To the judge's query regarding the committee, advocate general Birendra Saraf replied that "considering it affects a large body of people, we appointed a committee to go into this entire aspect". He said the panel made suggestions that in certain circumstances, immersion may be permitted. "It may not be permitted in a lake, etc, but in a bigger body like oceans or something… in certain situations with certain safeguards it can be permitted."
Saraf said that ultimately it is a process. "State govt also feels that ultimately even if we have to achieve this (ban), in some phase-wise manner it can be done... The committee's recommendations have been forwarded to the CPCB for consideration."
Senior advocate Mihir Desai with advocate Ronita Bhattacharya Bector were representing PIL petitioners, including three activists and nine clay-based artisans seeking enforcement of the ban. Desai said that unless the CPCB changes its guidelines, the ban will remain in force.
Warunjukar then urged that considering the time left for the Ganesh festival and that it takes four months for preparations, telephonic instructions should be taken from the Delhi-based CPCB. But the judges said the CPCB must examine the committee's report and file an affidavit. Warunjikar also expressed anxiety on behalf of his clients, saying that if the CPCB is going to take time to file its reply, then the HC must go ahead with a full-fledged hearing. The judges said it is not possible to hear the matter with HC closing later this week for summer vacation. They would take up the hearing immediately on the first day of HC reopening.
The CPCB's advocate also sought time to take instructions and file a reply. Therefore the judges directed the CPCB to file a reply by June 1 and posted the hearing on June 9.

Trump condemns ‘terrible shooting' of Minnesota lawmakers, calls it a targeted attack
US President Donald Trump on Saturday condemned what he described as the 'terrible shooting' of two Democratic state lawmakers in Minnesota, calling it a targeted act of violence that must not be tolerated. 'I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers,' Trump said in a statement. 'Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America.' The shooting spree, which took place Saturday morning in two towns near Minneapolis, killed former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, and left state Senator John Hoffman and his wife wounded. Authorities believe the attack was politically motivated. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz confirmed the details during a press conference, calling it 'an assassination' and urging the nation to stand against all forms of political violence. 'Those responsible for this will be held accountable,' he said. The suspect, who fled after exchanging gunfire with officers, was reportedly posing as a law enforcement officer. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Authorities say the individual used a vehicle that looked identical to a police SUV and exploited public trust in uniformed personnel. Deep-rooted conspiracy in Nagaram land transactions: ED to HC
The ongoing investigation into the alleged fraudulent sale of Bhoodan lands as private lands in Nagaram village of Maheshwaram mandal in Ranga Reddy district suggested that there was a 'deep-rooted conspiracy' and 'use of forged documents', the Enforcement Directorate (ED) said. In a counter affidavit filed before the Bench of Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy of the Telangana High Court in a writ petition seeking probe into 'Bhoodan land fraud', the ED officials said that manipulation of records maintained by officials at Tahsil, Mandal, District and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration offices resulted in alienation of government land. 'The investigation is on and there is a possibility that some more facts may emerge regarding the role of the said persons and also Government officials,' the counter affidavit by ED Hyderabad Assistant Director Gajaraj Singh Thakur stated. The ED informed the HC that they had recorded the statement of writ petitioner Birla Mallesh under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and stating that the petitioner revealed certain facts related to lands under survey no. 194 of Nagaram village. The ED officer informed the HC that the complaint of Mr. Mallesh was forwarded to the Telangana DGP under Section 66 of the PMLA on November 8, 2024. However, there was no response from the DGP office till date in the matter, the affidavit stated. No action under PMLA was initiated by the ED relating to lands under survey nos. 194 and 195 of Nagaram village, as no case was registered by any police station. Following a private complaint lodged by one Dastagir Shareef, a court referred case was registered against Khaderunnisa and others by the Maheshwaram police of the Rachakonda Commissionerate. Based on this, the ED issued an Enforcement Case Information Report pertaining to fraudulent transactions over lands in survey no. 181 and 182, the affidavit said. No ECIR was issued relating to lands under survey nos. 194 and 195. The writ petitioner Mallesh alleged that some senior IAS and IPS officers purchased lands in Nagaram villages under these survey numbers. Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy issued notices to the senior bureaucrats directing them to file their respective counter affidavits. The officers moved the division bench seeking a direction to stay the single judge's order. The division bench, however, instructed them to file their objections and responses before the single judge.
