The Aspetar International Radiology Conference commenced on Saturday at Aspetar. The event brought together leading radiology experts, and healthcare professionals from across the globe, further establishing Aspetar's reputation as a leader in sports medicine.
The conference, organised in collaboration with the International Skeletal Society, features a robust scientific program blending the latest theoretical advances with practical, skill-building workshops.
With sessions covering cutting-edge topics such as MRI and ultrasound diagnostics, imaging-guided interventions, and the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical practice, the gathering reflects Aspetar's commitment to advancing musculoskeletal health.

Saturday's proceedings began with a comprehensive session on knee imaging and intervention. Experts examined the classification of posterolateral corner knee injuries, outlined the imaging requirements crucial for knee surgeons, and discussed the growing use of imaging-guided interventional treatments.
Dr. Ramy Mansour, a member of the International Skeletal Society, presented the latest advancements in diagnosing knee injuries among football players. Dr. Alan Getgood, Aspetar's chief of Surgery, shared his insights on the imaging needs for cruciate and meniscal tears, while Dr. Guillaume Bierry, also from the International Skeletal Society, focused on acute and post-operative ACL imaging. Dr. Maryam Al-Naimi of Aspetar demonstrated the clinical applications of PRP, steroid, and hyaluronic acid injections, and Dr. Bruce Forster addressed the critical role imaging plays during major sporting events.
Throughout the day, additional sessions delved into nerve imaging, dynamic imaging, imaging appropriateness, bone imaging, upper limb imaging, and the latest developments in muscle and cartilage pathology. These discussions emphasized the expanding role of imaging not only in diagnosis but also in the treatment of sports-related injuries.
On Friday, ahead of the main conference, participants engaged in an interactive workshop focused on the MR assessment of hamstring muscle injuries. This hands-on session provided clinicians with practical training in thigh muscle imaging, setting the stage for the in-depth discussions to follow.

QU celebrates first PhD graduates of its Health Sciences programme
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar University (QU) has announced the graduation of the first two students from its PhD in Health Sciences programme, marking a significant milestone for QU Health and its commitment to advancing research aligned with Qatar's national health priorities. The PhD in Health Sciences, governed by the 'Health Sector Graduate Studies Office', offers two specialised tracks: Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research and Clinical and Population Health Research. This year's achievement highlights the graduation of one student from each track, signaling the program's growing impact on national and global health research. Dr. Jazeel Abdulmajeed is the first graduate of the Clinical and Population Health Research track. His research addressed the appropriate use of effect measures in clinical research, proposing improvements that enhance the interpretation and reliability of healthcare evidence, particularly in observational studies and meta-analyses. Dr. Abdulmajeed said, 'My PhD aimed to improve the methodological foundations of clinical research to ensure that health decisions are based on accurate and meaningful evidence. I am honoured to be the first graduate of this track and proud to contribute to the advancement of research excellence at QU.' Dr. Abdulmajeed was supervised by Prof. Suhail Doi, head of the Department of Population Medicine at the College of Medicine. Prof. Doi said, 'Dr. Abdulmajeed's research offers important methodological solutions that improve how we assess and apply healthcare data in real-world settings.' In parallel with his academic work, Dr. Abdulmajeed also contributes to the Business and Health Intelligence Department at the Primary Health Care Corporation and has served in various roles at the Ministry of Public Health. On her part, Nadin Younes, the first graduate of the Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Research track, focused her doctoral work on improving disease diagnostics. Her research led to the development of rapid, cost-effective tools to detect Norovirus and Hepatitis E Virus — pathogens that pose a high risk in densely populated and resource-limited environments. 'I aimed to design accessible and affordable diagnostic tools that could support early detection and better outbreak control,' Younes explained. 'I'm thankful to my supervisor and the supportive research environment at QU Health that made this possible.' Supervised by Prof. Gheyath Nasrallah, professor of Immunology and Microbiology at the College of Health Sciences, her work resulted in the creation of a novel lateral flow assay for Norovirus, which is now undergoing regulatory review with support for potential commercialisation. A complementary test for Hepatitis E Virus is also nearing completion. 'Nadin's research addresses a pressing public health need and demonstrates the potential of applied biomedical innovation in Qatar,' said Prof. Nasrallah. Dr. Muhammad Abdul Hadi, coordinator of the Clinical and Population Health Research track, emphasised the broader importance of this achievement, 'This graduation signifies more than academic success — it reflects our programme's vision of developing researchers who are equipped to address complex health challenges. We are proud of our graduates for setting a strong precedent for future cohorts,' Abdul Hadi said. Dr. Asad Javaid, coordinator of the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Research track, also praised the significance of this achievement, saying, 'The success of our first graduate is a powerful testament to the relevance and innovation embedded in our curriculum. This programme is designed to empower researchers to translate scientific discovery into practical solutions that address real-world health challenges. Nadin's achievement is just the beginning of the impact we aim to deliver—both in Qatar and beyond.' With this milestone, QU continues to expand its role as a leader in health research and innovation, contributing to the nation's long-term goals under Qatar National Vision 2030.

Miguel's strike against Iran secures Qatar progress into the playoffs
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar kept their FIFA World Cup qualification hopes alive on Thursday as Pedro Miguel scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over the 10 men of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday to confirm his side's progress to the playoffs of the AFC Asian Qualifiers - Road to 26. The back-to-back AFC Asian Cup champions made the most of Milad Mohammadi's 35th minute sending off to secure a win against the already-qualified Iranians as Qatar moved into fourth place in Group A and advance to the playoffs, where an additional two slots to the FIFA World Cup 2026 will be at stake. Miguel netted in the 41st minute and victory in Julien Lopetegui's first game in charge takes Qatar onto 13 points from nine games and leaves the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts a point behind the United Arab Emirates with Tuesday's clash with Uzbekistan remaining. The Iranians went into the game having confirmed their progress to a seventh FIFA World Cup in March and Saeid Ezatolahi twice tested Meshaal Barsham inside the first 10 minutes, the goalkeeper dealing with both efforts as the visitors started the game on the front foot. It took Qatar time to settle and Ahmed Al Ganehi hit a rising shot over the bar in the 17th minute at the end of a fluent move that had seen Edmilson Junior find Almoez Ali in the area, allowing the AFC Asian Cup winner to lay off possession to his team mate. Two quick yellow cards in succession saw Iranian defender Mohammadi sent off, the veteran dismissed with more than 10 minutes remaining in the first half for a clumsy challenge on Edmilson Junior that saw him fly into the back of the Belgium-born winger. Roozbeh Cheshmi had a sight of goal for the Iranians midway through the half as he nodded Saman Ghoddos' cross wide of Barsham's goal in a reminder to the Qataris of the threat their visitors presented despite being a man down. But Qatar held on to take the three points to maintain their FIFA World Cup qualifying dream by handing the Iranians their first defeat of the third phase of the preliminaries.

The event, organised with the Atlantic International Business Network (AIBN) as the executive partner, aimed to advance a shared vision for healthcare innovation and strengthen Pakistan-Qatar collaboration. The conference was honoured by the presence of Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination of Pakistan, Syed Mustafa Kamal, as the chief guest from Pakistan, and Assistant Minister for Health Affairs, Ministry of Public Health, Qatar, HE Dr. Salih Al Marri, as the chief guest from Qatar. Ali Al Janahi, HMC acting assistant managing director, Dr. Abdulla Ali Al-Ansari, medical advisor to the managing director of HMC, also attended, highlighting the high-level commitment to bilateral healthcare ties. The event brought together key stakeholders from the medical, pharmaceutical, telehealth, academic, and regulatory sectors of both nations. It provided a platform for government officials, healthcare leaders, innovators, and investors to explore opportunities for cross-border partnerships and advancements in healthcare development. The program commenced with inaugural addresses by Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Javaid I. Sheikh, M.D., M.B.A., and the Executive Director of the ITQAN Clinical Simulation and Innovation Centre, Dr. Abdulla Ahmad. Their remarks underscored the transformative potential of collaborative efforts in strengthening healthcare systems between Pakistan and Qatar. Keynote presentations were delivered by Lt. Gen. Arshad Naseem HI (M), surgeon general of Pakistan, and Prof. Dr. Ambreen Afzal Ehsan, vice president of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
