‘He's Going To Be': James Anderson Backs Yashasvi Jaiswal For Long-Term Success Ahead Of Test Series

India.com4 hours ago

As India prepares to lock horns with England in the first Test at Headingley, both teams are eyeing a commanding start to their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle. With fresh leadership and emerging talents, this series promises to be a defining moment for both sides.
James Anderson's Praise for Yashasvi Jaiswal
Ahead of the high-stakes series, former England great James Anderson showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal, identifying him as a player with the temperament and skill to shine for years to come. Despite retiring from international cricket earlier this year, Anderson continues to be a respected voice in the cricketing world.
'Incredibly impressed. For such a young guy, the maturity he showed when he batted during the 2024 series in India stood out to me. He's got a huge range of shots, a lot of options when batting, but the way he used them, calmly and effectively, was remarkable,' Anderson said in a conversation with Sky Sports.
'The way he built his innings and remained composed shows he's going to be a great player for India for years to come,' he added.
A New Chapter for Team India
With the legendary duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stepping away from Test cricket, India enters a new era under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. The young skipper is tasked with leading a transitional squad full of potential and promise. Among the brightest sparks are Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan, both of whom now have the golden opportunity to establish themselves as core members of India's red-ball setup. The Headingley Test could mark the beginning of a long-term journey for these rising stars, with Indian fans hoping they seize the moment.
Big Names, Big Stakes
This series isn't just about rebuilding or fresh starts; it also features some of the biggest names in world cricket. For England, the likes of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Ollie Pope will be key, while India will look to Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and emerging batters like Jaiswal and Gill to set the tone.
With the Headingley pitch known to favor fast bowlers early on and provide good bounce and carry, the opening Test could be a thrilling contest between bat and ball. Both teams will be eager to take an early lead and set the tone for the rest of the WTC cycle.

Indian captains in England: Win-loss percentage, stats & track record before Shubman Gill's 2025 ENG tour

Indian captains in England, win-loss record: Newly anointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill will face perhaps his biggest challenge in his very first tour as India is all set to play England in a five-match Test series starting from Friday, with the Headingley in Leeds. Gill was made the Test captain after Rohit Sharma announced that he would hang up his boots in this format. The development was then succeeded by the shock retirement of one of the greatest players of this generation, Virat Kohli. The void left by these two batting greats will be a tough one to fill, as India have gone on with young talents to face mighty England. India holds a poor record in Tests in England. Out of 67 Tests between the two nations in England, India have only managed to win just nine of them. Gill will be the 18th Indian to lead his side in England. Before Gill, 17 different players have led the Indian side in England, with only six of them leading the side to a win. CK Nayudu was the first Indian captain to tour England. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni (both nine Tests) have captained India for the most time in England. Under Kohli, India have won three Tests, the highest under any Indian skipper. 1983 World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev holds the best winning percentage among any Indian captains in England. Under Kapil, India won two out of three Tests, resulting in a win percentage of 66.66. Among all six Indian captains who have won a Test in England, Dhoni has the worst winning percentage of just 11.11. Under Dhoni, India have lost eight out of nine Tests there. The Indian side has only won three series in England. The first one came under Ajit Wadekar in 1971, when India beat England 1-0 in the three-match Test series. In 1986, India handed England a 2-0 defeat in a three-match series under Kapil before winning their last series on England's soil in 2007 under Rahul Dravid. Under Kohli, India were leading the five-match Test series 2-1 after the fourth Test when the series was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. When the series resumed after a break of one year, India lost the final Test under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy, ultimately resulting in a 2-2 series draw.

Meet Dhoni's sister, Jayanti Gupta, married to former CSK captain's best friend, her husband is…, she works as..

MS Dhoni, the heartthrob of all the CSK supporters, is undoubtedly one of the most famous cricketers in the world. He has a massive number of fans across several social media platforms. MS Dhoni might not frequently post on social media, but he always steals the spotlight whenever he does. Interestingly, not many know that Dhoni has an elder sister named Jayanti Gupta. Jayanti Gupta shares a wonderful bond with her chhota bhai. Over the years, Jayanti has taken an inspirational yet supportive role, playing a quiet but integral part in the shaping of Dhoni's remarkable journey to success. Having been raised in a middle-class family where his father worked a modest government job, MS Dhoni would have never thought big. But he had his elder sister, Jayanti Gupta, the firstborn of Pan Singh Dhoni and Devaki Devi, standing behind him every step of the way. She motivated him to follow his cricket dreams, kept him grounded, and helped him stay focused and determined despite the challenges. Jayanti Gupta, MS Dhoni's sister, was instrumental in convincing their father to let Dhoni follow a career in cricket. The former Team India captain is believed to be three to four years younger than his sister, Jayanti. Like the rest of the family, Jayanti prefers to stay out of the limelight. As per media reports, she's an English teacher at a public school situated in Ranchi. She is married to Gautam Gupta. Gautam is also from Ranchi and is one of Dhoni's close friends.

Trevor Sinclair, part of India's coaching staff at AFC Asian Cup, declared bankrupt

Former England footballer Trevor Sinclair has been declared bankrupt after a judge accused him of 'burying his head in the sand' for failing to pay a five-figure amount related to his media work in 2021 and 2022. Sinclair, a 2002 World Cupper with the Three Lions, joined the Indian men's team as part of its coaching staff during the AFC Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar, in January 2024. However, the team failed to score any goals and exited in the group stage after losses to Australia, Uzbekistan, and Syria. The Englishman is currently part of the coaching staff of the senior men's team of Jamaica. Sinclair, who played 360 Premier League matches for clubs like West Ham, Manchester City, and Queens Park Rangers, was issued the bankruptcy order at Central London County Court on June 12. The court heard that Sinclair owed £36,424 to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), including more than £13,000 related to his work as a television and radio pundit. Judge Caroline Wilkinson presided over the case and granted the bankruptcy order in the former player's absence. She stated, 'Mr Sinclair is not in attendance today, and no proposals have been put forward for paying his debt. In the circumstances, the court finds that Mr Sinclair is unable to pay his debts as they fall due and it will make the bankruptcy order.' Sinclair has yet to issue a public statement regarding the bankruptcy.
