Halstead cat Cleo joins Essex Police patrol
There was a new face on the beat after a cat jumped into a police response vehicle in a bid to escape rainy weather.Cleo, a Maine Coon, hopped into the Essex Police patrol car in Halstead, with officers stating she "made herself right at home" by "sharpening her claws on the seats" and "grooming herself on the parcel shelf".Her owner, Carly Thomson, said three-and-a-half-year-old Cleo was no stranger to adventure and often invited herself into the local cinema, bingo hall and gym.Essex Police said: "It looks like Cleo enjoyed her little adventure with us, and we were more than happy to have her company!"
Ms Thomson, 32, said Cleo was "the most famous cat in all of Halstead", adding that she even had her own Facebook page documenting her explorations.She said: "You always see her in front of the Empire Cinema, she goes into the cinema, she goes and plays bingo with all the regulars, she goes in the gym on the yoga mats, sits in the football ground."There's a car garage place just down the road and she's in there all the time. I even had to do her flea treatment in there, because she was due to have it and that's where she was! She was on the top of a car roof while they were working on it."
Reflecting on Cleo's latest adventure, Ms Thomson said: "It was funny, the police officer messaged me direct, she said Cleo jumped in the police car and was enjoying herself! "Then she [Cleo] came home and slept in my daughter's bed all night before going back out on her adventures."The community look out for her, if anything was to happen to her then people know."

She told how she's had 'scary' people turn up at her shop in Essex and send her terrifying letters. She told how it 'played havoc on her mind' and was the reason she stepped away from her front of house work at her boutique in Brentwood. Appearing on the Daily Mail's Everything I Know About Me Podcast, Gemma said: 'No one would believe the bl**dy crap I've had to deal with. 'I've had a woman stalker that wrote me a letter in white gloves and wanted to kill me. 'You know, people would wish me dead. I'd get all sorts turn up at the shop. Weird. People are weird. And that's why in a way I came away from my shop in the end.' In 2019, Gemma was forced to move out of her home in Essex over stalking fears, with removal vans being pictured at the property at the time. Gemma explained that her condition had been leaving her breathless 'really quickly' but due to medics diagnosing it as viral, antibiotics would be ineffective. She told The Mirror: 'It's shocking, I've had it now for over three weeks and I had steroids given to me by my doctor. It was DJ Fat Tony's wedding and I had to take them to get through that,' 'But I'm off them now and the sickness is really kicking back in. It's so frustrating because I normally have so much energy and I'm always loving life, but now I get really breathless really quickly and I feel like I'm dying.' Pneumonia is inflammation of the lungs, usually caused by an infection. Most people get better in two to four weeks, but babies, older people, and people with heart or lung conditions are at risk of getting seriously ill and may need treatment in hospital. One post that showed a drip in her arm read: 'I'm having to take it easy which is not like me very slow and get so out of breath and tired so quick.' WHAT IS PNEUMONIA? Tactic people smugglers use to get young male migrants past French cops onto dinghies to UK revealed
PEOPLE smugglers are using women and children as human shields in a diversion tactic to get past French police - before mostly men make it onto a dinghy. Families with young babies and kids were put at the front of the queue of migrants entering the vast beach from the sand dunes in Gravelines, near Calais, yesterday with young men trailing behind. 1 The diversionary tactics meant the 40 police officers, armed and waiting with pepper spray and tear gas, remained calm and did not use force against the group straight away to avoid injuring the children. Instead, officers kettled the group and successfully marched them off back into the sand dunes. But, when the time was right and the police thought they had taken the group off the beach, a group of mostly men suddenly sprinted off into the sand dunes before making a break for it back onto the beach. Most of the migrants with children did not return to the beach. It comes after senior Labour minister Darren Jones was slammed after suggesting on BBC's Question Time that the majority of migrants entering by small boats that he had seen were women and children. A dramatic cat and mouse game followed yesterday with tear gas being fired over Gravelines beach in an attempt to keep migrants away from the sea. But they failed to stop a nearby dinghy from picking up the migrants and it left for British shores with mostly men on board. It comes after official figures showed that more than 919 people crossed the Channel in small boats on Friday on 14 dinghies - averaging around 66 people per boat. It has taken the provisional annual total to 16,183, which is 42 per cent higher than the same point last year and 79 per cent up on the same date in 2023. The highest daily number so far this year was 1,195 on May 31.
