Autopsy report for Duval Co. jail inmate complete amidst ongoing investigation
It's been over 2 months since Duval County jail inmate Charles Faggart died following an incident at the jail.
We have learned that the state attorney's office has received a copy of the medical examiner's report; however, right now, they are not releasing it as their office is still investigating.
On April 7th, Duval County Jail inmate Charles Faggart was transported to a Jacksonville hospital in critical condition following an incident at the jail.

The next day, JSO Sheriff TK Waters said as a result of the incident, 8 JSO corrections officers and 1 corrections sergeant were removed from their positions and stripped of their corrections authority.
On April 10th, Faggart was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Since then, Action News Jax has been following up with JSO, the medical examiner's office, and the state attorney's office to see if the investigation is complete.
Earlier this week, I asked JSO if its portion of the investigation is complete. A spokesperson replied:
'The case continues to be active, and we await follow-up from the SAO in their portion of the investigation.'

'Normally, once it is referred over to the state attorney's office, it's probably a pretty safe assumption that the police have concluded their side of the investigation. Usually that's how it goes,' said Chris Carson, a defense attorney.
Chris Carson is a defense attorney in Jacksonville. I asked him what he thought would happen with the state attorney's investigation.
'My sense is that we're probably waiting on what I would expect are some of the more experienced prosecutors within the state attorney's office and probably some of the higher ups to actually review what has been provided to them and ultimately make a decision on whether there should be formalized criminal charges going towards anyone who was involved in the incident,' said Carson.

Nine corrections officers were removed from the jail a day after Faggart was taken to the hospital. Last month, Sheriff T.K. Waters told us that doesn't mean anyone was guilty of a crime.
'It was to say that we need to investigate this process,' said Sheriff Waters. 'We need to investigate it fully and make sure that we provide the public and that young man's family with the right answers.'
There has been no word on when the State Attorney's office investigation will be completed.
We reached out to the attorney representing the Faggart family, but she declined to comment.,

Caught on camera: Man hit by driver at Southside car meet
Video circulating on social media shows the moment a man was hit by a driver at a car meet in a Southside parking lot. Witnesses said that it was supposed to be just a 'park and chill' type of meet. He said he had a head injury, but is now recovering. We asked JSO if they are investigating the incident, and a spokesperson said they were not aware of the incident or the video. We also requested reports Friday afternoon to see if police responded to the area the night this happened. We are waiting to hear back. As a member of the local car community, Ferrill said they don't stand for any kind of reckless behavior at their meets. ‘That's evil': Family with jailed loved one says they lost $400 to bail scam
A family is warning people about a scam that preys on the excitement of a loved one being released from jail. But in their case, there was no happy reunion. Channel 2's Tom Jones spoke to one family that was excited their loved one was coming home and quickly forked over hundreds of dollars to someone who said they worked at the jail. It was a scam. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] 'That's evil, because we been waiting on my brother to come home almost three years,' Stephanie Rushing said. Rushing thought her and her families' dreams had come true and her brother was going to be released from the Clayton County jail that night. That's what a sergeant at the jail told them. 'And if we paid the 400 dollars he could get out,' she said. Of course, the family immediately paid the so-called sergeant at the jail. 'We paid him Cash App,' Rushing said. Then, their loved one called them. They told him he was being released. He knew nothing about it. 'So then he went to talk to the people at the desk, and they told him that we have been scammed,' Rushing said. This type of scam is happening at jails around the metro area. Someone in Paulding County emailed Channel 2 Action News, saying it happened to them. 'Please note that this is a scam. No such program exists,' Magistrate Court Judge Latrevia Kates-Johnson said from the bench recently. Rushing's family found that out after forking over $400,money they didn't have to throw away. Rushing said people can be so cruel. 'So you're tugging on somebody's heartstrings about their loved ones coming home. And knowing its just a scam,' she said. Rushing says after the scam call from the jail, she got a call from someone saying they were with a bonding company. She called the bonding company, and they told her it was a scam. Rushing thinks it has to be someone from the jail scamming people since the scammer called right after her brother was booked. Blackshear couple arrested in connection with the death of their baby, drug possession: GBI
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced this month that it arrested a Blackshear couple during an investigation into the death of their baby. GBI said that Dustin Sauls, 41, and Cierra Chancey, 36, are charged with concealing death and possessing cocaine in connection with the death of their 6-month-old child. The Baxley Police Department, located in Appling County, had first requested the assistance of GBI in the case more than two years ago, in September 2022. GBI said that preliminary information indicated that Sauls and Chancey delayed reporting the baby's death and had cocaine at the time. An autopsy was later completed by the GBI Medical Examiner's Office. Arrest reports obtained by Action News Jax show they were taken into custody by the Pierce County Sheriff's Office on May 30 while deputies were serving the out-of-county felony warrants. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< After conducting a search of their home on Radcliff Circle, the parents were arrested on the warrants and in addition to several new drug-related charges, including possession of cocaine and two charges each of possessing a Schedule III controlled substance. GBI said the investigation is still ongoing.
