offensively. He ranked 14th in the majors with 122 home runs over the past four seasons.
García, who has started 55 of Texas' 60 games in right field this season, missed only one other game before this weekend, with manager Bruce Bochy saying Friday that García was being given a mental break.
'It's about the mental reset and coming back with more energy,' García told reporters Saturday. 'I'm working on some stuff without the pressure of having to do something up there.'
García, 32, is in the final year of a two-year contract.

The anticipated return of Evan Carter to the active roster on Tuesday, joining Wyatt Langford, Alejandro Osuna and Sam Haggerty, further crowds the field of Rangers outfield regulars as García tries to return to the lineup.
'It's going to be performance-driven at this point,' Young said.
Texas also made three roster moves before Sunday's game. Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (triceps fatigue) was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to last Thursday to allow him to start late this week, catcher Tucker Barnhart was designated for assignment and right-hander Codi Heuer was selected from Triple-A Round Rock.

French Open: Novak Djokovic is certainly no dark horse to quarterfinal foe Alexander Zverev
PARIS (AP) — For all of Novak Djokovic's titles (100 in all) and Grand Slam trophies (24) and weeks at No. 1 (428, more than anyone else in tennis history), for all of his talent and determination, the guy still can find himself worrying about what is going on with his game. Happened a little more than a month ago, even, when he was coming off three consecutive losses — his second skid of that length in 2025 — and was particularly concerned about being 0-2 on red clay this season as the start of the French Open approached. So Djokovic decided to enter the Geneva Open and what do you know? He hasn't lost since, going 8-0 heading into his quarterfinal matchup against No. 3 Alexander Zverev at Roland-Garros on Wednesday. After leaving Geneva with the championship, Djokovic not only has won his first four matches in Paris, but has yet to drop a set. 'It happens if you lose a match or two consecutively, and then you don't feel you have enough match play, you start to maybe doubt your game. You don't want to be in that state of the mind coming into Grand Slams,' the 38-year-old Serb said. 'So I'm just glad it all turned out to be perfect for me, in that sense.' He and Zverev, a 28-year-old German, know each other quite well, on a court and off. This will be their 14th head-to-head contest on tour dating to 2017 — Djokovic holds an 8-5 advantage — and first since meeting in the semifinals at the Australian Open in January. That one ended after just one set: Djokovic stopped playing because of an injured hamstring, drawing boos from the ticket-buyers, and Zverev defended him. Their only previous encounter in Paris came back in 2019, and Djokovic won their quarterfinal in three sets. When Zverev, who credits Djokovic with serving as something of a mentor, looked ahead to Wednesday, he said: 'It's always a privilege to be on court with him.' The other quarterfinal Wednesday will be No. 1 Jannik Sinner against unseeded Alexander Bublik, the first man from Kazakhstan to get this far at any Grand Slam tournament. The first two men's quarterfinals were scheduled for Tuesday and, surprisingly, each one involved an American: defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain vs. No. 12 Tommy Paul, and No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti of Italy vs. No. 15 Frances Tiafoe. LSU rallies to win Baton Rouge Regional 10-6 over Cinderella Little Rock
BATN ROUGE, La. (AP) — Ethan Frey went 4 for 4 and drove in four runs, Luis Hernandez hit two solo home runs and Casan Evans put on a show out of the bullpen as LSU rallied to defeat upstart Little Rock 10-6 to win the Baton Rouge Regional on Monday night. Little Rock was bidding to become the first team with a losing record to reach a super regional. As it is, the Trojans are the first team with a losing record to make a regional final, which they forced with a 10-4 win over the Tigers — seeded sixth overall — Sunday night. Now LSU (46-15) will host unseeded West Virginia, winner of the Clemson Regional, next weekend. Evans entered the game in the bottom of the second inning as Little Rock (27-34), which entered the postseason with a 19-32 record, was building a 5-1 lead. He threw a career high 109 pitches over six innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts, including nine straight. Evans' performance allowed the Tigers to get back in the game. Frey had a solo home run in the first inning and then hit a two-out three-run double in the fourth to bring LSU within 5-4. Hernandez homered to tie it in the sixth and his homer in the eighth extended the lead to 7-5. Evans walked the bases loaded in the seventh but didn't allow a run. He gave up a couple singles to start the eighth before leaving and the Trojans made it a one-run game on an RBI single by Alex Seguine. Gonzalez and Williams homer as Miami takes Hattiesburg Regional 5-4 over Southern Miss
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Dorian Gonzalez Jr. and Derek Williams hit home runs and Miami won the Hattiesburg Regional with a 5-4 decision over Southern Mississippi on Monday night. The Hurricanes go to the best-of-three Louisville Super Regional with a College World Series berth on the line. The Cardinals won the Nashville Regional hosted by No. 1 overall seed Vanderbilt. Southern Mississippi, which lost its regional opener to Columbia 11-4, got revenge for that game with an 8-1 win and Sunday night topped Miami 17-6 to force the deciding game. Miami (34-25) had nine hits and they were bunched well. Williams had a solo home run in the first inning. In the fifth, after a two-out single by Michael Torres, Jake Ogden had an RBI double and Max Galvin drove Ogden home with a single to make it 3-1. Gonzalez had his home run leading off the sixth and then Torres had a two-out single for a 5-1 lead. Matthew Russo had a run-scoring single in the fourth to tie the game and Tucker Stockman drove in a run in the seventh for the Golden Eagles (47-16). Carson Paetow hit a two-run, two-out homer in the ninth before Brian Walters got the last out for his 10th save. Will Smith (3-0) pitched the middle three innings for the win. Matthew Adams (6-4) gave up three runs in 4 2/3 innings but struck out nine. Landen Payne pitched the last three innings, allowing a hit and with five strikeouts. ___ AP college sports:
