Mr Coulson joined the trust in December 2021, having previously been general manager of Wentworth Club in London. Last year he declared the organisation had returned to financial health after repaying more than £8m in debt accumulated during the Covid lockdown and travel restrictions of 2020 and 2021.

The trust, which is due to report it latest annual results next month, generated record operating revenue of £44m in 2023 with an operating profit of £11.5m.
"Following Covid there was a big reset required and it was a strategic direction of travel, a three-year plan," Mr Coulson said. "We're now looking at a 10-year plan - what's next - and this report is coming right at the beginning of that and it's helping to form some ideas about where do we go, and what do we do?
"How do we collaborate, how do we increase the benefit we're offering? If we're going to invest, what do we invest into?
"It's things like that - we can generate surplus but we have to invest into the right things that are going to benefit the experience we deliver, the facilities we have, and other community pieces have got to benefit as well."

St Andrews Links - whose other courses include the New, Jubilee, Castle, Eden, Balgove and Strathtyrum courses - welcomes an average of 2,000 playing visitors every week.
Around 72% of those visitors come from overseas, with the USA (40%) and Canada (6%) being the key markets. A further 28% of visits were from the UK, with the remaining 26% coming from elsewhere.
All revenue generated by the Links Trust is reinvested into the sport, facilities and community initiatives across the region. For every £1 that passes through the charity's tills, an additional £3.43 is generated for other businesses in the town.

John Watson 'elated' with CBE in King's birthday honours

He said tonight that he was 'honoured and elated' to receive the CBE, noting that having been awarded the OBE 19 years ago, the latest honour to be bestowed on him 'came as a considerable surprise'.

There were supposed to be 800 homes, shops and a school off this M4 junction but there's nothing An outline planning application was submitted for the village of Pentre Felindre in 2018 - there's still nothing there The Parc Felindre site It was meant to be the ideal location - right next to the M4 with superb links east and west. Eight hundred homes were expected to be built there. But, seven years on, it's still just an empty space, albeit with its own junction off the motorway. Plans for what had been dubbed Pentre Felindre sit firmly on the drawing board with no confirmed date when anything might happen. The site, next to a business park north of the M4 near Felindre and Tircoed, was identified as one of several "strategic development areas" for growth in Swansea Council's local development plan (LDP). Never miss a Swansea story by signing up to our newsletter here The LDP, which took years to develop before being approved by the Welsh Government and adopted in February, 2019, included the Welsh Government's outline planning application for Pentre Felindre submitted in the summer of 2018. Along with 800 homes, the proposed village was set to feature a primary school, two shops, a village hall, recreational spaces, and road improvements. Additionally, 20% of the housing units were intended to be affordable. The grand plan for Pentre Felindre was to create a "vibrant and sustainable new village with a strong sense of community, where people would choose to live, work and spend their leisure time, and which would complement the plans for the adjoining strategic employment site". Article continues below The original timeline envisaged that the massive development of 800 homes would commence around 2020-21, with completion by 2028-29. However, Parc Felindre, the neighbouring employment area, has fallen short of expectations in drawing businesses despite significant marketing efforts, apart from the relocation of delivery firm DPD to the site. Issues like areas prone to flooding, a high-pressure water main, electricity pylons and proximity to noise from the M4 were noted by planning experts, yet these types of challenges are not unheard of in the process of developing housing projects on previously untouched land. In December, 2021, the Welsh Government revealed that it was actively working alongside the council to hash out a masterplan for Pentre Felindre, while also commissioning fresh reports to reassess the impediments pertaining to the site. Pentre Felindre could see enhanced transport links with the M4, and there remains a possibility for local inhabitants to access a proposed railway station on the Swansea District Line at Felindre. This prospective development was put forward in 2019 by the then Secretary of State for Wales, Alun Cairns. At that time, Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart expressed conditional support for the £20 million station scheme, insisting it must not affect High Street station's service frequency in Swansea and should come as part of extensive transport improvements throughout the vicinity. Enthusiasm is building in favour of a new train station in Felindre, along with additional proposed stations north of the county on the cargo-conveying Swansea District Line. In 2023 a Transport for Wales representative informed councillors that launching new stations on this line represented the "top unfunded" rail initiative in Wales from his perspective. This ambition is integrated into a broader vision known as the Swansea Bay and West Wales Metro, which would rely heavily on central Government financial backing. The Local Democracy Reporting Service sought an update from the Welsh Government concerning Pentre Felindre. A Welsh Government spokesman said: "Swansea Council consulted on their replacement LDP Preferred Strategy which closed 18 April this year. As part of that process this site was submitted as a candidate. "It will now be for the council to determine whether the site is/is not allocated in the Deposit LDP later this year/early 2026, setting out clear reasons to support a decision either way. We asked if there was something about this site in Felindre which was proving problematic, for example pylons/sustainable transport links? The spokesman added: "Work assessing the site's development constraints and opportunities has now completed. Taking these assessments into consideration, together with our Joint Venture partners Swansea Council, we are currently considering potential delivery models for the site, and hope to be able to make a decision on its future shortly. The spokesman said: "The availability of good public transport, including a potential Metro station, all improve the site's connectivity by different modes of transport."

The aqua blue waters and cascading waterfalls create an illusion of being somewhere far more exotic. Located just a brief walk from the A498, the Watkin Pools are a dream for Instagrammers seeking wild swimming photos without much effort. Until this week, their popularity was assumed and their use unchallenged. However, on Wednesday evening, tragedy struck when two women lost their lives in the pools. One woman was retrieved from the water, while the other was later rescued by emergency teams but sadly passed away despite resuscitation attempts. A police investigation is currently underway into the incident that has left Britain in shock and sorrow. You can read our report on the tragic event here. Mountain activities inherently carry some risk: on average, eight people lose their lives each year on Yr Wyddfa due to falls, trips and health conditions. However, fatalities involving the mountain's lakes, streams and pools are rare, reports North Wales Live. While the cause of this week's tragedy remains unconfirmed, it's important to remember that wild swimming – or even a quick dip – carries risks, particularly in icy mountain waters where rocks can be slippery and sharp. In light of this, the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK has issued a special warning to Welsh residents and visitors to remain vigilant around water this summer. Article continues below New statistics have revealed that in 2024, the drowning rate in Wales was twice the UK national average. The year saw 18 accidental drownings, with an additional 19 water-related deaths still awaiting official cause determination. Interim charity director at RLSS UK, Matt Croxall, said: "The high drowning rate reported in Wales emphasises just how important it is that families are aware of the importance of water safety and have the correct knowledge to be safe around water." A comparison of parking figures from 2021 indicated a significant 64% increase at Pont Bethania car park in Nant Gwynant, relative to the pre-pandemic year of 2019. While some visitors were hikers tackling the challenging Watkin Path to the summit, Eryri National Park officials attribute much of the rise to "trending social media posts" showcasing the picturesque Watkin Pools. At that time, a travel website hailed it as "one of the most beautiful spots in the whole of Snowdonia and maybe therefore in the whole of the UK." Since then, the praise for this location has only intensified. Guides tout the pools as a "perfect cool-down" for hikers ascending the mountain. Yet in practice many take the plunge more for the sake of soaking up the ambiance and capturing crucial snapshots than for the hike itself, then promptly retracing their steps downhill. It's considered amongst the top UK spots for inducing "Insta envy." The Watkin cascades were recently dubbed the UK's second prime "hidden waterfalls". Despite their prevalence on social media hinting they aren't quite so concealed, their popularity is understandable. Even on overcast days when they're not shimmering aqua blue, the waters retain their crystal clarity. At certain cascade points, visitors fancy themselves in "infinity pools", gazing from atop craggy ledges down to the splendid Nant Gwynant valley. Suspended from an overhead branch by a tree-lined pool, a makeshift rope swing invites adventure. Amongst two trees sits a flat rock functioning as an impromptu slide. Countless videos have been shared on TikTok, with the cascades increasingly referred to as "Snowdon's fairy pools". A traveller commented: "5-star turquoise waters – the kind of place that makes you feel like its summer on the darkest day. Crystal clear, ice cold, delicious. Children adore it." Lately, finding solitude at these pools has proven more of a challenge. Seasoned visitors suggest getting there early to dodge the throngs, as the falls become crowded post-noon. Especially on sun-filled days, it's not unusual for guests to find themselves sharing their slice of "paradise" with fellow revellers. Article continues below However, you don't need to take a dip to appreciate the waterfalls and their iconic slab bridge. Picnics in this area have grown increasingly popular, leading to noticeable wear on the surrounding ground. Over 600,000 people annually flock to Yr Wyddfa, though this week's double tragedy starkly demonstrates the risks such visits pose.
