I support Centre's steps against terror, says Congress MLA

'We are in full support of all the steps taken by the Union government to counter terror attacks in Kashmir. We do not want to play politics over such an issue,' Congress MLA Laxman Savadi said in Athani on Saturday.
'I strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir. It is an inhuman act. I think it is the right time to act against terror. There is no doubt that Pakistan is supporting such acts. The Union government has announced five measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and cancelling of visas to Pakistani nationals. I welcome these steps,' the former Deputy Chief Minister said.
'I had visited Kashmir a few months ago. It is beautiful and can help locals by becoming a tourist hotspot. But the terror attack has disturbed tourism there. Strict steps should be taken to counter it. No one should play politics over such issues,' Mr. Savadi said.

Robert Vadra Skips Enforcement Directorate Summons Again

New Delhi: Businessman Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, has once again skipped the summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the ongoing money laundering probe linked to fugitive arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari. According to sources, Mr Vadra is currently abroad to attend his daughter's graduation ceremony. He had earlier missed a summons issued on June 10 as well, citing flu-like symptoms. The agency had issued fresh summons for Tuesday, June 17, asking Mr Vadra to join the investigation in Delhi. The ED is probing alleged links between Mr Vadra and two London properties said to be acquired by Sanjay Bhandari - one at 12, Bryanston Square and another at Grosvenor Hill Court, 13 Bourdon Street. Officials claim the Bryanston Square property was renovated on Mr Vadra's directions and funded by him, and that he stayed there on multiple occasions. The properties, along with certain land parcels in India, are being investigated as alleged "proceeds of crime" under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency had filed the money laundering case in 2016. Another key figure in the case is NRI businessman CC Thampi, who was arrested in 2020. Authorities claim Mr Thampi played a significant role in facilitating property deals for Mr Vadra through a Dubai-based company. Sanjay Bhandari, a 61-year-old fugitive arms dealer, is under investigation by multiple agencies - ED, CBI, Income Tax Department, and Delhi Police - for violations ranging from foreign exchange laws to the Official Secrets Act. Indian authorities have sent two extradition requests for Mr Bhandari, both certified by then UK Home Secretary Priti Patel in 2020. Although he was arrested in the UK, his extradition was blocked earlier this year by the King's Bench Division of the UK High Court, citing potential risks of mistreatment in Indian prisons. Mr Vadra has denied any connection, directly or indirectly, and termed the charges a "political witch hunt". The businessman said he was being "hounded and harassed".

Govt will transform Telangana into skill capital of world: MoS Sridhar Babu

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary and IT Minister Sridhar Babu formally inaugurated a Mega Job & Loan Mela at PG Law College in Basheerbagh on Monday. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (Government of India) and the Department of Employment & Training (Government of Telangana). Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar Babu emphasised that the state government is committed to transforming Telangana into the skill capital of the world. He urged the Union minister to extend support for the development of the Young India Skill University. 'Our youth are Telangana's greatest strength,' the minister said. 'Yet many still lack the industry-ready skills needed in today's evolving job market. Our government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has identified the skill gap between academia and industry and is actively working to bridge it.' 'We are designing curricula in collaboration with industry leaders and domain experts. As a result, nearly 80% of students trained through our Skill University programmes have already secured employment,' he added. The minister extended a personal invitation to Jayant Chaudhary to visit the Young India Skill University and reiterated Telangana's willingness to work closely with the Centre to enhance skill development across the country.

Telangana Minister Uttam asks Centre to reject AP request for appraisal of Banakacherla

HYDERABAD: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday requested Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav not to undertake any appraisal of the Polavaram-Banakacherla project proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government and reject outright the request to grant ToR in the upcoming meeting of EAC. In a letter to the Union minister, Uttam said that the AP government submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Environment and Forest requesting terms of reference (ToR) for the Polavaram-Banakacherla link project to divert 200 tmcft of floodwaters. This proposal was included as an agenda item for the 33rd meeting of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) on river valley projects scheduled on June 17, 2025. 'In this regard, it is to state that Andhra Pradesh has no locus standi for undertaking such a link project as the proposal submitted by it is totally against the Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal, 1980. The Telangana government, in its earlier protracted correspondence to MoEF/MoJS/CWC/GRMB/PPA, has explicitly stated that AP has no right to unilaterally proceed with such a huge project which will alter the water dynamics of the River Godavari infringing on the water rights of Telangana state,' Uttam wrote to Yadav in the letter. The Ministry of Jal Shakti too on its part assured Telangana that Central Water Commission (CWC) would duly examine such a proposal in accordance with extant guidelines, existing awards, inter-state agreements and various provisions under Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, Uttam recalled. The letter also pointed out that the AP submitted the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) of the project proposal to the Project Appraisal Directorate of the Central Water Commission (CWC) on May 23, 2025. The PFR was then forwarded to KRMB, GRMB and co-basin states on June 11, for their comments, he wrote.
