'You May Be Kamal Haasan...': Karnataka High Court On Kannada Language Row

The Karnataka High Court slammed Kamal Haasan over his "Kannada was born from Tamil" remark, saying it hurt public sentiment, and observing that an apology would have ended it all.
The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday strongly pulled up actor and filmmaker Kamal Haasan for his recent remark suggesting that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil".
The court began hearing petitions seeking direction to authorities, including the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce, not to take any measures–to restrain or refrain from screening and releasing the actor's movie 'Thug Life', which is scheduled for release on June 5.
Criticising his remark strongly, the court observed that a single apology could have resolved the situation.
Justice M Nagaprasanna, who presided over the hearing, said that the statement had hurt the sentiments of the people of Karnataka and questioned Haasan's refusal to offer an apology.
Here are the quotes by the Karnataka High Court bench.
'You may be Kamal Haasan or anybody, you cannot hurt the sentiments of the masses"
'A public figure cannot make such statements. What has happened because of it is unrest, disharmony"
'On what basis have you made the statement? Are you a historian, linguist? On what basis did you speak?"
'You are seeking protection for the release of your film. An apology would have done"
'You know the importance of the film, saying it is made by (filmmaker) Mani Ratnam, but you cannot make a statement (apology)"
'For your own creation, you want police machinery to support now. Language is a sentiment attached to the people. You are not an ordinary man, you are a public figure. People writing on social media are also being investigated"
'Fundamental right of speech and expression cannot be stretched to hurt sentiments of the masses"
'You apologise, you want to earn from here"
'Due to a slip of the tongue, anything can happen. Spoken words cannot be taken back, but they can be apologised for. You cannot unscramble a scrambled egg"
Kamal Haasan's remark that 'Kannada was born out of Tamil" made at the audio release of his film in Chennai in the last week of May, stoked a controversy, triggering protests in the neighbouring state.
The South India Artistes' Association defended him, claiming he aimed to promote unity.

When Amitabh Bachchan commended Aishwarya Rai's strength during Aaradhya's birth: ‘She had to struggle but…'

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are one of Bollywood's most admired couples, known not just for their star power, but also for their deep bond and family values. Their love story took a special turn in 2007 when they got engaged on 14 January at the Bachchan home, followed by a beautiful wedding on 20 April that same year. But it was in 2011 that the couple stepped into a whole new chapter, parenthood. The arrival of their daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan , marked a joyous occasion not only for Abhishek and Aishwarya , but for the entire Bachchan family. And no one was prouder than Aaradhya's grandfather, Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan . Big B stepped out with a big smile Soon after Aaradhya's birth, both Amitabh and Abhishek came out of their home, Jalsa, to meet the media and share the joyous news. It was during this interaction that Big B spoke about whom the baby resembled. He said, "It seems to me that she looks like Aishwarya. But as you all know, children's faces change daily. I still believe she looks like Aishwarya. Some people in the family think she resembles Jaya or Abhishek a little. " At that point, the family had not yet decided on the baby's name, but their excitement and joy were clear to see. On taking over the grandfather duties Amitabh also revealed that he had recently finished filming for his show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' and had no new projects lined up at the time. He said, "I am free now. 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' is over and I don't have any films at the moment. So I'm free, and I will now stay at home." Abhishek quickly added that his father would now be spending time at home to look after his granddaughter. Aishwarya's powerful labour journey The most moving part of the story came when Amitabh spoke about Aishwarya's strength during childbirth. His admiration for her was full of respect and pride. He shared, "She had to struggle but I commend her that she was in acute labour for a long time, almost 2-3 hours. But she persisted and said she wanted a normal delivery. She did not use any epidural or painkiller." In a time when many opt for medical relief during childbirth, Aishwarya's decision to go through the pain naturally stood out. Big B's words reflected not just her courage, but also the deep respect he had for her as his daughter-in-law.
