German league to trial referees announcing VAR decisions to stadium
Jan 27 (Reuters) - The German Football League (DFL) is launching a pilot project where referees will explain VAR decisions to the stadium spectators via loudspeakers starting on Saturday, the governing body said in a statement.
Nine clubs have volunteered to participate in the project including Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen and leaders Bayern Munich, with the public announcement procedure set to feature in five matches this weekend, the DFL said on Monday.
The project will aim for further transparency in refereeing decisions, the DFL added. The public announcement procedure was also used in the English League Cup's semi-finals earlier this month.
Second-tier side Fortuna Dusseldorf's home game with SSV Ulm on Saturday will be the first match in Germany to feature the procedure, ahead of this weekend's home fixtures of Bayern, St Pauli, Leverkusen and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Borussia Dortmund, Freiburg, RB Leipzig and Greuther Fuerth are also part of the project.

£700k midfielder signs, Triantis returns, ex-hero joins - Hibs dream XI if transfer rumours are true
The transfer window will open in a matter of days, and already the rumours around the Scottish Premiership have started, with Hibs no exception after their impressive campaign last year. Set to play in European competition next season, head coach David Gray was able to turn a relegation fight into a revolution, taking the Leith outfit from the bottom of the table all the way to top three, beating Celtic and Rangers on the way. Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller have had their contracts extended by a further year, though doubts remain over key defender Rocky Bushiri, with his contract expiring this summer. A number of names have been linked with Hibs already this summer, as the club eye up another top three finish. But what would Gray's starting XI look like when the new season gets underway on August 2, if the recent transfer rumours are true? Here, The Scotsman assess what Hibs dream team could look like, if the recent transfer rumours are accurate - which can never be guaranteed, with multiple twists and turns expected in the summer transfer window. 1 . Jadon Sancho's preferred club tells him they are not interested in transfer
Borussia Dortmund have told Jadon Sancho they cannot offer him a route back to the club this summer. Sancho has returned to Manchester United after Chelsea opted against signing him on a permanent deal following a season on loan at Stamford Bridge, paying a £5million penalty to avoid keeping him at the club. Ruben Amorim has no plans to integrate Sancho back into the first-team at Old Trafford. The 25-year-old has one year left on his deal thought to be worth around £300,000-a-week with United desperate to offload him on a permanent basis this summer. After being banished from the squad by Erik ten Hag, Sancho returned to former club Dortmund in January 2024, showing slight glimpses of his once fearsome form as the Bundesliga side reached the Champions League final. A return to Dortmund is reportedly Sancho's preferred option – but his former side are focusing on other priorities this summer. Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a move for Sancho with the club searching for a replacement for Florian Wirtz who is poised to complete a record move to Liverpool. 'Of course, contact with Jadon is always there, in some way, because we have a very long history,' Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl said. 'But it's not an issue for us right now. We have other priorities at the moment, and that's why the Sancho issue was probably played up more in the media than discussed internally.' More Trending However, the appointment of ten Hag as Xabi Alonso's replacement would surely scupper those plans given the history between the Dutchman and Sancho. United will take a huge hit on the £71m they paid to side Sancho five years if they do manage to offload him this summer. A loan deal could be a more likely option with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Tottenham named as three clubs monitoring his situation. United meanwhile are also hoping to offload Marcus Rashford and Antony. The England international is still holding out for a dream move to Barcelona while Real Betis, where Antony shone on loan last season, are not thought to be in a position to meet United's asking price for a permanent move. Fresh Florian Wirtz transfer talks emerge as Leverkusen eye Liverpool star
Liverpool are already making moves in the transfer market as they seek more star power to bolster Arne Slot's title-winning squad ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 campaign Liverpool mean business in the summer transfer window. And after swiftly securing a replacement for the outgoing Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Reds are now closing in on a British record transfer. Arne Slot and Co are in a strong position after winning the Premier League and will be out to defend their domestic crown. The Dutchman will be given the funds to strengthen the squad after predominantly working with the same group of players he inherited from Jurgen Klopp last summer. While the focus is on incomings, a number of outgoings are expected, too. Darwin Nunez could be the biggest name to depart with Liverpool weighing up a move for a new No.9. With things heating up, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer news and gossip from in and around Anfield... READ MORE: Fresh Wirtz talks We're getting closer to a deal but talks between Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen are ongoing over the finer details of the monstrous package that will see Florian Wirtz head to Anfield. The Reds will not be meeting the £126million price tag that Leverkusen have slapped on their sought-after star. But they are prepared to offer the Bundesliga outfit a guaranteed £100m, with the deal likely to eclipse the current British transfer record with add-ons. Talks are set to continue with a deal edging closer... Leverkusen eye Quansah There has been plenty of speculation that players could be included in a deal to get Wirtz over the line and Bayer Leverkusen have now been credited with an interest in Jarrel Quansah. The Athletic have confirmed that the £40million-rated centre half is indeed on the German outfit's radar, with Leverkusen in the market for a new defender. Any deal for Quansah would be separate to the blockbuster one involving Wirtz, who will likely become the most expensive Premier League player of all-time should a move to Anfield be finalised. Leverkusen are in the market for a new central defender after losing Jonathan Tah on a free transfer to Bayern Munich. Kerkez gets green light for move Milos Kerkez has been given the green light to join Liverpool - by his Bournemouth team-mate, Justin Kluivert. Kerkez is known to be the Reds' top target as they seek another left-back. Talks over a deal with one of the Cherries' star performers are ongoing with Kerkez keen on joining Arne Slot's side. And Kluivert has now told Voetbal Primeur: 'He'll probably go there. I hope so for him. He hasn't really said goodbye yet, but I hope he'll make it happen there.'
