Gujarat: CM stays overnight in remote, border village; interacts with villagers to encourage school enrollment
Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 28 (ANI): As part of the Shala Praveshotsav - Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has adopted a sensitive approach by staying overnight in remote and border-area villages to promote school enrollment among children.
According to an official release, during his overnight stay, the Chief Minister held traditional 'khatla baithaks' with villagers, fostering community dialogue and embracing the spirit of rural life.
During previous years' Shala Praveshotsav, Chief Minister Patel had stayed overnight in a rural area near the Madhya Pradesh border in Narmada district and in a village near the Maharashtra border in Dang district. He held interactive meetings with villagers and gathered insights about the developmental needs of these regions.
On the third day of the 2025 Shala Praveshotsav, Saturday (June 28), Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel facilitated the enrollment of children in Kuran village, located near the India-Pakistan international border in Kutch district.
Before leading the Shala Praveshotsav in Kuran, CM Patel arrived in Kutch on Friday. He stayed overnight in the village and conducted an evening dialogue session with the residents.
The Chief Minister congratulated the villagers of Kuran, located near the international border, for their cooperation during Operation Sindoor by following the instructions of the administrative authorities and the armed forces.
CM Patel highlighted to the villagers that even the most remote regions of Kutch have experienced accelerated development, driven by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He stated that the Renewable Energy Park has become a major hub for employment, and the Rann Utsav has brought economic prosperity to the rural communities of Kutch.
Chief Minister assured the villagers that the government stands firmly with them and is fully committed to addressing and fulfilling their local development needs.
On Saturday, the concluding day of the Shala Praveshotsav, the Chief Minister visited the school in Kuran village and facilitated the enrollment of 104 children, from Balvatika and Anganwadi up to standard 9.
As part of this year's Shala Praveshotsav, over 1.34 lakh children are set to be enrolled in schools across the entire Kutch district.
Chief Minister Patel also inaugurated the newly constructed primary school in Kuran, a village known as the sentinel of the border.
The Chief Minister interacted with the newly enrolled children and held a meeting with members of the School Management Committee (SMC), guiding school and village infrastructure, the quality of education, and various development-related issues.
Furthermore, he also urged parents to take an active interest in their children's education and to contribute towards building a Viksit Gujarat for a Viksit Bharat.
Turning the Shala Praveshotsav into a celebration of development, the Chief Minister gifted development projects worth Rs 107.60 crore to the Kutch district.
On the occasion, MLAs, office bearers, senior district officials, villagers, children, and their parents were present. (ANI)

Majithia taken to Mashobra by Vigilance to ascertain links with properties in Himachal
A Punjab Vigilance team Monday took senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia to Mashobra, near Shimla, in Himachal Pradesh to verify certain properties owned by the Majithia family. In an early morning development, Majithia was taken to Himachal Pradesh in a convoy of Vigilance Bureau vehicles and the team returned to Punjab after conducting a day-long visit to the properties in Mashobra. Vigilance sources said that the visit was in connection with the disproportionate assets case registered against Majithia and to ascertain the means through which these properties were acquired. The election affidavit submitted by Majithia during 2022 Assembly polls in Punjab includes two properties in Mashobra by his wife Ganieve Kaur. Majithia had unsuccessfully contested the February 2022 poll from Amritsar North as a SAD candidate. The election affidavit mentions two houses owned by Ganieve Kaur in village Mohal, Purani Kotli, Shimla district worth Rs 1.20 crore as in October 2021. Meanwhile, Maninder Singh Aulakh, alias Bittu Aulakh, and Jagjit Singh Chahal, who had earlier faced cases pertaining to the NDPS Act and were later acquitted, Monday appeared before the Vigilance Bureau and recorded their statements. Speaking to the media after meeting the vigilance officials, both Aulakh and Chahal said that they have high hopes that the present case against Majithia would reach a positive conclusion because of the 'sincerity of the government' and the attitude of the vigilance officials. 'Whatever questions we were asked, we have answered to the best of our knowledge. This is a DA case, we gave answers as per information available with us. They wanted to know if there were any financial transactions with us or had some benami property. We have given information. Main issue is of drugs and we have told them that when in 2013 when this issue first arose, then had the police done proper investigation at the time, things would have been different,' said Aulakh. He added that the duo had demanded a CBI inquiry at the time. 'A corrupt police officer involved in the case should be interrogated. These people destroyed Punjab. My mother and Chahal's parents died because of the trauma of drug charges against us. We were eventually acquitted after spending six and a half years in jail. We still say you can shoot us in the middle of a chowk if we have ever done drug trade. We have given statement about that corrupt police officer to vigilance today. It should be investigated how he acquired gas stations and subway outlets in USA,' said Aulakh. Chahal said they have hopes that the present vigilance case will reach some logical conclusion and that till now whatever happened was mere drama. 'There have been many SITs formed to date and all have called us many times but nothing happened. Only politics took place and now we feel that it will reach fruition due to government's sincerity,' he said.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh (ANI) NEW DELHI: In the midst of Operation Sindoor, the defence acquisition council (DAC) headed by defence minister Rajnath Singh is set to convene this week to consider a sweeping set of military modernisation proposals worth over Rs 1 lakh crore. According to defence sources cited by ANI, the high-stakes meeting, scheduled for later this week, will include approvals for a wide range of acquisitions aimed at strengthening India's air, naval, and ground defence capabilities. This will be the first DAC meeting since India launched Operation Sindoor, its recent counter-terror and cross-border surveillance campaign. Big push for air defence Among the top proposals is the clearance of the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) system developed by DRDO. The Rs 30,000 crore project is intended to significantly bolster the Indian Army's air defence capability, offering interception capability against aerial threats up to 30 km away.
